College Football Playoff Rankings
What sense does it make to release these rankings in late October and then every week until the end of the season? Why not just wait until the end and release only the four teams in the playoffs. It's seems like they do this only to help the sports talk shows fill their programs.

Seems like politics is creeping into the poll with Ohio State suddenly rising from number 16 to number five in only two weeks. Looking at TCU and Baylor's overall record against ranked teams, both have played at least three ranked teams while Ohio State has only played one ALL year. LOL!!
Some of their sorry opponents by the way are Navy, Va Tech (lost), Kent State, Cincinnati, Rutgers, Maryland, Penn State, Illinois, Minnesota (whom TCU beat by three TD's and Ohio State won by one TD). Their next two opponents are Indiana and Michigan.
This team doesn't deserve in no form or fashion to be ahead of Baylor or TCU.

When you examine TCU's schedule, you will realize that they only beat 1 quality team (Kansas State). Oklahoma is mediocre this year, and Oklahoma State and West Virginia have fallen off since they played them. Minnesota was a good OOC opponent for them. Same thing with Baylor, their only quality win is TCU. They played NO ONE in their OOC(SMU, Northwestern State, and Buffalo). Ohio State isn't being punished for their loss early in the season. The panel recognizes that they played that game with adverse conditions(young OL and QB) and realize the improvement the team has made through the course of the season.

How many ranked teams has OSU played? What's their overall body of work? What's their strength of schedule ranking? The Big Ten is worse than the Big 12. All the numbers go against OSU. OSU's strength of schedule record is terrible as is their in-conference schedule.

No way FSU should not be #1. Whether they struggle or not, they have beat ranked and unranked teams. Last year, they had some struggles too vs unranked opponents!

Ohio State should not even be in the top 10. The only ranked team they played is MSu and beat them but if TCU is being punished for a bad WIN against Kansas (as well as FSU being punished for struggling with mediocre ACC teams) then OSU should be punished for a BAD loss to a middle of the pack ACC team
I think you have to take in account that Ohio State was playing that game with a freshman backup QB making his first college start.
Since that loss happened the second week of the regular season, Ohio State had been able to benefit from the combination of improving each week (beating then No. 8 Michigan State on the road and No.25 Minnesota on the road) and having teams ahead of them lose or play poorly recently has helped their ranking.
Ohio State gets a lot backlash because of what happened to them in BCS championship games over the last decade along with the Big Ten being mediocre. But right now, it's hard to make an argument for who should be ahead of them at the moment.

No it's not. Minnesota got blasted by TCU and Ohio State struggled to beat them by one TD. Other than that, they've only beaten one ranked team. Minnesota hasn't beaten anybody to be ranked any how.
Looking at OSU's overall body of work, it's simply not better than TCU or Baylor.
There are a lot of Big Ten politics going on by those voters who are trying to do everything they can to get them in the final four.
Even a weakened LSU beat Wisconsin, the second or third best team in the Big Ten.
Overall, the Big Ten is not better than the Big 12.
As far as a backlash, every team has injuries and have to replace players so that shouldn't even be an issue. The entire body of work should be the most that matters.
That was a good call.
Ohio State actually had a three-score lead in the 4th quarter before Minnesota added some obligatory points in garbage time. So, I wouldn't say the Buckeyes struggled. Shoot, they were about to go up 21-0 in that game if a ball carrier had not fumbled on the 1 yard line.
If you say Ohio State struggled with Minnesota, I could say Bama struggled with an LSU team (who they should have lost to) that couldn't score against Arkansas, who had a 17-SEC losing streak.
Florida State's struggles are well documented.
You could argue that Mississippi State failed its first real test in losing to Bama. Prior to that, they struggled against lesser opponents.
And outside of TCU, Baylor and Kansas State, the rest of B12 is just as bad as the rest of the B1G after you get by Ohio State, Michigan State and Wisconsin.
The only school that really doesn't have a major demerit against them is Oregon. They've beaten Michigan State, UCLA and Utah as far as ranked school go. They lost at home to Arizona, but the Wildcats are a solid football team in a really good Pac-12 South.
If you closely examine the schedules of all the top teams, you'll find flaws. No team ranked in the top 10 is all that great. They're just not.

You're citing one game, I'm citing the entire season. Minnesota is flat out garbage. Ohio State's only challenge has been to Michigan State. They've played ten games and only had to get up for ONE game.
Miss. State, TCU, Baylor have played much tougher schedules. If you're telling me that Ohio State should be favored over TCU or Baylor, then you're saying the Big 10 is tougher than the Big 12. Now we all know that's not true.
And Mississippi State has played far better competition than Ohio State wouldn't you agree?
You're just gonna keep arguing against yourself about the Big Ten versus the Big 12 when nobody is even debating that.
