JSU Offense

Real talk I've never seen JSU offense so out of sink. Not even during the James Bell era. This guy from Hawaii yal got isn't the answer. As long as I have known, JSU has always had power running and a decent passing game. This new offensive coordinator told his fullback, Capler, that if he wants to play, he better learn the TE position cause that's the only way he will play. He doesn't use a fullback. These are facts, not hear say. Hate to say it, but this may be worse than the Bell era!

Rome wasn't built in a day. Jackson and his staff will have to recruit players that fit the system. Now some folks may say, "Well, the previous coach left enough talent to win with" etc. That was the old way. The new way incorporates a skill position player's physique as well. Remember in old days, physique was pretty much limited to lineman with a few exceptions at skill positions (Just catch the ball). Now all position physiques are considered. Do I want tall, possession receivers or quick X-Factor receivers. Do I want a tall, sturdy 230-250 pd QB who can stand in the pocket all day and throw or do I want a smaller , athletic QB who can scramble and make plays? These are factors present in today's brand of football. Makes your head hurt, doesn't it? :lol:

Well, I never thought you give a GA a coordinator job no matter if he coached at Oregon. Chang could have not gotten a OC job no where else in FCS and maybe not even D2 with no experience at least as a Position Coach. Not as a GA. Even Urban Meyer had to go be a position coach after he left Ohio State as a Grad Assistant Offensive coach.

So yeah dude has to learn on the fly and he is also used to teaching FBS level players at that even in his limited coaching experience. I am sure there are some D2 assistant coaches that are worthy of OC and DC jobs on our level.

The other piece of it is like BH123 said. Chang and the rest of the JSU staff will need time to get players in that fit the system they want to run.

In the SWAC with our LinePlay we need mobile QB's period.

Gotta give it time man. can't look at just one game and determine if it's a good or bad fit.

We didn't really use a FB during the Kent era either.... We used TEs just like we are using now. Shannon used FBs.. Asberry didn't. Tanaka Counselor still ran all over Alcorn.

So whats your point?

You know how it is for SWAC fans or fans in general. They want results immediately. It is always what have you done for me lately.

Chang was the right move. The Old Man knew what he wanted and he went and got it. We have the talent to run what we have. If anything, we don't have the defensive players to run our defense BUT they are holding the team together. The offense looked BAD but they are acting like they haven't seen this before. This offense ran/passed all over FAMU ... we just couldn't score. We had one decent week and one bad week. .. a decent week will win for us until we figure out a few more things.

Trust me, if Chang is not the answer (which he is), he will get run out of Jackson. More than ANYONE else, The Old Man wants a SWAC title.

We will finish September at 4-1. I am not like the others. I complained and complained and complained about the UVL game. People kept saying the players needed the reps.. i was like BULLSCHITT. We NEED games like the azz whoopin we just took. When we played FAMU, we LEARNED that we need to work on our redzone offense. When we played TNState, we LEARNED that we need to work on/adjust our blocking. Ask anybody what we LEARNED from UVL and you will hear crickets. With the talent that we have, we can turn this around...and we will!

Grambling.. is on the clock!

Well I've always known JSU to run POWER, especially in the red zone. It was a given. In the Kent ear, yal did have split backs in the spread.

in 2004 PV had a guy from San Jose State serve as a GA the year before be the team's OC....now he's coaching in the NFL...it depends on how good the guy is

Exactly... Chang is certainly a diamond in the rough. We took a chance and we will certainly benefit from it.

Not really. Offenses evolved over time but Chang isn't reinventing the wheel with the current system. If you saw the FAMU game(its online) you'd see that we ran the ball well. TnSt just took it to us.

It all depends. Auburn's current OC went from GA at some school to OC at Samford and did a great job. Looking at all 3 games (not just TnSt like most of you), you will see that the offense along with the QB is a work in progress. Too conservative for my taste but I expect us to get better.
