NCAA Tournament ............ UPSET CITY so far!!

Stephen F. Austin took down VCU...........Of course VCU helped them out by being up 4 points with less than 5 seconds to go and fouling on a three point shot attempt.
The guy made the shot and free throw(4 point play). Sent the game to OT and SFA won it....... VCU player didn't understand the situation. Do not contest the shot when you are up by four with less than 5 seconds to go in the game...

Don't even get near him.... just let him shoot.

So what if VCU helped them out? When is the SWAC going to win another NCAA Tournament game? I been told y'all it's time to hold our coaches and administrators more accountable. Now An FCS is moving on. I hope NC Central wins too.

Can someone tell the refs that upsets have been happening all tournament long. No sense in trying to help Virginia early this half.

The SWAC does not play at that level. Our coaches and players don't believe they can win at that level. NCCU and other MEAC teams believe and win ooc games that we consistently choke.

We are all D-I in basketball. There is no such thing as FCS.

Central is a very good ball club. They got by S.U. by 1 or 2 points last year. And IMHO S.U. team last year was better than the one this year.

Another thing, Central is rooted in the CIAA.......Those folks play basketball! Remember Hampton came out of the CIAA raising pure hell from the CIAA......It is the house of Big House Gaines.......

They sure in the hell do. NCCU is playing well right now, Iowa State is just a bit too strong on offensive. For some reason, I believe that NCCU would have fared better as a #16 seed.

I don't agree. SU's team this season had way more depth and shooters. The injury bug really hurt SU this season. Before Hyder went down, SU was #1 in the nation FG % defense. He was also #5 in the nation in assist to turnover ratio.

Iowa state was one of the worst match ups for NCCU. NCCU has played good, and they are a good defensive team. they just ran into a team that had 3 players that could get their shot at any time.

The MEAC doesn't play a tougher schedule, the play a smarter schedule. They make sure their schedule allows them to win a good number of games before conference play. Unlike the SWAC, they don't get their heads kicked in by bigger D-I opponents up into conference play. That's why we hardly see their champions come into the tournament with horrible records.

Of course you wouldn't agree........You're just being you....... :emlaugh: Either way, Central kicked our azz last year and would have this year (like NWST did in football).

????? That was a good, closely-contested game. They definitely wouldn't have lost like our football team did against Northwestern State.

NC Central beat Southern 59-55 up in Wyoming during nonconference play last season. I wouldn't have called that "getting our azz kicked"

Ironically, we got beat down in Ames when we played Iowa State in last season's opener.

But the bottom line is, some of us have this inferiority complex so bad that we can't even fathom being competitive against other non-HBCU schools. That's sickening. We gotta get out of that mindset and change the inferiority culture that permeates throughout the conference and a good portion of the fans

And the smart people said amen.

When Norfolk State won, they mentioned their AD said that instead of the constant beat downs they (the AD and the coach) decided to make a 3 year commitment to play a consistent non-conference of schools on their level. The SWAC needs to do that. We're in the footprint of the Sun Belt, Big South and OVC plus other conferences like the A-Sun, SoCon, Southern and other 1 bid leagues. We have to consistently beat these schools first.

NCCU BEAT NC State. When was the last time a SWAC school beat anyone from a major conference?

Before there was "Big House Gaines", there was Coach John McLendon at North Carolina College for ******s now North Carolina Central University (NCCU). The man who revolutionized the game by introducing the up tempo style of basketball. Coach Ben Jobe admired his style of play and brought it to Southern University. Coach Jobe was able to build a team at SU that took down the ACC tournament champion Georgia Tech in the 1993 NCAA Tourney. Georgia Tech was completely outgunned by SU.

He was a major contributor to the development of modern basketball and coached on both the college and professional levels during his career. He is enshrined in both the Basketball Hall of Fame and the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame.

Like you stated before, some folks need to watch ESPN's two part series "Black Magic". It seems like there are a few on here that lack the knowledge of knowing the history of basketball, especially when it became an integrated sport. I downloaded a copy of it to my external hard drive.

The two teams in the SWAC that have some of the richest basketball history are SU and Grambling, which was due to the competitive play of Willis Reed (GSU) and Robert (Bob) Earl "Butterbean" Love (SU).
