Charles Barkley's comments about "uneducated Blacks" sparks debate


Charles Barkley is probably the most unintelligent sounding Black person on television, but in this case he's absolutely right.

One thing that I respect about Charles Barkley is his willingness to tell the truth as he sees it.

No he isn't. Only blacks with low self esteem base our race on thugs. Thugs have been around since Jesus Christ days. You folks need to get over yourselves. Folks will always steal, kill, rob, have babies out of wedlock. They did this in the bible. You still follow the bible correct?

Y'all are lucky that I actually have things to do because I could spend a lot of time talking about certain Black people trying to make other Black people feel that they aren't "Black enough". And the silly shit people do because they think that's what "real" Black people do.

CEE, we all know that those kinds of folk have always been around, the difference is now that "those kinds of folk" seem to have been elevated in our society, and in some cases, are given a higher status than the folks who don't do those types of things.
 
Charles Barkley is an idiot. 1) He spoke in absolute terms that blacks as a whole will NEVER be successful which is a flawed premise to begin with. Are whites "as a whole" successful? Absolutely NOT. 2) He spoke about blacks inherently typecasting successful black people which is a LIE. Did any of you realize in the last presidential election on a percentage basis blacks came out to vote more than white people? That is merely an example of a microcosm of a flawed ideology from Old Time Alabama Barkley. 3) Though we have a problem with a minority of blacks that believe in this "speaking white, street cred" melarky, it is not the majority of blacks and this buffoon chose to typecast the majority of our race. Normally many kids outgrow that stupidity also. One has to be borderline stupid to endorse the philosophizing of Old Time Alabama Barkley. :lol: :emlaugh:

Almost all of us in here are black...we all received degrees or at least attended college. Do we or the millions of other "educated" African Americans look down upon other "educated" black people?

Barkley painted us using a really broad brush

How many times have we seen that other Black person that will not help the next Black person because so many think their is only one seat for a Black person at the table (corporate America).

I can't tell you how many times my own family has dogged me out because I wouldn't loan money, pay their bill, or let them have little Ta'Quan's birthday party at my house. I think this is what Barkely is talking about. Now aint no way in hell many of you can say at no point in time in life you were ever shunned for doing the right things with your education, money, ect. If you can say that has never happened to you, your path in life has been different from mine and many other Black people I know.

He's very much an idiot. Anytime a person generalizes they are bound to be dead wrong. There are just too many exceptions to whole heartedly by into what he's saying.

People who listen to others point of view with a closed mind just watching the other persons mouth move until it stops so they can make their own point are usually the same as the person they are calling wrong just in the opposite direction.

Black people are a lot of what's wrong with Black people. Those who his comments do not apply to usually are not offended by them.

No one generalization applies to any group racial/gender/age ect their will always be exceptions. That's why things are put to a vote in many cases.

The problem with this is that he just gave confirmation to those who already hold the belief that black people in general are unintelligent, lazy and uneducated. That is so dangerous because a lot of people (namely white) can't or refuse to separate those who are as Barkley described to those who aren't.

Just gave white supremacy an allowance pass Go and collect $300.
 
Okay educated black people. Let's talk education. We all got degrees and a education around here. Ninety percent of us took psychology did we not? In psychology we studied that over 50% of all people in the human race has low self esteem. The number one source sited for that low self esteem is the way we look. Now lets take this further, in a African American study done at Princeton, it was sited that 70% of African Americans have an identity problem with who they are. Any time a person has to judge themselves based on what someone they consider beneath them is, is that not a self esteem issue? Let's really look at education here. Many blacks who attend PWC's such as Yale, Princeton, LSU, UA, and the list goes on think that blacks who attend HBCU's have a inferior education to them. These same blacks will not hire you in the work place. Is that not the same thing as saying Pookie and Ray glorifying a life style? The truth is more blacks are graduating high school than ever. More blacks are graduating college and enrolled in college. More blacks are business owners and live better then ever before. Now on the other hand the white race is falling behind more and more each year, but the slave master mentality of low self esteem makes you feel better to down grade who you are. The difference is I don't talk nikker shyt to make yall feel better. I talk reality. I gr up in the gutter. I have been around gangsters all my life. Not one time have they ever influenced me to sell dope, kill, rob or steal. Now they did influence low self esteem people. Maybe that is many of yall. I have seen more followers in college than I ever did in the hood.

I agree with Charles - that "uneducated" blacks in American society are "brainwashed" to put street cred ahead of success. "For some reason we are brainwashed to think, if you're not a thug or an idiot, you're not black enough," Barkley said. "If you go to school, make good grades, speak intelligent, and don't break the law, you're not a good black person. It's a dirty, dark secret in the black community."
