Tuskegee Exploring Division I?

What you are forgetting is they would have to play within FCS guidelines. They would not be able to play with rogue players. The other thing is they would have to compete every week and deal with attrition. I suspect they would be in a similar boat with Mississippi Valley. The only division 1 basketball team they played was UAPB last year and they loss. They have a very poor baseball program and would be lucky to get a conference win there. Not to mention their athletic program would not be subsidized by the state and would have problems keeping up with about 3000 students. They need a strategic plan to grow enrollment and build facilities to step to D-1. They are far off......

And there you have it

:lol....y'all crack me up sometimes...literally...:lol:.

Who in the hell are we, THE SWAC, to say Tuskegee can't compete in our conference when

1. We have gotten destroyed by FBS schools;
2. We can't even get our own APR stuff 100%;
3. Schools such as Arkansas-Monticello, North Dakota State and Concordia have won against SWAC Schools;
4. We can't even beat MEAC opponents consistently;
5. We have even gone so far as to pray a banned team doesn't win a tournament,

Yet we want say Tuskegee can't compete in the SWAC? I hope Tuskegee does move up. Sometimes, it's not how much money you have in the budget but how you spend it. Competition breeds improvement. I am a firm believer in that.

I am not forgetting that at all. It's not as difficult as you are making it seem. It's all about who is calling the shots and putting the plan together. Them losing to UAPB in basketball doesn't mean that they wouldn't have won games in the SWAC.

It's not impossible dude.

It's not impossible dude.

They can't come close to moving up at this juncture financially. I suspect after a year or two their administration would have them back in D-2 declaring they can't afford it. The SWAC really don't need that type of embarrassment. I also suspect they would eventually be forfeiting games because of finances.

1) What does that have to do with the topic at hand?

2) Again, what does that have to do with the topic?

3) So what? Georgia Southern beat Florida last season, that doesn't mean they can run the SEC. Several FCS teams pulled off upsets over FBS teams, but that doesn't mean their teams can compete week in and week out in those conferences.

4) Speak for your own school. We have done extremely well against the MEAC since I started following SU (early 90s).

5) Again, has nothing to do with the topic.

2-3. That's impressive.

I don't think so. But I could understand if that is the way you see it. What I see is a team that get up for AAMU & Bama State. However, the heat doesn't stop there if you have 7 other member to play. You don't get a Lane, Morehouse, Clark Atlanta, Benedict, Miles and Stillman break in the SWAC. :lol: :emlaugh:

Embarrassment? Wow.

Have you been watching SWAC athletics and academic reports lately? Tuskegee just might help us! Lol.

Help me with this, what are the academic guidelines for D-2 programs? :lol: :emlaugh: Some of you all are just throwing grits against the wall and hoping something stick........Besides, the context of my post was financial.

A 2 and 3 record against a higher division opponent is impressive anyway you slice it. I don't care if it's Concordia vs Valley. A FCS program shouldn't struggle against a division II program on a consistent basis. ASU and AAMU have both looked like sh_t against Tuskegee through the years embarrassing the SWAC. I just don't understand why you are giving AAMU a pass with a 26-20 record against a team who you are bashing for taking on teams like Miles and Morehouse!

I would love to know how you think Tuskegee would have fared in the SWAC in the following years:

2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, SWAC title year of 2010 and 2013.

Those guys would have been to a few conference championship games representing the East plenty of times.

You're all over the place. AAMU has only been in the SWAC for 15 years. They are 4-2 against Skeegee since becoming a conference member. The other 40 games was when they were D-2 (really dude?) :lol: :emlaugh: I've already addressed that other stuff you've posted.

I was being sarcastic, but let's not act like a
academic top 10 HBCU would hurt our APR.

I agree about the financial aspect, but proper planning can get the job done. It's not that difficult to match the average SWAC budget.

I was just stating the overall record. Hell, you put SU's 10-1 record in bold even though Tuskegee hasn't played the Jags since the 70's!

Ok, so AAMU's 4-2 record against Tuskegee is impressive? Wow.

