Most Heated HBCU Football Rivalry(s)

The most egregious scoreboard incident IMHO was in Montgomery Crampton Bowl. Man those nut were flipping minutes on S.U. Folks in the stands were pointing at the scoreboard. :emlaugh: I knew it was going to be trouble when folks started filling the endzone seats. You could just feel the intensity in the stadium. I think it was 2004. That backfired on them though......Southern came from behind and broke their hearts.

Yep. Ricks to Emile Bryant. FTW!

Yeah, Mumford used be a wild sometimes. I remember as a freshman going to my very first pep rally as a student at S.U. Some fool pulled out a gun and the stampeed was on. I hopped the fence to get out of the crowds way on the football field and hurt my ankle a tad. :emlaugh: A lot of the disturbances came from people that weren't students but rather outsiders from BR and Scotlandville....

LMAO...

Yesterday I had a recent JSU baseball signee in my home. I told him about the budding rivalry between JSU and Bama State. He said he followed the baseball rivalry. I told him the rivalry was in all sports. kudos to JSU for getting a fine young man in Michael Peterson. I will follow him thru his college career.

You guys are no rival.

For MOI:

Pre 90's

1). SU vs FAMU
2). SU vs GSU
3). SU vs JSU

Post 90's

1. SU vs JSU
2. SU vs GSU
3. SU vs FAMU

Yes, I would agree that it has changed a bit over the years. Pre 90's though, I would say S.U./Gsu. I remember at one time Gsu had a long winning streak on us and we hated them for it. They would rub it in real bad too. You would have to put up with it the entire year. I remember one time at a game the preacher praying for an S.U. win. :emlaugh: I remember going home for the holidays and it was ALWAYS some serious smack talking........Way before TSPN was around.

As a child, I remember seeing these bumper stickers that S.U. fans were driving around with prior to BC I........ "There Will Be No Pity in the Crescent City." 76,000 fans showed up in Old Tulane Stadium. They beat us good. If it is any consolation, we won the half time show. I'll never forget the Juke Box marching in that stadium. That my friend, was something to see. :emlaugh:

Dude, I done told you about bringing THIS game up. Smh

Grambling vs PV is heating up, especially now that PV has risen from the ashes, and beat us 3 years in a row. If the G-Men beat PV this year and kills their chance of going to the championship, it would only add a new layer to this game.

Historically, you can't deny the rivalry. From the Red River Classic days thru the McNair days.. Alcorn vs Grambling was the place to be! Now since then, either Alcorn has sucked or Grambling has sucked and the rivalry has lost it's shine but to ANY old head.. GSU and Alcorn is DEF a rivalry!

For me it has always been SU and JSU!! I use to hit up the Red River Classic my undergrad year.

He just telling the truth!! I dont know why anyone would list Alcorn vs GSU as a rivalry.

1 GSU VS SU
2 JSU VS SU
3 AAMU VS AL ST

Come to think about it Gram vs Alcorn was a rivalry to the extent that it was the very first College Football game to be played in the Louisiana Superdome. I was fortunate enough to see it as a youngster. Doug Williams was throwing some of the most beautiful bombs you ever want to see. :emlaugh:

Errrr D*** OHH OK!!

I don't think so, just getting better. :emlaugh: I was fortunate enough to have a Dad that would bring my brother and I to games though. Man some of those Marino Casem teams at Alcorn was something else. And, when Eddie and Marino would square off, it was some of the biggest games in all of BCF. As you know, times have changed but that Alcorn/Gram rivalry was something else (TP is on point). We use to have the same caliber of athletes that now play in the SEC. It is not a mystery why LSU is so good these days.........We don't get them in Louisiana anymore. This might surprise you, but at one time Grambling had New Orleans on lockdown. When Southern broke the long winning streak against Grambling, It was a roster full of athletes from across the country though we had a few from Louisiana........Jack Yates Houston, Westinghouse Chicago, Creshaw Los Angles, Booker T Washington Atlanta, Florida and so many other places. When we brought in St. Aug's Otis Washington, it was to break the chain that Grambling had around New Orleans.

(That's why I made the comment about Gram vs S.U. as the top Rivalry pre 90's. There was a lot of things going on to bring some balance to the rivalry. We wanted to beat Jsu and FAMU at the time but not even close to wanting to give it to Grambling)

The infamous Clockgate  . The clock went from 9:00 to 6:00 to 3:00 minutes on 3 plays  . Bama St should be ashamed  .

Man, that clock management was something to see. :emlaugh: That's one of those things that you will never forget for the rest of your life..............Now back in the day, Tennessee State, man they were independent and had their own refs......... :smh:  :emlaugh: I remember in The Morning Advocate, they dedicated an entire page (not just a little short article like one reads today) on some of the shenanigans they would pull on Southern ( I kid you not). :emlaugh:

We made up for in the SCG but that loss was so frustrating

You all might have won it in Montgomery if you weren't cheating. Remember, Southern scored on you all and there wasn't enough time for you all to do anything. :emlaugh: I bet that time keeper wish he could have some of those minutes back. :emlaugh:

Bruh

I think after that game, I read or later found out, Pete told the bus drivers to head back to B.R. that same night

LMAO...man our local WAFB and WBRZ ate that lost up

I think we were front page..like with the Big Picture LMAO..there was uproar about that, being on the front page of the Advocate, well, them cornballs made sure we were on the front page and had a big section LMAO..man I remember that whole week..pure hell

Yes I remember that. I kept a big poster with ticket stubs and article cut-outs from that season because we were undefeated heading into that game. As a young middle school kid, I was so hurt to have to put that article on my poster. lol

LSU was sorry as heck in the 90s, so the media made sure to put us on blast with any losses.

We would have won it in Montgomery but Charles Coe made one of the all time dumb decisions when we passed on 3rd down and yall had no timeouts left. If we ran the ball, yall wouldnt had time left on the clock. But we foolishly passed it and the clock stopped. :retard: The rest is history. ..

But we got some championship revenge a couple months later.

For SU:

1) SU vs. JSU- I don't think any HBCU rivalry involves as much as this one does. lol

2) SU vs. GSU- A team that I enjoy seeing us beat. Also enjoyed putting a beatdown personally on their band for 4 years as well.It is tamer than the JSU rivalry, but there is still heat between the 2 schools.

3) SU vs. FAMU- Very historic rivalry. It seemed like all of the games from 2000 to present came down to the wire. I still remember losing that 2000 game when Pete chose to be conservative and kick a FG instead of going for it on 4th and short. Knowing our defense couldn't stop FAMU's offense, I think the whole crowd was chanting go for it. After the FG, FAMU came back down the field with little effort, ran the clock, and kicked the game-winning FG.

4) SU vs. Alcorn- I never really disliked Alcorn until last season when they beat us for our homecoming game. Seeing that Samoan dude run over to our crowd and talk noise to fans and then seeing him get a full cup of ice thrown in his face really showed me that some level of hate existed. lol

5) SU vs. UAPB- Folks sleeping on this, but a lot of stuff has happened when these 2 have squared off. I was there for the 97 triple OT game, I was there for the 2007 game with UAPB getting 2 chances to kick the game-winning FG, I was there for 2008 with the double OT game, and we all saw the fight and ending to the 2011 game.

Its going to be worse when we beat you by 50.

It tried to tell them........That rivalry hasn't been nothing nice.....(as if we need another one) :emlaugh:

You all still could have won it if you weren't stealing. They should have jailed that time keeper because he certainly without a doubt is a thief. :emlaugh:
