World Cup 2014

I agree that our best athletes don't play Soccer, but also some good one's do play and system at the youth level really needs fixing. We need to do what the foreign countries, be able to identify them at the youth level and not choose kids based on who's parents they know. I know how the system works because my son played at the travel level. You guys be surprised on how many African-Americans are actually playing Soccer when they are young, the question, can you keep them from switching sports?

What do you all mean about best athletes???

America will be more competitive in the World Cup when the collective sees an incentive to push our best athletes toward the sport. Right now there is none. Additionally, communities, towns, cities and states don't get a financial windfall from soccer success. Virginia has won the NCAA soccer championship eight times.

How many folks know that? How many folks care? If that were the football or basketball team doing that... There are entire communities, especially the business community, that rely on the presence of the football or basketball team. Them being really good helps, too.

Bottom line there isn't anything it in for anyone else as to why our best athletes don't play the sport.

Other countries are passionate about soccer as opposed to America because it is part of the fabric of the culture. The people identify with the players. How many of us know who is on the American soccer team aside from the cats who scored in the first game?

Soccer in a lot of countries is all they have. It is the only thing some countries can rally around or support in many cases.

The sport also can define a country. You know how football define certain states here? It works the same way with soccer in other countries. And the powers that be are gonna invest all their resources to ensure they're successful at that sport. There aren't other sports competing with soccer like over here in the States either.

It's multifaceted to say the least.

Hey Ken. It's nice that you have return. Now go back and answer my baseball question.

If the American's played their best players against Cuba or any of the Latin American baseball powers, it would get ugly for the red, white and blue. I'll just leave it at that.

Ken, you can't be serious??? Go look at the top ranked MLB players on ESPN and MLB. Who is going to pitch for Cuba. Can you imagine a top MLB all American pitching staff? You think just because their are a few good Cuban/Latin American baseball players, they could beat an all American MLB all-star squad. I'm so disappointed in you Ken.

Three of the top 5 pitchers right now in MLB aren't American.

A few Latin American baseball players? Nearly 1/3 of the league is Latin American. That's a lot. And that matters, too.

MLS has to become a legitimate league on the worldwide level where our best players would rather stay here (like Dempsey) as opposed to go to Europe (that and aging European stars come over here to get paid off their name i.e. Beckham (who could still play) and a few others).

Seattle has the best crowd/fan base in MLS. LA and Toronto seem to have legitimate fan bases as well (Toronto is one of the few franchises I believe that turned a profit within the first year or two of existence). But even with Seattle's crowd being as rowdy as it is on TV the games i've watched, you can get on social media and other soccer fans will still act like snobs and look at MLS like D-league soccer (which at this point it is compared to the rest of the world) although some gave the Sounders fans their kudos

THIS IS YOUR 2014 FIFA CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!

But we where playing Ghana.....Not Germany....Not France......Not England...........Not Brazil.......But Mighty Ghana. Countries like Ghana should not even be on the field with us, yet they consistently whip are azz. Ghana has a population of 24 Million people. California alone has over 38 Million. Maybe to you guys, but that shat don't make sense to me.

Didn't we still win the game? Bottomline, we won and got the 3 points. Survive and advance.
