SWAC Championship Game Attendance

Re: SWAC Championship Game Attendance.

Add that to the rest of the tourney games and the SWAC probably made a million dollars :smug:

Re: SWAC Championship Game Attendance.

8058 according to the Houston Chronicle. Tickets prices for Saturday game 30.00 & 40.00 dollars.

Having exciting games didn't hurt either. The way some of these programs are going this tourney should only get better in coming years.

Re: SWAC Championship Game Attendance.

I thought Friday and Saturday was well attended. I enjoyed it the entire week. Heard about those prices. Glad I had free tickets all week. Oh yeahhh

Kenn and DCG whats your thoughts I saw both of you??

Re: SWAC Championship Game Attendance.

Congrats to the Champs.
I'll go next year. I stayed home to participate in The Green-Mardi Gras in downtown Jackson.
I ended up catching the stomach virus though. Smh.

Re: SWAC Championship Game Attendance.

The SWAC out drew the Southland Conference. Both conferences had rival teams playing in the final. sTu vs PV (SWAC) and Stephen F Austin vs Sam Houston State (SLC).

ESPNU announcers liked the idea of having the girls and guys play their tournaments together.

Re: SWAC Championship Game Attendance.

The economic impact to the city, as is the case for all events, is the determining factor for the tournament surviving here in Houston. I heard Duer Sharp say on more than one occasion the economic impact to the city was 44 million for the football championship.

Re: SWAC Championship Game Attendance.

This can grow in Houston. They had stars coming out and good entertainment for this tournament.

Re: SWAC Championship Game Attendance.

It can grow but the radio stations here in Houston did a horrible job with advertisement. Even when PVU played TSU yesterday you didn't hear much about it.

Re: SWAC Championship Game Attendance.

That falls on the company hired to promote the event and the SWAC office. They need to go over every possible finals scenario and be prepared for a media blitz. Pumping the names of SWAC "stars" should be in the promos as well.

Yeah, you're right about that. A friend of mine complained that no times were given, the day of, for the championship games when he was listening to the radio.

Why are you blaming the radio stations, if you buy advertisement, you can cut your own spots or have them cut for you or give them the promo points for live reads.

KTSU could have done a much better job on championship day also. We had both teams in the championship, so its not too much to expect an announcement of the games and times every twenty minutes on the hour.

Ummm excuse me for not buying the ads. I think that falls on the SWAC not little ol me. Whenever you get finish talking the fact still remains that little to no promotion was done here...

Re: SWAC Championship Game Attendance.

97.9 had promotionsfor a month leading up to the tournament. I don't think I heard anything on 93.7, though.

I personally believe the radio advertisements did what they were suppose to do, inform and spark interest. The consumer then should take the initiative and look up what games they want to see. Everyone has a smartphone. If I hear something on the radio that sparks my attention, I immediately do a Google search and find out the details. The ($30-$40) ticket prices kept the average person at home..but 8000 is a great crowd considering the prices. Overall, I feel it was a good look for the SWAC.;)

There boys game had a good showing but I'm not sure about the 8000. They game away a lot of free tickets during the week. I had a good time and the SWAC Office pushed the game.

Re: SWAC Championship Game Attendance.

Uhhhhhh, we are talking about KTSU. Once when the tournament was in Garland, the "sports" talk show host did not even know where the tournament was being held nor the day it started. I called in and gave him the info.

This past Saturday morning he said, in essence, he thought they should talk more HBCU sports when he was interviewing Dr. McClelland. I told Doc he has the mic and controls the direction of the program. If he wanted to talk HBCU sports all he had to do is do it....instead he prefers to regurgitate crap we have heard all week on daily sports talk and the evening news AND ESPN ALL WEEK LONG.

Not everyone has a smartphone. The guy that normally sits near me at basketball games does not even have a cell phone or email and a lot of the older folk have flip phones.

The SWAC office and the ad company should do a better job getting out info.

Re: SWAC Championship Game Attendance.

This year they contracted that out to the same company that does promotions for the CIAA Tournament. I think they did a good job covering media outlets but the content of the ads is what I take issue with.

I listen to 93.7 102.1 and 97.9 in the morning everyday to work and didn't hear jack lol. Now during the afternoon I can't really speak on.

Re: SWAC Championship Game Attendance.

as soon as the semifinals were announced, have the potential championship ads ready to drop that night...

secondly, reduced ticket prices in the finale will help as you may not get a local matchup every year..imagine if it was AAMU and Alcorn in the finals...

outside of that, not much to complain about as it was well-ran
