SWAC should do a feasibility study into moving to FBS

We should attempt our save our products (schools ) before they meet failure face to face. This may mean removing some schools and bringing on others. To continue doing what we are now. Not working. All HBCU's are loosing fan base, they are not attracting younger fans. I think we need too be proactive, not think about it, but step outside the box. Most critics will say it won't work , well if you never try ???

Delaware St. and Alabama St. heavily subsidize their athletic departments (Robbing Peter to Pay Paul). Either their students are footing the bill (high SAF) or the school is footing the bill. The athletic budget is way too high to justify for the enrollment numbers.

This is true, because some folks like posting numbers, but clearly don't understand how to read them or how the numbers were derived.

Instead of moving up to FBS as a conference in one shot, what about certain schools out of the SWAC and MEAC form their own FCS conference with the hopes of investing enough to eventually go to FBS?

I saw plenty of young folks at the Bayou classic and SWAC championships.

HAno.

any that a problem with living in the shadows of SEC. folks tries to do too much. we're not even FCS competitive, as a conference. chill due. (good thing you didn't post this mess any where else).

Right...UAB has millions of dollars as a medical university and their program still shut down. University of Hawaii is next...U will see a lot of middle tier programs shut it down real soon in the FBS race simply because they can't compete...Not to mention their are power 5 schools like Texas who are prepared to pay athletes starting next season....SWAC schools have a lot bigger issues than football we need to figure how to FINANCIALLY stay afloat because it seems that these TV game have done nothing for our pockets at our Universities...we need to get priorities and things in order...University Sports will be a privilege not a right real soon especially football...:yup:

Using only the championship game as a basis... not sure if serious. What school in the SWAC is ready to double their budget right now? You'll have to get the students to approve the fees first off.

I doubt any of our schools are ready to double their budgets, even if the student body is willing to double their fees for athletics.

As much as GR talks about it, it's true. Our schools and conferences have to make some long, hard decisions whether to stay in Division I or move down. Who knows what will happen? Some of the stronger HBCUs will leave the SWAC and MEAC and form their own FCS league to monopolize on football classics to get some TV money? Some schools will leave one conference and go to another? Some schools decide to move down?

All they had to do was to look at the data from this link on USA Today http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/spor...ollege-athletics-finances-database/54955804/1

The link below is a more complete and updated data set from 2005 to 2013. If you use the dropdown menus, you'll see exactly how monies were generated and spent. As tierre has already stated, some programs are heavily subsidized with School Funds and Student Fees.

I move that jsu stop always following and take the lead on this endeavor. Would jsu be the only d-2 program with a dome potentially?

There's nothing wrong with a D-2 football program playing in a 50k or a 35k or a 20k or a 10k domed stadium.

Granted a couple of schools may have to stay FCS, but do any of you think that the extra scholarships along with some possible bowl money wouldn't be enough, along with the right leadership?

I mean look at the Sunbelt and C-usa, they're basically a PWC version of the SWAC except the don't have the marketing value we do.

To help you out Uncle Rukus best friend is Robert Freeman who is a black man. He does associate with black people, however he thinks the YT mans ice is colder, and at every possible opportunity is throwing a black person under the bus.

Third: What I did ream your po narrow ass about. Was you bragging all the time about how superior the ovc is to the SWAC, but than turn around and accept welfare from the ovc, by allowing TNSU to play far more ooc games than normal with hbcu's, without penalizing them for not playing the normal conference schedule, so TNSU could make their budget.

What conference does that kind of shit? Let your dumbass tell it, it would be the poor segregated SWAC.

Next if you're going to try an insult somebody, at least know what the fvck you're talking about.

¿Welfare? WTF

Why is it so hard for you to understand TnSU has a good situation, just like SU and GSU have a good situation. If we want to play 4 out of conference games to make more money we can. True it only benefits us. Same as the BC only benefits SU and GSU. However, I think from a competitive standpoint the date of the BC hurts the SWAC, were TnSU playing one less conference games does not hurt the OVC.

To keep it simple, let’s focus on the last 10 years. From a competitive standpoint the OVC has been superior over the SWAC. I don’t see how you can make an argument to prove me wrong. Especially when I have several examples of TnSU beating the shat out of JSU, then JSU going to the SCG and we struggle in the OVC. In 2012 TnSU finished 5th in the OVC, yet beat the SWAC East and West champs by a combined score of 78-32. Neither game was close. I have always said because of Geographical location and greater competition I want TnSU to stay in the OVC.

On topic.
In your opinion is there a difference between Jacksonville State and Troy? Georgia Southern and Eastern Ky? Idaho and Easten Ill?

We would lose more money. We would have to pay for 20 more football players. Then you have to add to cost to add more programs to meet the minimum requirement to be considered FBS. Per wikipedia the payout for the New Orleans Bowl is 500k per team. I don't believe 500k is enough to cover adding more varsity sports that don't make money,20 additional football scholarships, and travel to and from the bowl game. Also the school will be on the hook for selling a certain amount of tickets. You know how we like to buy at the gate. When i went to see TnSU vs Bama state, i was like thank god i have my ticket. It's going to be halftime before people get in the game trying to buy a ticket.

You seem misguided. Even a good PWC FCS conference wouldn't be a good comparison here. Most of those schools have much larger student bodies to draw funds from. They also have a larger pool to draw talent from. You may want to look at the amount of subsidy those schools draw from student fees. You'd have to charge your students damn near another tuition in just fees to fund it without your whole athletics program going broke. And unlike classics, YOU have to pay for those tickets you don't sell to bowl games.

I guess Tenn. State does love playing in the OVC, even if it means generating very little in attendance and revenue.

SWAC 10 public schools Accumulative Ticket Revenue Sales from 2005 to 2013: $61,028,830

OVC 11 public schools Accumulative Ticket Revenue Sales from 2005 to 2013: $30,525,915

From my observation, the SWAC 10 public schools out generates the OVC 11 public schools by more than twice as much in ticket revenue sales.

True but there are some with enrollment numbers similar to the SWAC. ULM has 8,600. Ark. State 13K, Ark. Little Rock 13k
