Hmmm.

An OC who has never even been a position coach and has never called plays. A HC who has never won as a head coach on any level.

It all depends. Auburn's current OC went from GA at some school to OC at Samford and did a great job. Looking at all 3 games (not just TnSt like most of you), you will see that the offense along with the QB is a work in progress. Too conservative for my taste but I expect us to get better.

Gus Malzahn is really the OC at Auburn.
 
I can't wait until when they start putting Deacon Jackson's name in asterisk like they do Bell. I guess it would be j*****n State University.

most do not understand, when hiring a HC; OC; DC or any coach, it like a rolling dice, you may win or you may loose. For example, when TSU hired Davis, he won at his level, but could not win in the OVC. Look at Webster, he came to TSU, suppose to be a good coach, but could not win. Now we have Mike J, considering all the coaching / playing experience he have, his play calling is questionable at times...

Chang, may not be the problem. It may the HC or the players... You know some players only respond to Mr. Charlie...

You guys are just coming off your own Bell era and you're on here talking about us lol. Jackson just lost his frst game and you're already putting him with Bell? Silliness.

Malzahn is really calling the plays. He has a number of plays that he wants called during the game and tells the OC to call them. The OC mainly just decides when to call them

Don't tell him anything, TP. Let him stay on the outside and guess. It won't be nothing new to him, just like when he write his columns.
 



The team is trash and the coaches are trash. IMO, TSU was the measuring stick for me, not grambling, alcorn,Valley,southern or any other swac school.

You have the wrong measuring stick at this point. TNState is one of the best teams in the COUNTRY... a top 20 team. We fired a staff that only had us ranked in the top 25 like twice in 8 years so it won't happen overnight. No one expected us to go 12-0 this year. If we have to lose to a team, let it be the best one on the schedule. TNState is their 4th or 5th season under Rod Reed. Those boys know the system and have been groomed thru it. Offenses are the hardest thing to install. Even when we had John Shannon as OC, EVERY TIME we changed QBs, we struggled in the first 2-3 games. Recall when we lost Asberry and went to Grailyn Pratt, we lost to D2 AAMU and then lost to FAMU. When we changed from Grailyn Pratt to Mark Washington, we started out 0-3. When we went from Mark Washington to TC Taylor/Robert Kent, the first few games were not pretty. Even recently when we went from Therriault to Moore, started out 1-3 I believe but we still made it to Bham.

We have the right coaches and the right athletes. It will only get better... THIS year. We will soon be on the level of TNState but you can't get there in 2 games.

Funny how things change after a week has past.
 
Though he's a junior in the classroom and a sophomore on the roster, Jackson State quarterback LaMontiez Ivy is really a freshman on the field, his coach said.

It's something Harold Jackson has emphasized the last few weeks. But it didn't hurt to say it again, especially after the beating Ivy took in Saturday's 35-7 loss.

"He was kind of going through the motions a lot because we had guys running open, but he never saw them, and we just got to make sure we take the load off him, because Ivy is just a freshman, to tell you the truth," Jackson said in Monday's press conference.

He noted that Ivy missed last season with an injury, and when the new coaching staff came in earlier this year, Ivy spent most of his time rehabbing.

But as much as the offensive woes seemed to rest on Ivy's shoulders — he threw two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown — Jackson added that the front-line protection was weak and didn't help Ivy.

Glad we have a coach that can understand things and work on what needs to be worked on and not just "go back to the basics". I got so frustrated for "going back to the basics" over the last few years.
 
This is the part that made me smile:


"I can understand quarterbacks," Jackson said. "They get to the point where they ... ain't looking down the field. They start looking at that line and see where the (defensive) guy is coming from."

"I'd like to get our offense on the right track, really get them executing the way they're supposed to execute. I want to get our running game going so that we can make sure we keep the defense off the field."
