2014 Spring Practice Storylines: Alcorn State A Favorite In The SWAC East?

We probably should based on 18 returning starters and winning the Head to Head with Alcorn last year but I'm more focused on where we finish.

You all are clearly the favorite... but you have to get the SU monkey off your back. You all also don't play well vs Jackson State. JSU is the wildcard in the EAST becasue no one knows what to expect...but considering that we have been #1 in the east the last 4 years, and many believe that we have an improved coaching staff, I think it will all come down to JSU-AlaState. I would certainly not take Alcorn lightly tho.

I'm not confident in Barlow leading you guys to a championship...you guys will contend, but I just don't think Barlow will get y'all there this season

Ok, well ya'll will be 1-3 (hopefully) when you roll into Alcorn.. 1-4 when you leave.

Yeah bruh.. I drove up there for the 2012 game. I hadn't been on The Reservation since the late 90's.... 1998 to be exact. The Epic Alcorn/SU 1998 game at Alcorn!!! That weekend was Crazy!!! SU was soo Deep! Visitors side was Capacity and over 1/2 of the Home side was ALL SU.... We sat on the Home side on the 50. Deep Trash Talk.. But all Love!!

Beautiful Day Game!

Man please dont remind us of this darn game lol. 98 was my crab year. We had yal beat then our coach kicked a freakn on-side kick with little time on the clock. Yal had a short field, got a first down, and kicked the winning field goal. That ish was crazy lol.

You mean 2008? Why was 1998 epic? Wasn't Alcorn like 2-9 back then? Im confused.

I honestly see Alcorn loosing a game they shouldn't lose...The East has been JSU, Alabama St and A&M for so long I cant see it changing...How can you crown a team as a favorite when they havent done anything...

Bama St will be good
A&M will be good
JSU we will be surprising a few teams

either way it goes if Alcorn doesnt go this year its not gonna happen for a while...

Our problem has been those darn Bama teams. I honestly see us playing them better this year coming but we have to play each game cause teams will not sleep on us this year.

Thats an honest statement because usually around the time the JSU/Alcorn matchup comes around the EAST is already wrapped up...Not saying Alcorn wont be a force to be taken seriously but not ready to crown them yet...I remember a few times Alcorn had some good season only to finish out losing 4 or 5 games...The East will not be decided until November!

The ONLY team I am counting out of the EAST race right now is Valley because Valley would have to work a miracle to get them a winning season. I would also put AAMU as the long shot to win the EAST but that's always a fighting team! Right now, I would call this EAST as:

1. BAMA State
2. J-State
3. Alcorn
4. AAMU
5. Valley

The new staffs at JSU and AAMU seem to be better than the other three staffs in the EAST but getting the teams to gel will be a big task especially when you have the ASUs returning so many starters.

.The East will not be decided until November!

Actually, I disagree with you there. I think that the strongest EAST team will handle their business and wrap this us by the end of October. Why? The competition in the EAST will be such that the rest of the teams are going to knock each other out. Valley is even GOING to upset somebody!

Slick scared of Valley...they play us hard every year, no slack! That game will be a good one. Well, I see the East going how it finished: 1.Jsu 2. Bama St. 3. Alcorn 4/5 aamu, valley. Of course the hype will surround the bama jsu game. Bama alcorn will be a good game also. I really do not see corn making it.

Do you want to compare the JSU-Alcorn scores to the JSU-Valley scores over the last 10 years. Valley has been a much tougher opponent for us than Alcorn. Why you think people are so concerned with the JSU-Valley game?

Who? I'm not concerned about any of the games but if I were, it would be Alcorn because they beat us last year.
