Dr. Dre to become a Billionaire?

I do know this, the headphones y'all are buying are way OVERPRICED and I'm not into trendy stuff like most of you young folks are into. Therefore, you are right, I know absolutely nothing about the trendy fad non-substance business called Beats Electronics. But maybe you can change my mind by showing me the substance value in Beats Electronics.

Who is buying Beats by Dre headphones?

They are making way more money on the technology linked to devices (phones, tablets, etc) than on the headphones themselves. Go buy an android phone and you're likely going to see that lowecase "b" someplace in the packaging or as an icon on the phone. Buy a Chrysler vehicle and you'll see the same thing.

This was what I was explaining to him earlier. This also the reason I don't think they should have sold the company.

That's nice, but still substanceless.

You might be too young to remember, but Dr. Dre and his gangster rap buddies were kicked off of Warner Brothers Records due to Dan Quayle's family value initiative, which is the reason why a lot of them were successful in starting their own record label. Right after Warner Brothers removed them from their record label, Time Life Magazine a company associated with Warner Brother Records printed an article explaining why gangsta rap is ripping the moral fabric of this country apart. The California Black Caucus saw what was happening and came to the defense of gangsta rappers. Congresswoman Maxine Waters was the biggest mouth piece in their defense, since most of the gangsta rappers were from her district. This pushed Minister Louis Farrakhan to have a million man march in D.C. This caused the Jewish and Black communities to be at their greatest divide, since Warner Brothers was primarily a Jewish based industry. To make amends, Warner Brothers Studio now Warner Brothers/AOL started allowing gangsta rappers into film, which is how Ice-Cube, Dr. Dre, Ice-T, and others got into the movie industry. After experiencing how others are able to make money from the Black Community with trendy items with no real substance value, I have little to no interest in companies that do just that, such as Beats Electronics.

All of that history (to a person who is over 40 himself) is just jibberish in relation to this topic. Some of it is inaccurate anyway.

Jag89, the majority of products being sold to consumers in America today, whether white or black add little substance to their lives. Do you really think the majority of Dre's sales are to black people?

Your words are exactly why most young Black Americans will spend most of their days being looked at as thugs by others. And since some of what I typed was inaccurate, please explain which part of it was. But what is really jibberish and insane, is paying $300 plus dollars for a pair of headphones or technology that is only worth $50 dollars at the most.

True, but somehow a lot of the money being spent on those items with little substance goes everywhere else except the Black community. The acquisition deal of Beats should tell you something. If Dre is co-founder of this technology and the acquisition is worth $3.2 billion dollars, which still won't get Dre to the billionaire category, someone is making serious money off of a product that was co-founded by a Black person.

NWA was never signed to WB. Ice Cube's movies (Boyz, etc) were not on WB, so the part about WB allowing him into the movies was not accurate. The Million Man March happened in 1995, which was well after the release of a number of movies starring rappers, so there was no rapper-to-movie related "make amends" as a result of the MMM.

Where did I say NWA was with Warner Brothers? But I do know Dr. Dre played a part in the movie Training Day produced by AOL/Time Warner, which is associated with the record company Warner Brothers Records that dropped Ice-T from its record label due to Ice-T being associated with gangsta rap. And did I say anything about the movie Boyz-N-Da-Hood?

Also, the Million Man March wasn't planned over night. Farrakhan did a tour through several cities way before the Million Man March took place in 1995. That tour was to gain support for the march.

Now back to the topic, no one can tell me Beats Electronics is worth $3.2 billion dollars just by showing me some mobile phone app or a car app. IMO, the app I show below is worth more than the Beats Electronics app, which is free to download and it allows individuals to stream whatever they want (movies, music, pictures, documents, etc.) straight from their external hard drive connected to their home network as long as they are connected to the internet. I'm sure the developer of that app is about to get paid mega bucks for something that only required a little of his or her time. And did I say it is free to download and doesn't cost anything extra to stream from your own home network.

Okay dude. Just keep doing you. You win. Dr. Dre isn't a billionaire and Beats is just an app. The product sucks and is a bane to the existence of Black folks because they cost so much.

It's not a win or lose situation when folks are expressing their opinions. You can interpret it the way you like, but like Pop said, most things people buy into come with very little or no substance value, which is why when a person buys a car and immediately drives it off the dealer's lot, it depreciates in value exponentially.

Also, according to the article that Fiyah posted, Dr. Dre won't be a billionaire after the acquisition is made and he is required to pay state and federal taxes. Although he will still have a lot money, he will be a few $100 million short of being a billionaire, which basically put him right at or just above Sean "Puffy' Combs.

Is Dr. Dre The World's First Billionaire Rapper?

In August 2011, Dre and Jimmy sold 50% of their Beats to Taiwanese electronics company HTC for $309 million. In a strange move, HTC sold 25% of its stake back to Dre and Jimmy for $150 million almost exactly one year later. In September 2013, the private equity firm Carlyle Group purchased HTC's remaining 25% stake. Carlyle also purchased another 25% stake which again left Jimmy and Dre with 25% each. The Carlyle investment valued the company at $2 billion which meant Dre and Jimmy's stakes were worth $500 million each.

First off, Dr. Dre has a $200 million fortune that has nothing to do with Beats By Dre. This fortune comes from music, producing and touring. Next we used Beats By Dre's $2 billion valuation from the Carlyle Group investment that occurred just five months earlier. At $2 billion, Dre's 25% stake added an extra $300 million after taxes to his net worth.

Assuming that Apple is paying all cash, Dr. Dre will earn $800 million off the Beats sale. The investment will qualify for long term capital gains treatment which will bring his Federal tax rate down from 40% to 20%. As a resident of California, Dre will pay 13.3% state taxes for a grand total tax burden of 33.3%. That means Dre will pay roughly $266 million in taxes off this deal, leaving him with a $534 million profit.

Based on the numbers that are available at the time of this writing, after the Beats sale goes through Dr. Dre will be worth $735 million.

Where these numbers might change is if we find out that part of the deal will come in the form of Apple stock instead of cash. As of Friday afternoon, Apple is trading at $585 per share. That's way up from when it dipped down below $400 a year ago, but 16% down from its all time high of $700 back in September 2012.

Black people and their BS about blacks making money and then trying to them what to do with their money and where. :smh:

It's official....

Apple is making things official: Dr. Dre's Beats Electronics belongs to Cupertino, and it cost them $3 billion. Rumors had circulated that Tim Cook was interested in nabbing up the audio accessory and music streaming outfit, corroborated by a beer-drenched video in which Dre himself declared....

Congratulations to DRE and his co-founding partner.
To much more success in the future.

No. It's a device similar to the Bose portable sound system.

I don’t listen to much music anymore, I didn’t know what a Bose portable sound system was until I google it.:): Now I know what both are and how expensive. Hopefully at WWDC Apple will show how all of this plays in their plans. There has been a lot of movement in Apple stock since this deal has been announced. Something is up.

I have three pair of Bose noise cancellation headphones ( 2nd gen, on the ear and the 15) and love them. I tried the beats, they are bass driven. I also have the bose sond system II and the Bluetooth system I take on travel. I see plenty of whites sporting the beats on the plane.

I want this in my crib

speaker-bbx-port-usb-black-standard-thrqrtleft.png

I have the older version. To me its a better investment than the headphones. I've hook it up to everything Ipad, phone computers, TVs, even my son's Nabi, lol. Its like an old school boombox with better sound quality. It cost about the same as some of the headphones.
