Spin off thread: Who is the most disliked sports figure from your school?

For AAMU, even though Coach Ron Cooper pissed a lot of athletes, students, coaches, & fans off, I say President Robert Jennings. He set us waaay back. I know I'm wrong and I will have to ask for forgiveness but I guess the man didn't even like sports.

I'm pretty sure JSU fans will mention James Bell.

Maybe SU fans will mention Stump Mitchell. Yet tell me this Jags, I get the impression that Marino Casem was not liked when he was AD. Was this true?

I can remember not long ago, Alcorn State fans were fed up with Dr. Johnny Thomas after that 0-11 season.

How about Cleb and Tex. Southern fans out of frustration referring to Bill Thomas as Lamont Sanford back in the day?

I guess with Grambling, it's either Doug or Melvin, take your pic.

Anybody that challenges the Alcorn Status Quo. Ernest Jones, Donald Carrie, etc. We don't hide like some punks against competition. BTW, our competition comprises all other HBCUs and not just JSU. And we love to smack talk.

Stump was not disliked at SU. Folks actually had respect for him as a person. Just not as a Coach. LOL. So he is still welcomed in BR.

Casem has both folks who love him and those who were just ok or not really a fan of his at SU. But I don't think he is the most disliked guy ever at SU. But there was a faction of SU folks not in his corner for sure. It was more political than anything.

I don't know if we have one. It would have to be an old school cat before my time. Right now I would imagine LaFluer is at the top of the list SPORTS wise as far as SU is concerned. Spivery and Grant probably are not beloved either. But not hated.

Oh no. I didn't forget them. I just stuck to the sports position folks. The Board and Administration have many hated members to put on the list. LOL.

Dude, Gerald Kimble! Dude did nothing but collect a check, and admit that he was out of his league! HE didn't recruit, didn't coach! He'd be at the same clubs as the students... The team was glad when he was fired my freshman year! Then came Pete...

Yeah, I'd have to agree.... LaFleur gotta be at the top of the list.
I can't see anything positive about his being our AD.....:smh:

but Ron Cooper wasn't really disliked.... AJ was more disliked than Ron Cooper was (in their last years)

Lafleur without a doubt

and Coach Odums and his staff for asking for his seat at the basketball game :lmao:

Wasn't that Kimble boys that got Pete his first championship though? Guess he just couldn't coach. :emlaugh: My guess is Lafleur would be the undisputed champion. :emlaugh:

LaFleur!!!!!

Didn't care for his brother neither and he was my crab brother/freshman dorm suite mate.

Well, to me it seemed liked that 2001 team had given up playing for him. It always bothered me that as soon as someone messed up, he would pull them out and put someone else in rather than just ride with them. In some cases, it is necessary but the way he did stuff back then was not. Example, Kelvin Robinson, that QB that transferred from Central Florida, he should have stayed our QB that whole year. Somehow Coop got upset and went through 2 or 3 QBs before he settled on Robinson again....totally uncessary...

And oooh that JSU game in 2000. We lost in OT. Why when we were up 28-21 in the 4th quarter does this clown do an onside kick (shrugs shoulders)? Maybe it was just me he pissed off...LOL...remember when he used lineman Chance Turner at fullback and he would fumble? How about misusing Marvin Strong for 3 years by having him play LB instead of the position that he was accustomed to. When Coop left, I believe Marvin returned to fullback and did fine. I can't remember but something was also going on with the Off. Coordinators back then too. He let a good one go but brought in someone else whom he would have issues with. I think one guys name was Don Jacobs and both are still around. I don't know man, maybe Coop was too much for me.

I think most people was ok with Jones because we didn't want to go through the coaching carousel that we went through before him and he was somewhat consistent. I can't speak for everyone but when he did not let Isabelle play in that last SCG appearance we had against Grambling, I was ready for him to go....

Man please, Ernest Jones isn't no where near the most hated Alcorn figure. He still should be the coach if you ask me. Ross and that puck azz AD Hamilton mucked over Jones and that entire coaching staff. Them some batches fired the entire coaching staff without consulting Jones and that shat was all on tv for the world to see. It was a sad time to be an Alcornite.

Our worst sports figure is none other than Dr. Johnny Thomas. By far the worse head coach in Alcorn's history. I was on the yard during our only win-less season. It was a complete mess. Alumni used to come to the yard and march to get that mofo and Dr. Bristow fired. I was right there with their azzes too. Thomas took a once proud football program and turned it into shambles. Dr. Bristow kept that none coaching mofo around. It took Bristow's death and hiring of a new President to finally get rid of Thomas. If Dr. Bristow was still alive and at Alcorn, Thomas sorry azz would still be the head coach. Man I'm still pissed about that. That mucked up my entire four years at Alcorn. Thank GOD the basketball team and Davey Whitney was really good.

Dang man. His brother is cool with me. Good dude.

He was cool. I guess one LaFleur can mess up the whole family's name. I still remember him telling me his brother played football for St. Louis Cardinals and was drafted from LSU. I knew then that Greg Lafleur probably though he was too good for SU.

They both prepped at Ville Platte High School. I got a chance to see their band once back in the day. They were a very good predominately black band (don't know how they are these days).
