Why is it easy for Caucasians in small towns and cities to succeed without degrees?

Re: Why is it easy for Caucasians in small towns and cities to succeed without degree

JAG89, I want to apologize to you and the other guys for talking to you in such a dismissive manner. I can imagine you feel the disdain and contempt pouring from my posts.

We all know what racism is. My contention was not about what is "true racism" (as if there can be any other kind of racism). I'm simply suggesting that we approach the challenges of life from a different perspective. Rather than focusing on how we've been wronged, let's focus on ways to defeat and overcome the wrong in order to achieve success anyway. In no way would I ever suggest that we haven't been wronged, there is no wrong or that we ignore wrongs. I just think we should be solution-oriented rather than complaint-oriented.

That's all.

I can agree to this post, but in order to solve a problem, one must first be able to recognize the problem, which is the first step to basic problem solving skills.

If you are not part of the solution, then you must be part of the problem.

Re: Why is it easy for Caucasians in small towns and cities to succeed without degree

Both sides have points.

When I look at my hometown, whites do have a monopoly on the few good jobs and companies in the area but like Jagfan stated, they are a small minority. Most of the people I went to school with that stayed home and never got an education are working low wage jobs.

And the small number of Whites in-control also controls the economic disparities between poor Blacks and poor Whites.

So the key is to basically find a way to open a business at home and hire black people. That is how we can all give back. Sort of how India did with the U.S. Find a way to insource jobs to the hood.

True, but just remember that the business you try to open to create jobs for Blacks will have to get approval from the same racist institutions that are keeping Black folks as the poorest segment of the population.

People care more about money in general than they do about racism. Those companies who outsource call centers to India aren't doing so because they love the people of India.

Re: Why is it easy for Caucasians in small towns and cities to succeed without degree

This is both funny and sad ....

It's sad to see a group of grown men have absolutely no clue what it takes to have the "success" they see middle class white people having and resort to simplistic answers like "white folks are racist" and "they can get loans".

Brothers, we have to do better. Somebody needs to break down - step by step - what it takes to create positive financial results and what things lead to negative financial results.

Knowledge and behavior. That's what separates white people ... and Asians ... and Nigerians ... and everybody else who "succeeds" from African Americans. This is not to deny the existence and effects of racism in this country. I just wish some of you all had some practical answers that could help Black people move forward financially rather than propping yourselves on that age-old excuse of racism.
Man this was perfectly said...

Basically, wherever they can find the most slave labor. China and India are the two most populous nations in the world, with both having over 1 billion people. China and India combined makes up about 35% of the world's population.

Re: Why is it easy for Caucasians in small towns and cities to succeed without degree

Man this was perfectly said...

So this man compared the worst of Black behavior to the best of Whites, Asians and even Nigerians and you claim it was perfectly stated? Most Black folks are making it inspite of the odds. Most Black folks aren't in prison inspite of media portrayal.
This guy stated as if most Black folks were failures economically and morally and you claim it as being perfectly stated?

History is the umbilical cord that keeps a people connected but when that history is ignored and forgotten, that people will become divided.
Heck, even your bible focuses on history and has whole books dedicated to it and what not to do to avoid repeating that same history.

Re: Why is it easy for Caucasians in small towns and cities to succeed without degree

Keep in mind that when people compare blacks they are only comparing the blacks in America and not all over the world....

Its over a billion Africans in this world as well, just wanted to add that....

I did no such thing. You're not even close to my actual point.

You need to slow down, read and attempt to understand what's being said before you post. I understand the desire to oppose everything I say, but you can't adequately oppose me if you don't know where I'm coming from. Get an accurate understanding of my argument first, then offer a counter-argument.

History is an umbilical cord to connect people, okay good.

Umbilical cords are fine as long as they don't get wrapped around the baby's neck. But a lot of of our people let that "history umbilical cord" get wrapped around their neck as it relates to economics, finances, getting ahead, etc. and you know what happens then.

It's hard to make a lot of excuses, and make a lot of money, at the same time. Gotta choose!

Re: Why is it easy for Caucasians in small towns and cities to succeed without degree

I have to agree with that...I have said many times, AAs in America are really good at sabotaging themselves...lots of talk but little action for success..That crabs in a barrel pic is iconic and true for many...it IS ingrained to an extent...we have to recognize and move past it by not harping on the rhetoric and instead focusing on ACTION for change. Racism is a problem and now apathy and entitlement is becoming a larger problem

I agree with that last statement Nevah. So true. I have put my focus on success, personally. Yes, I know their are barriers but I am starting to see a little of the fruits of my labor and I want more. As I stated earlier, even now, the extra 12-1500 a month that my side hustles have bringing in monthly at this point has been good. It has allowed me to pay down some of the remaining credit card debt from my honeymoon, invest in a few stocks and buy a few toys. If I really sit down and focus even more, I think I can legit get that side hustle up to 3k a month by next year. My initial goal was just to pay for student loans but now I see the opp for a legit business.

Also, working for the federal govt means that I can telework or have a flexible schedule and have my basics taken care of. I am due a promotion at work this summer so that would really be good. I am excited about the opportunities I see God laying out for me. I am going to do better with giving money to church also.

That's good. Thinking like you think, I have no doubt that you'll become more and more successful.

I don't think one person said to use racism and history as an excuse not to succeed. What folks are saying is don't ignore it or be afraid to talk about it or be naive about it.

Re: Why is it easy for Caucasians in small towns and cities to succeed without degree

 Folks miss that whole point when it comes to race relations. One reason race relations will never improve is folks will never really point out all sides.
