8/7/2014 1:40:00 PM*

HOUSTON- Texas Southern Tigers head football coach Darrell Asberry is close to reaching another milestone as it relates to the academic progress of his program. Now entering his third year at the helm of the program Asberry has helped elevate the Tigers academically inside the classroom as TSU now ranks third of all HBCU's as it relates to APR average for the past two years with a score of 960.

With next years' projected scores Asberry is poised to take the lead as it relates to three year APR score averages among**all HBCU Division I football programs. TSU is now sanction free in regards to APR and now with a clean slate academically the Tigers are set to become one of the leaders nationally in APR scores for Division I HBCU's.

 Great news. I read a lot of comments concerning APR and it's crazy how many think it's simply going to class. There is more to it. What hurts HBCU's and makes the APR low is retention. People not remaining at the university, either transferring, dropping out for several reasons, etc. Glad to see TXSU has found out how to fix the problem.

Congrats TxSU

sincerely,

AAMU Football bka "APR Kings of the SWAC" :)

This is a great point. AAMU was good.. well average.. before APR. Not trying to throw any shade, but if you can't have good APR and win...like another SWAC school, I don't call it a success. A lot of schools with good APR have good APR simply because they recruit bad athletes with good grades. It takes only a mildly intelligent person to look at the programs and see that correlation. Even if you look at the last few schools who won the SWAC, they all had bad APR when they won or right after they won. (TxSo, PV, Grambling, SU). That's somewhere between cheating and selling your soul to win. When you all can win AND have good APR, that will be a great day in the SWAC.

TYPICAL BS ^^^^^^^^^^^^^. That's like someone saying JSU hasn't won a Football Championship since the APR was really spotlighted. Some of you hate like women, sad.

Well JSU has only won one championship on APR and off APR. I guess it just shows how average JSU is...........

Hate to be the one to tell you but the only football championship that jsu won in 2007 you cheaters were put on public notice by the NCAA. Does your theory explain or is an excuse for not winning the championship 16 out of the last 17 years? Scholarships were taken from jsu "right after they won." Good job on "selling your soul" to win that 1 championship in 17 years, yes? Ahhh nevermind  :emlaugh:
