Rumors Earl Holmes Out at FAMU

3:30 p.m. Update

Florida A&M football players, led by senior quarterback Damien Fleming, are inside Athletic Director Kellen Winslow's office.

This impromptu Tuesday meeting concerns the speculation surrounding coach Earl Holmes' future.

FAMU president Elmira Mangum said she has not signed a letter terminating Holmes yet.

Holmes, in his third season with a 6-16 record, is not available for comment.

Holmes and Rattlers (2-6) meet Norfolk State in Saturday's homecoming game.

The players marched from the field house to Winslow's office and demanded to see the athletic director. Winslow met them outside and asked them to disperse.

"Don't y'all have a book to read?" Winslow asked when trying to get the players to leave.

He then agreed to meet with only senior players and asked media to leave his office.

Practice starts at 3:30.

Holmes, considered one of the program's top players of all-time, starred at linebacker for the Rattlers from 1992-95.

He finished his areer with 509 total tackles, 309 solo tackles and 200 assisted tackles – all Rattler career records. Holmes also played 10 seasons in the NFL.

They almost fired him earlier this year. Not looking good for him I don't believe.

I don't think his comment would've made the situation better. I hope they don't boycott

I guess he is trying to do what Doug did at Grambling, but does FAMU have issues with other things, such as moldy weight room and an insufficient amount of muscle milk?

Starting QB, Damien Fleming the Tallahassee Democrat that the team will not boycott the Homecoming game on Saturday

Rattler nation is split right...lowest we've every been...WORSE than the failed I-A move

You see what Grambling has started. Now every time these scrub azz players have an issue, they want to march, ask questions, and talk about boycotting. Gram has set HBCUs back 10 years.

when you bring in people where we all know that they want their own guy creates tension....Winslow is a football person so even a blind man knows he will want to deal with football ASAP

This has happened many times at colleges.

Man I just saw a quick clip of Holmes leaving the field house for the final time...that was actually kind of sad...all he could say was "No comment"

I think Barlow would be a good fit at FAMU. He still has connections out that way. Make it happen FAMU!

I was wondering where you were after the jsu beat down, but this explains it .

Winslow is poison for hbcu football program.. He made several bonehead moves during his time at Central State by hiring E.J Junior as head football coach..

FAMU go hire a real coach with coaching experience outside BCF, it's working at Grambling, and after y'all hire him, let's work out a Grambling vs FAMU series
