yep.. you can go back and check for yourself. When JSU was banned, one of my MAIN gripes was that the presidents from TxSo, GSU and PV voted against us when their scores were WORSE than ours.

If they were lower why did they not get the same ban at that time?

I agree that what they voted on then should still be in affect for the current schools.

JSU's overall student graduation rate was much higher than those schools which meant that the football team's rate had to be the same or better.

Don't just narrow it to those 3 schools, it was a unanimous vote among those not in APR problems but they're scores were not worse. If that was the truth they would have been in the same boat at the same time......

So quit telling your untruths.....

Without even reading your post, let me guess: it's anti-JSU and wrong as usual. It's actually folks who are banned who are complaining. We have no reason to complain but we sure do have reason to laugh.

Y'all killing me

yeah but those three schools had WORSE APR than us.. how dare they vote to ban us.

Dude you all had worse APR but you all applied for waivers and JSU didn't. Also, you all qualified for a special type of waiver becasue you all were not able to fill your roster at a normal rate since you were just starting to offer scholarships back them.. but your APR was worse than ours. Frazier had bad APR and people seem to forget that.

i didn't even read that.. i don't have to.. I remember. So whatever point he is trying to make is not the point I am making. now poooo on THAT!

Typical black people, hate to read and get the facts. Most of you JSU folks seem to rely on hearsay. I have never seen a bunch of people who jump on each others bandwagon just because. Typical black uniformed people just spreading lies. If you would look at the info, JSU was under 900 multiple years so don't sit up here and act like and lie with a straight face like you all never was under 900. Typical Wanna Be Snobs and for what reason? To make you feel better about yourselves huh lol

Re: NO MORE EXCUSES

I'm tired of all the excuses the SWAC makes for not reaching APR goals, especially in a year like this, when 3 of the top 5 athletic departments with biggest budgets fail to make the grades. If Grambling, Jackson State and Alcorn can do it, there is no reason why the rest of the conference can't do it, because all the others have to do is follow the models at JSU or Grambling. Grambling faced APR issues in Men's basketball, so we purchased a system that tracks every student athlete class attendance and coaches are required to do classroom checks. JSU applied and received an NCAA grant to booster their compliance staff. It's time for the SWAC to stand firm and send a message, GET IT RIGHT OR GET OUT, because we need to stop whining in letters and news articles about unfairness and of step up to the plate !

Very interesting! Maybe we need go back to making sure our guys are winners in the classroom first!

NCAA Considering Transfer Changes: Players With 2.6 GPA Would Not Have To Sit Out a Year

By Ty Duffy January 4, 2013 12:52 pm ET

The NCAA is considering significant changes to its transfer policy for student-athletes. Most notably, players would not lose a year of eligibility by transferring and those student-athletes with a 2.6 GPA or better would be able to transfer and play immediately.

Currently, the rules are unfair for student-athletes. Players commit to a school for four years. Coaches, without non-compete clauses, can leave on a whim. Coaches maintain an undue influence over those student-athletes wishing to transfer, with power to withhold permission for the most frivolous of reasons (such as making the coach look bad). The solution is to address that unfairness without creating roster chaos.

NCAA ponders new standard for transfers
Article by: JOE CHRISTENSEN , Star Tribune Updated: January 16, 2013 - 12:13 PM

Under one proposal still being researched, student-athletes wouldn't have to sit out a year in four sports if they carry a 2.6 GPA.

Former Gophers quarterback Max Shortell has a strong arm and good grades, but under current NCAA rules, he'll be ineligible to play for another top-division program next season after transferring from Minnesota.

In coming years, however, athletes with Shortell's grade-point average might not have the same restriction.

The NCAA is considering a rule change that would permit athletes to compete immediately for any school after transferring -- if they carry a 2.6 GPA or better. This is among many topics that will be discussed when the annual NCAA Convention opens Wednesday in Grapevine, Texas.

