I went to two that ASU played in. Both were doubleheaders. We jump started our undefeated season Labor Day Wknd by whooping JSU in Atl, after a Clark/MoB game. :lol: That was a huge wknd. Both ASU and Jsu had huge followings. (When SU used to play here in the early 90s, they had a big following too)
One year we played Gram at FulCo Stadium after Albany/MoB.

ASU aint played in Atl since. :(

Dude, you will be amazed at how dumb BCF/HBCU fans are. Grambling has arguably the biggest name in the HBCU game.. they won't know any better and won't care to find out. It's GRAMBLING!

I agree.. nationwide and even worldwide.... but these are areas who dont have HBCU bands to look at on the regular... in an area like Atlanta (where high stepping marching bands are known) Grambling aint going to be popular. If it was Cali, Las Vegas, New York, Philly, Chicago, etc... I would agree.... but Atlanta????? NA.

I remember that.

in 91, Tn State played FAMU in Fulton County Stadium and SU played SC State that night at Yech err Tech's stadium. The Saints and the Falcons played the next day as the Jukebox was doing that game as well.

The ATL was off the chain that weekend. That Showdown weekend as I remember it. This is when the ATL was still Dirty South off the chain ATL and not all of the phoney folks who moved to Atlanta.

I remember playing FAMU in Atlanta back in the early to mid 90s. Always a good crowd.

Phony is correct . Meaning ATL had a different charm in the early 90s. Most of the locals like Cee and MH know what I mean. As the economy grew you start getting the NYC, Detroit etc folks moving there later in the 90s and 2000s. But as it was growing. The ATL still had it's down home GA flavor. Before the Housewives of ATL fame. LOL. Now it is Black Hollyhood. I loved the FreakNick ATL. 90s ATL was the best.

So basically all the folks who moved to the ATL who knew nothing about how we do it down South. Just came to Atlanta trying to escape the North or East Coast. Been some articles on how Atlanta has changed over the years.

JR it's not many times I'll tell you this but you don't know what you're talking about. Sure there are a bunch of pretentious people (like Houston too) but to typecast 4.5 million people is one of the most stupid things I've heard come out of your mouth. That sounds like some mess Tigerpride would say. :lol: :emlaugh:

THE BLACK SCENE WAS DIFFERENT IN THE 90s than NOW. The ATL was a different VIBE then than now. What is so hard to understand about that. Been many articles about that. FreakNik and Pre 96 Olympic ATL was different. Folks had not made the migration to Atlanta in droves just yet. The atmosphere in Atlanta was different. Me and my Frat bruh who is a Morehouse alum and lived in Atlanta and brother still lives there have all said the same thing. You have native ATL folks who want them uppity Northern and East Coast folks to go back home. LOL. It changed Jrock. I don't know when you got there. But the ATL of the 90s is not the same vibe it is now. You act like I insulted you or something on this one. Magazines have even said Atlanta lost some of their Southern Charm due to a lot of the Northerners and others from the East coast moving in. Nothing new about that. Hell that has happened to a lot of cities. 90s ATL > than 2014 ATL as far as the Black folks being down with a lot of our events. Even the Outkast guys made a comment on how the city has changed.

Atlanta is not the same Welcome to Atlanta where the players play ATL. I remember even hearing Deion Sanders saying the ATL is different now. Not saying Atlanta is some bad place. But it is not the same. Yall done let them NeNe Leakes type of folks take over that city. Where is Frank Ski, Luda, JD, Keith Sweat when you need them. LOL.

4.5 million folks in Atlanta todau ain't the same 2.5 -3 plus million that were there in the 90s. Even Buckhead ain't the same. Where is PSI Snake and my other bruhs who are native ATLiens. LOL. I am surprised you didn't know where I was going with this. TP and Cee got what I was saying.

Houston of today ain't the same of the Houston of 90s either if that makes it better. Austin Tx was redneck city in the 90s. It ain't like that now.

I'm defending it because I take issue with your "phony" contention. I don't need to google a clip for an endorsement. What you and a lot of other clowns (not calling you a clown) have the proclivity to do is try to typecast this city based on a minority behavior.

Dude please. Say what you wanna. Gram band does not excite us in the Atl. I marched in Atl bands. I know the majority of all Atl band directors. Sorry but it is what it is. Its not a knock, its just the area.

I will guarantee you that AAMU has 4 times more students from ATL than Grambling does. I will then tell you (with you being a band director) that AAMU bands sounds 10 times better than Grambling does NOW.

Hey frat, I'm on yo side mane. I think the Grambling name, football brand and band brand will interest some folks in the ATL. I think BCU will be the issue. I think you all vs Howard would be a better match-up simply for name recognition. Only band heads will know about BCUs band. They are one of my favorites but when I mention their band to most people, they have never seen the band and barely heard of the school.