Georgia Southern against the SEC can not be compared to Tuskegee against the SWAC. I agree that SU has fared well against the MEAC and want the Jags to keep it up, but let's not go overboard. SU has been facing MEAC tomato cans of late. It been a while since SU has faced a MEAC team with a pulse.

Even when we faced teams with a "pulse" we did well against them. And you missed my point. There were examples of lower-division teams beating SWAC teams. I used an example of the lower classified FCS teams beating FBS teams to counter his statement.

Y'all taking this thread down a different path. It's not about Tuskegee's competitiveness on the D-I FCS level ... it's can they afford to move up and how will they sustain themselves as a D-I FCS school.

1. Tuskegee currently sponsors 12 sports (6 men/6 women). Under NCAA rules, they would either have to sponsor one of the following combinations: one additional men's sport/one additional women's sport or two additional women's sports.

Question I: Does Tuskegee have the resources in place to add those additional sports?

2. To move up to Division I, Tuskegee has to fund additional scholarships to meet Division I levels.

Question II: Does Tuskegee have the resources in place, or can find resources, to finance the additional scholarship costs.

3. To ease the transition to D-I, Tuskegee has to find a conference to become a member of. This might be the easiest choice to make. With the SWAC, Ohio Valley, Big South, Southern Conference and MEAC having nearby membership, that brings up the next question.

Question III: Which conference is the best fit for Tuskegee?

Question IV: What does the Tuskegee leadership feel about moving up? Can they find and sustain resources for facility upgrades and the transition to DI?

Y'all give me a serious headache when you get on this board and don't know what the hell you're talking about.

In the last deacde and a half, SU has played against a MEAC team, it was three times against their conference champion in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge which they won all three.

The other time SU played against a MEAC team was in 2000/2001 against a FCS playoff team in FAMU where they lost by 1 pt at home and revenge the lost the following year in Tallahassee by a 3 pt win.

The other meeting was between two Top seeded FCS teams and #1 BCF teams in Vegas. SU vs NCA&T, SU ended up mauling them 35-16.

All three were much more better prepared for entrance than TU is at this moment and with far less concern about money or student entry. Factor in that TU would be directly competing with both the other Ala. schools for recruits I just don''t see it happening unless they get a huge ton of money from somewhere.

Ha ha ha! A fan of the SWAC's dullest school speaks again. It's funny how Grambling receives more media headlines during " harf times" than AAMU does for winning football games! It's all good. Keep screaming out loud to the SWAC and maybe someone from Mississippi, Louisiana or Texas might finally respond to you. Some of us keep forgetting ya"ll are in the SWAC.

How many times have you drunk Grambling's muscle milk in the SWAC title game again?

Man! Didn't you see me use the term "of late"? SU hasn't been playing top MEAC teams lately. I respect SU for taking care of business against MEAC teams, (unlike the rest of us), but don't second line about beating tomato cans. Delaware State, FAMU, Bethune Cookman and NCA&T weren't top MEAC teams when y'all faced them in the past 15 years. It's not SU's fault or choice, but SU hasn't been playing real deal MEAC teams in a long time. It's just the way it is.

Even when we faced teams with a "pulse" we did well against them. And you missed my point. There were examples of lower-division teams beating SWAC teams. I used an example of the lower classified FCS teams beating FBS teams to counter his statement.

I understood clearly and it was not a good example. Georgia Southern got lucky and beat a SEC team, but doesn't do it on a regular basis. Yes, it's crazy to believe Georgia Southern can run the SEC just because they beat Florida, but it's not crazy to believe that Tuskegee can win in the SWAC because they beat SWAC teams on a regular basis. Georgia Southern doesn't have a winning record against the SEC. There is no comparison.

But back to the topic, they are going to have to find some serious $$$$ to make it happen. Also they will find it much harder to adjust to FCS than AAMU and company did when they moved up.

I'm sure if Uncle Booker's school does make that jump to Division I, Massa Morehouse College won't be too far behind.
