NCAA Tournament First Four Preview: Texas Southern vs Cal Poly

Basketball 101...If you are double teamed that means someone is open. If you are triple teamed 2 people are open. What are your chances of making a shot when 3 people are on you. 30 plus points is nice but wasn't the goal to win the game? Takes a team effort to do that, no matter what you say folk unless he was trying to go Kobe and drop 81.

Reggie Miller was saying this throughout the game last night. Heck I was saying it and then compared it to the PV game. Murray would kick it out to those other players and they were nailing shots on Saturday. Last night they didn't take a lot of 3's and weren't making shots so a lot of times he was taking on double and triple teams and still forcing the shots.

TSU only took two fewer 3-point attempts last night than they did against PV.

But TSU didn't lose because Murray didn't share the ball. Hell, he took 13 shots in SWAC title game and the Tigers had to hang on to win that one. Their defense, especially close outs, weak side help and in the paint was porous all night against Cal Poly.

Cal Poly was just content on allowing Murray to score. They didn't have anyone who could guard him. They were only concerned about limiting everyone else.

Agree with that as well. That was the other part. Like the guy said earlier in the thread 57% from the field is a killer, but I think TSU should've slowed down the game and limit the possessions on the otherside since they were not stopping them on defense. That involves moving the ball around on offense and what Grant Hill was saying after the game.

Murray scored over half of his team points, shot 14 of 23 from the field, 3 of 5 from 3 point line and 7 of 7 from the FT line. The rest of the team shot 10 of 27 from the field, 1 of 8 on 3 pointers and 10 of 15 from FT line. If Murray was hoisting up and missing a bunch of shots you would have a point. But he wasn't. He dominated that game, even being "double teamed". He shot 60% from the field. The rest of the team shot 37%. I guess maybe you think that on some of Murray's made shots, he should've passed it.

Looked like to me the old colored team with the race horses that would loose to the less physically talented team because they just played a smarter ball game.

It's time to INTEGRATE swac sports. The swac will never be competitive until it goes after the best available players not just the best available black players.

I am embarrassed for the showing TSU made and I apologize to you all. TSU seemed to have no idea of time in the second half. That was a poor showing from coach on down.

Do you know of a place where there are good white basketball players beating down the door to go to a SWAC school?

The loss of Associate Head Coach Donnie Marsh (left for South Florida) hurt us tremendously in the off season. He was the backbone to the great defense we had in 2013. Ironically, USF fired their head coach last Friday.

Cal Poly's points off turnovers was a key.

The SWAC has been integrated a while now.

Look at Texas Southern's men and women's golf, softball, men's cross country and baseball teams.

Talented black high school/JUCO basketball players will always outnumber white players.

For the season? I'll abstain.

Before the season started I would have said Miller from Southern but he really took a step back from what he was projected to do after coming off the 2013 campaign.

Yea One year it was beltran but murray seems to be able to score 20+ a game. I wonder if he has nba dreams...

It sure has, for quite a long time. One can also look at a number of our (PV) teams too.

What a disappointment. Ijust knew TSU were going to blow these guys out.
They didn't look like they wanted to win.
You just don't lose to a below 500 team.
This is a black mark on the SWAC.
