The 2014 Darkhorse

Spring practices are over for most of us. there is a little consensus that PV and Alcorn are the favorites to win their divisions, but JSU, SU or Alabama State could easily make a run. outside of these schools, with the little information we have, what school wouldn't be overlooked ?

I haven't seen any consensus saying Alcorn would win anything. Compete for the East division, yes, but outright win it? Certainly not.

I think Valley will be the spoiler either on some teams this year. Sounds like Big Worm going to smash the west according to SU posters

Dark horse........It would have to be either Valley or AAMU (The defending SWAC Champions are not a "Darkhorse.")

That's the plan. What else are our fans going to say after winning the SWAC title and having a team that should be stacked with talent?

I think AAMU and Grambling (Yes I said them) are the dark horses.

Dude, we aren't winning anything. You guys got a boat load of big DTs to run Yoshida' D but y'all are going smash the conference with that high powered offense alone.

As far as darkhorse, I will say AAMU from the East and GSU from the West. I don't expect GSU to be down long and AAMU couldn't get any offense going. They showed spurts and had a nice running game.

This is the SWAC. You never know who will come out fighting and win. Every year is a surprise.

really? Arnold Walker was tough, but he HAS to be gone by now, who does Alcorn return?

Im not really high on Alcorn talent but I am high on their experience. I still think you all have the upper hand going into the season. The darkhorse on the EAST would have to be AAMU. In MY opinion, JSU, ASU and Alcorn are all expected to put a good product on the field based on last year's results. I personally expect a better product from JSU but that's another topic.. AAMU is the darkhorse to ME because they are trying to install an offense that I don't think they have the athletes to run. BUT they seem to have the 2nd or 3rd best staff in the conference and that works wonders in the SWAC.

In the WEST, SU is MY darkhorse. I have no faith in TxSo, GSU, or UAPB at this point. The WEST should belong to PV, hands down. So simply by a process of elimination, SU would be the darkhorse only becasue I don't think they have a realistic chance to win the WEST title. They will have to be stronger as a TEAM to even get above 0.500. (..and no, I'm not trying to smack. This is just my opinion). We will also have to see how key transfers will help to improve the SU team. It's good that the coaches realized they needed to be stronger in a LOT of areas so they called in some re-inforcements.

A few more players are expected to sign. Waiting on paperwork. :read:

They got a very good transfer JUCO RB and their QB returns. They should have some continuity in that locker room with who they got coming back. Expectations should be high at Alcorn.

Snicker

Every school in this conference has the "talent" and "skill" to win it. Hence, all schools are dark horses, IMO. It will come down to coaching. I'm keeping my eye on AAMU. They came out of nowhere in baseball. Could do the same in football, too.

This is the way I see it:

EAST

1) Alcorn
2) Bama State
3T) AAMU **
3T) MVSU **
5) jsu

WEST

1) S.U.
2) PVU
3) UAPB **
4) GRAM
5) TXSU

** Denotes Darkhorse

All these Cleo's lol