The transfer legislation is still in the early stages, but one timeline, published internally by the NCAA, suggests a proposal could be presented by the organization's Leadership Council to its Board of Directors by August. That means athletes could be able to transfer under the new rules by the fall of 2014.

…..

Student-athletes are allowed to transfer once and compete immediately in all sports except football, basketball, baseball and men's ice hockey. Those sports aren't given the exemption because studies show that when athletes from those sports transfer, they are far less likely to graduate.

But research also shows that athletes who transfer with a 2.6 GPA or above are just as likely to graduate as those who stay at their original school. That's why the NCAA picked 2.6 as the benchmark for its Academic Progress Report (APR). A program loses points toward its APR if a student transfers with a GPA below 2.6.

APR fears put transfer hopefuls like Setty in tough situation
by Jeff Goodman | CBSSports.com College Basketball Insider
April 25, 2012 2:51 PM ET

Treg Setty is being held hostage.

OK, so that may be semi-overdramatic. However, Southern Illinois' 6-foot-9 freshman isn't allowed to leave Carbondale. Not without a 2.6 cumulative grade point average.

It's not as if Setty is a brutal student. He has a 2.5 right now, the equivalent of a B-minus. However, it's not a 2.6 -- the minimum threshold for a school to avoid taking a hit on the APR (Academic Progress Report).

Setty played about 16 minutes per game last season and averaged 4.4 points and 2.5 rebounds for the Salukis. His coach, Chris Lowery, was fired last month and replaced by Barry Hinson -- and proper protocol is to allow players who want to leave to transfer elsewhere following a coaching change.

That's no longer the case, though.

Setty has plenty of company and it's only going to get worse. Western Kentucky is doing something similar with freshman Vinny Zollo -- except that both Hilltoppers interim athletic director Todd Stewart and coach Ray Harper are, at least, allowing Zollo to talk to other schools and seem to be at peace with letting him leave even if he doesn't make 2.6 after the semester.

"It's important that all our players finish the semester strong," Stewart said. "But if you look at our history, we always do what's best for the student-athlete. When Vinny's situation is resolved, we'll clearly do what's best for Vinny as well."

But for now, Zollo is in a holding pattern. He was a role guy with the Hilltoppers and his official release, obtained by CBSSports.com and signed by associate athletic director Pam Herriford, states the following: "Your men's basketball staff has permission to contact Vincent "Vinny" Zollo regarding a possible transfer. He will not be granted a transfer release unless he maintains a minimum 2.6 cumulative GPA at the end of the spring 2012 semester."

"It's detrimental to me," Zollo said. "I can talk to other schools, but those restrictions make it difficult for anyone to take me right now. I don't think it's fair and don't understand why they are doing it. I'm eligible by the NCAA to transfer and should be fine."

.....

The intent of the APR, developed back when the late Myles Brand was running the NCAA, had no shortage of merit. However, it's flawed and needs tweaking. Not just due to situations such as what Setty, Zollo and Ferguson all find themselves in, either. Let's say a player has failed multiple drug tests or gotten into trouble with the law. If a coach dismisses him from the program with a GPA below 2.6, the school takes an APR hit.

Re: NO MORE EXCUSES

Uh were we not banned in 2011. We were not clowning anybody back then. You need to direct that to someone else. Gram, SU and JSU were all banned then. The problem is, instead of yall clowning the mofos who wore yall's arse out on the board. Yall still focus on SU. Who really isn't in current APR trouble. We are not repeat offenders either. That's the dumb stuff yall are not seeing. But some of yall ain't that smart. Like I always say on here. Makes me wonder what some folks do for a living and hope they ain't in decision making roles for their companies.
And there you have it. But still in all, I could have sworn that our athletes from 2013-14 have nothing to do with what happened in 2009. It seems as if most are putting it that way. I'm sure they will still penalize us but postseason bans will be gone. I know when they came for those 2 days, they liked everything but the ruling on June 25th. I was expecting something earlier than that.
