ULL didn't take JSU for granted. ULL threw one of their best pitchers in their weekend rotation. Going into the game the kid was 7-2 a 3 era. The credit should be given to Coach Omar who had excellent vision in throwing pitchers with change ups at an overly aggressive ball club.......luck my ass :lol: :emlaugh:

I would agree with this. But, the win was unexpected...even though we (on this board) were cheering/hoping for the J-State win.
Also, the disparity in baseball is there. Schools in the SWAC and Southland hope to be the next Stony Brook. Also, a #4 beating a #1 seems common in baseball. C of Charleston win yesterday wasn't surprise to me. They have a program better than some SEC schools. Florida State's coach just said: "I don't remember my dad taking me behind the woodshed, but when he did I'm sure it felt like that whooping we got last night."
Baseball is a great sport where any given day, any team can be beat.

Stop trying to deflect attention away from your horribly wrong prediction, that was also incorrect since you didn't know it was a double elimination tournament. The article posted was about JSU's upset of UL-Lafayette and the reporter (Since the Advocate is based in Baton Rouge) brought up the other SWAC wins in the tournament, including 3 of SU's 4 post-season wins(You know since SU is a SWAC team and is in BR). V just pointed out that the reporter missed an SU win.

Florida fans were dreading that College of Charleston matchup since it was announced because they knew that was an extremely tough matchup. They got the toughest road to Omaha out of everyone. As should they manage to win their regional, they then have to play Miami(who should have been a national seed). Didn't seem like being the #2 seed really mattered to the NCAA.

Yes StitchHeads, as I tweeted out earlier, ESPN has given me the added responsibility of running the ESPNU Twitter Feed for the entire post-season once again this year. So while you guys are out at out there seeing great games in person and tailgaiting and having fun, I’m stuck on my couch, sitting in my underwear and sipping depressing amounts of whiskey while I comment and crack wise on games I see on ESPNU and ESPN3.
As for today’s first day of the Regionals, for the first time ever we’ve seen three National Seeds fall on opening day of the tournament. At 1:20am Eastern Time, College of Charleston put the finishing touches on the 3-2 win over Florida. Before that, we saw No. 5 seed Florida State get blown out by Georgia Southern, 7-0, and a stunning loss for No. 6 National Seed Louisiana, who was skunked by Jackson State 1-0. That was the biggest story of day one.
It was 10 years ago where we saw a SWAC team pull off a stunning upset of a National Seed. In 2004, Texas Southern, who finished in 5th place in the SWAC, won the conference tournament and went to face No. 6 National Seed Rice. The Tigers came into the first round game with a team ERA of 8.49, but starter Isaac Daniels tossed 7.0 innings, giving up the three runs and seven Ks.
The closer on that night was TSU’s actual No. 2 starter, Brandon Stricklin, who had a 4.67 ERA. The Tigers scored three runs in the 8th inning off a dude named Philip Humber, who had 11Ks on the night but also gave up 11 hits.
At the time I wrote that this had to be the biggest upset in NCAA tournament history. The only one I could think of was Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s 8-4 win over the Owls in the Regional opener. But unlike 2004 where they lost out before the Supers, the Owls rebounded from the loss to the Panthers to make it to Omaha.
Today we saw another improbable SWAC upset as Jackson State, who came in with just nine wins in conference play this year, took down No. 1 ranked Louisiana in front of the stunned-silent home crowd in Lafayette, 1-0. Since that 2004 stunner TSU pulled on Rice, the SWAC had lost 20 straight tournament games
