Spin off thread: Who is the most disliked sports figure from your school?

we got a couple, but I don't know about hated, but most polarizing is Willie Totten. Folks love him as a player, but as a HEAD coach he was underwhelming.........

They both prepped at Ville Platte High School. I got a chance to see their band once back in the day. They were a very good predominately black band (don't know how they are these days).

Yep, they are from Ville Platte. Their sister is married to my frat brother Walter Williams. I think Roy Johnson's brother Randolph "Ricky" Johnson was the band director for a little while before heading to Liberty Ms as band director

Yep....Ville Platte is not too far from my hometown (Alexandria), approximately 35 to 40 miles. Before I-49 was completed, I used to drive through it when I took my ex-wife home to Opelousas when we both attended SU. I didn't know too much about the high schools in Ville Platte or as the French would say, "flatland". My ex-mother-in-law (RIP) was from Ville Platte, but she wouldn't say much about her people. I knew more about my ex-wife father's family then her mother's family.

Dude, Gerald Kimble! Dude did nothing but collect a check, and admit that he was out of his league! HE didn't recruit, didn't coach! He'd be at the same clubs as the students... The team was glad when he was fired my freshman year! Then came Pete...
Man please Kimble isn't nor was he ever hated around SU! Kimble went on to Coach SU lab and be the radio analyst for SU. As far recruiting who do think recruited Pete's first team? That may not have liked Kimble? The fans didn't hate him. Greg Lafleur is by far the most hated sports figure at SU!

LOL. I was thinking the same thing. Maybe Juke didn't like him because of the wins/losses. He wasn't the first coach to "party"

Otis Washington could hang with the best of them.

LOL. I don't think ole Kimble was dislike by the masses of SU fans and alums though Juke. Maybe just some of you students at the time may have had a beef with him. I understand the party thing. We had Otis Washington then Casem took over. Otis could get his party on too, but he could recruit his arse off just like Kimble.

Also remember Casem took over for Kimble in 92 after we couldn't get Markham from Bama State. Delores made Casem go back on the sideline since that was a debacle. Then Pete came in 93 after Casem tried to push the Gunslinger on SU after a year as our OC in 92. Thank goodness that got overruled. Kimble had recruited talent though. Pete walked into talent in 93. Kids that Kimble and then Casem had recruited.

Pete was like a kid in a candy store with that kind of talent and the coaching staff he brought in. :emlaugh: Yeah Kimble was a player during the Mumford era and is certainly liked by North Louisiana Southernites too. He coached at Green Oaks-Shreveport before coming to Southern and those folks from Shreveport think very highly of him among others.

See what had happen was come to find out in 2006 - '07 CLeb had a growth on his brain and his thinking was illogical and by the time it was discovered Benedict was already hired...I forgive you CLeb for not going to the doctor sooner!

Then yall turned around and hired.. nevamind...

Yeah I am you ass....there were 15 people in the stadium the last game I went to under Bell, I was 11. Find someone else to interrogate and troll.

Lol. I'm messing with you little mama. Lighten up. I'm surprised no one from JSU mentioned Brian Culbertson.
The abhorrence for him bordered on the same abhorrence for LaFleur from us Southernites.

As you can see, most people don't have a most disliked sports figure becasue no one has ever cared enough about their program to dislike somebody. #truth

Now, historically speaking, would John Merritt be considered a disliked sports figure for JSU. Even tho we didn't dislike him when he was there, I know our players and coaches wanted nothing more than for him to fail.

Excellent point, TP.

I don't think Doug is disliked... just a lot of folk didn't agree with his methods (results) during his last tenure.

You also have a faction that never liked/accepted Rod Broadway...which I really didn't understand. Dude was a helluva coach in my opinion.
