Look at the article about the late Dr. Greggs. All what the man has accomplished with that marching band but they still have to put that negative undertone about the missing funds from the band department (which could have well been a mistake that he paid back) Why put that in an article when you are supposed to be honoring an icon and reporting news to people that are supporters of SU and your newspaper.

I was furious about that too. I bet they wouldn't do that to Frank Wickes(LSU's former BD).

Dugouts are crazy close to home plate too. Saw some close calls at games there with balls ricocheting near disaster.

SU/BR was awarded the bid on the tournament last year until they moved it last minute because three Mississippi coaches itched. It's only right.

Good deal! I plan on catching a few of the games unless the Louisiana Legislature says otherwise. Having the tournament in New Orleans should draw a nice size crowd. The stadium is very nice and right across the street from SUNO. I saw where someone mentioned the hotels in New Orleans are higher in price than the ones in Baton Rouge. Well the weekend of the tournament there is nothing really big going on so the hotel price should be reasonable. If the prices are still too high, you can always go to Metairie or Kenner.

I guess someone listened to me. The tournament will be fine at Barrow. It's always been crazy to me how Barrow is directly across street from SUNO and they don't have a team. As strong as black baseball has been in that area from NORD to NOLA High Schools, I just can't believe that they never took advantage of their area. Loyola used to play at Barrow and made it their home field at one time. SUNO could at least have a club team if funds weren't there.



I will be at the tournament screaming for my Gmen.

this is the swac where the fans and front office would rather the conference suffer then do the right thing. the dumbest excuse I heard was that SU needed to stop hosting because it was home field. smh I guess the NCAA need to stop letting #1 seeds play so close to home.

a tournament should have a tournament feel.... they should be played in a NICE arena/field.... above average college facility. It gives teams something to look forward to... playing at SU isn't nothing to look forward to. We need to go to minor league fields.... Trustmark Park, facility in Montgomery, Regions Field.... anywhere thats above average.

I could have sworn that the tourney was going to be held in Memphis? I guess they were just considering it. Interesting to see what the Bulldogs will do knowing how far this program has come. I'm happy for Bama State's success but I hate it because any other year, the team AAMU has would have a really good chance to win it.

Playing at ANY SWAC field isn't nothing to look forward to. Not 1 SWAC baseball facility is "above average". And the venue hasn't been an issue, as shown in the last 2 "neutral" locations. Fair Grounds Field (Shreveport) was old and very dirty. LaGrave was older and needed a paint job.

The SWAC has played at Trustmark once but the SWAC doesn't generate enough fans to keep Trustmark. Thats goes for the place where the Biscuits play, Regions, Sugarland, Metairie, etc. The concern wasn't about SU is if it's "above average" or not, it was about "home field advantage". There were some Eastern division coaches that said the SWAC West had an advantage since each team had played on the field. That's a poor excuse.

I don't think they want to host any conference event in a state which doesn't house any conference members.

With the way the tournament has played out the last 10 years, who knows......It could be an ALL BAMA CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!

It's typical when it comes to baseball. I remember the year after the SWAC was at Trustmark, everyone thought the tourney was going to be there until mid April when it was changed to Smith Wills. And Smith Wills came in Jeopardy when the school that plays their games there (Belhaven, i think) was in the playoffs and may needed the field. The reason it went back to SU was due to lack of planning and the conditions at Fair Grounds

The South Land Conference has played their conference basketball tournament in a high school arena in Katy, TX (just west of Houston) for the past five years or so.
