Once again, how are you going to MAKE a player fit a system that is not suited for him? I mean you can try, but how long will it take the player to adjust to it or will he be willing to change himself?

So players can't adjust their game to fit a system? A coach can't tweak his system to incorporate the best player in the state? Surely you jest. Seems like Louisiana folks got caught sleeping and Riley came in and stole the best player in your state.
He wasn't rated as the best college prospect in the state. He had the best high school year this year. He was a great talent that will likely fit in best at Alcorn. I hope he does well and if he beats SU, then so be it.

Um ... so why are some of y'all giving Southern grief? Dude bypassed UL-Monroe, Grambling and LaTech to go to Alcorn. Last time I checked, Richwood's in Monroe and practically down the street from Grambling and LaTech.

Really? Coach Banks was suppose to recruit him because he averaged 32 points even though our system wouldn't fit him. I didn't know he bypassed them and La Tech had a great team for the past 2 years. Oh well.

You gotta admit 32 pts a game is in impressive. My question would be did Banks even take a look at him? The first link on here has him listed as a guard/forward. Is there like a youtube video of the kid playing?
Kid even said he wanted to go to UL-Monroe but they didn't offer him.

To me, the bigger story is why and how did UL-Monroe, LaTech and Grambling let Monsta get out of north Louisiana. Some of us know folks that live in Richwood/work at Richwood HS, and they should have a better idea of what's going on. Monsta was in the News Star talking about he wanted to be closer to home and what not.
Also, our situation didn't do us any favors.

I gotcha. There's always a use for a talented player. Saying something like that wreaks of arrogance. But several factors (our APR limbo, Banks' coaching situation, Monsta's grades, etc.) led the young man to do what's best for him.

Apparently you're not aware of the admission standards in Louisiana higher ed nowadays. I know kids that can get into Texas Southern, but can't get into Southern because of their ACT score.
Maybe Monsta could've gotten that test score. Who knows? Maybe he didn't have all of the core courses. Who knows?
Here's the SUBR admission standards ... which are the same for Grambling, Southeastern, Nicholls, Northwestern State, McNeese State, UL-Monroe

Please note that the standards will increase somewhat in the summer.

He ain't in at Alcorn yet. Just like any of our players who may sign letters of intent.
Props to Riley for getting on the kid. But we all know we have seen this before with all our schools. Kids sign and never show or don't get the grade to get in. You know there is a reason none of the La schools or even JSU didn't offer the kid. Not saying the kid can't play even if he had to modify his game for his height in college. But you can't tell me every D1 BB coach in La passed on this kid who was a MVP kid. You don't think SE La or NW LA State coaches knew about this kid?
Why didn't Coach Brent offer him? Or Grambling's coach? Surely with their improving squad they could have used him. I wish the kid luck and Alcorn as well. I will not say SU had no use for him. But something about the kid drew no interest from Coach Banks and his staff for them not to offer or they had all their offers on the table to other folks. Just saying. It would not be the first time a coach passed on a kid. Now it is up to the kid to show all the schools who did pass on him, that they made a mistake. Nothing more or nothing less.

Yeah those are the ones. Tre Lynch and Bryce Clark were transfers into SU. Only playing this year. Mitchell, Johnson and Miller were players that will have the most impact. Mostly Miller. Mitchell was not himself this year with the earlier heart issue. Johnson was always a decent role player but could get hot here and there. Streaky. Miller did not find his groove as a starter like he did as a 6th man but he will definitely be missed. We had about 3 players sitting out this year that should be ready to go next season. Plus Godfrey, Hyder and Banks will all be back as starter.

I have to check and see but I do know that we had about 4 recruits who redshirted including All State in LA last year. Tournament MVP from New York as well. A transfer from TAMU who will help Calvin down low. I figure they will add another big man and a transfer wing person who is probably around 6'6 at the 2.
