NEWS FLASH! PER SWAC COMMISH, DUER SHARP.............

Folks let's use some COMMON sense. Most of, if not ALL of our teams have been hit with APR infractions. What is the common denominator in all of these situations??? THE SWAC OFFICE! 10 SWAC compliance offices aren't that clueless and inept. They are taking their lead from the top. We always see constant turnover and upheaval in the SWAC Office. Is it beyond the realm of possibility that there are people there not fully understanding compliance themselves???

We claim to have the best during the times where things are going well....but in reality the best are only measured by how they respond in times struggle. The SWAC has not responded well at all. This most certainly includes GSU. I love my school but these incompetent people are killing the school.

I have said it in the private forum and I will say it here...It is time for GSU to get new leadership and trim the fat...because right now we are so over weight until it's dangerous.

:shame: RIGHT, because to need the NCAA to give us a exemption to make the SWAC Tourney is shameful as a school and conference

Said it before. Will say it now. If we are banned, no need of playing in the SWAC tourney.

I k ow about the grants, but to paint the broad brush of SWAC schools compliance offices being lazy is a wild generalization. The schools report what the SWAC conference requires. Maybe the SWAC should reevaluate the data they require and make sure it is in sync with what is needed by the NCAA instead of being renegade.

Dude this APR monster is killing the SWAC.
Why are we the only conference struggling. 40% of our conference men's basketball is banned this season.
Yes 40%.
Not only are we struggling to keep teams eligible but our commissioner struggle with make decisions on how to run this conference. There's no consistency. It's like trial and error each year. That's not a good look.
It's been 5 years and you still don't have set rules in place? That's embarrassing.

I honestly don't believe the SWAC office is taking this seriously.
Therefore the SWAC schools aren't taking it seriously. Which is why we will continue to see more and more schools become ineligible.

How is that unlike what I just said? We are basically saying the same thing.

The ineligible teams are only allowed for the 2014 season until the matter can be revisited during the SWAC summer meeting according to the article below:

http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcspo...-teams-allowed-to-compete-in-swac-tournament/

The NCAA also weighed in on the matter in regards to future rulings with a statement:

In response to a request from the Southwestern Athletic Conference, the Division I Men’s and Women’s Basketball Committees will allow the conference to amend its automatic qualification policy for the 2014 championships only.

The conference tournaments will still determine the automatic berths into both NCAA championships. The eligible team that advances furthest in the conference tournaments will receive the automatic berth to the NCAA championships. In the event of a tie (for example, all tournament-eligible teams are eliminated in the same round), the automatic berth will go to the highest-seeded team.

The process will be revisited when the men’s and women’s basketball committees meet in the summer.

What does the SWAC office have to do with individual schools not understanding APR policy and procedures? That's not the SWAC office' job, it's the job of each school to hire competent compliance officers.

Exactly, Which is generalizing. We're all in this together.
Even schools who aren't hit with APR sanctions; They're effected by this. They're apart of the SWAC brand.
If the top (SWAC office) can't get it together then the bottom (SWAC schools) cant

It's a chain of command dude. The schools report their data to the SWAC office. The office has compliance forms that are to be filled out. If a SWAC school fills out their form of everything the conference asks for whose fault is it then??? The office reviews it and flags things that they find. They then report the data to the NCAA. Somebody correct me if I missed a step in the process.

And like the Bama State coach said, the decision was made with two weeks left in the season.
The SWAC knew at least three schools would be ineligible but when su suddenly was banned, this suddenly became a critical issue requiring a vote? Where was the voting at the beginning of the season before su got banned by the NCAA. Seems like this was done to appease or get su folks to Houston.

J-State2DaPoint, welcome to The Brotherhood. We know shit is shit and smells like shit. Folks are still drinking SWAC Kool-Aid.

My best guess is no one. The NIT is not automatic for conference champs who don't win their conference tournament is it?

The more I think about it that must be the line of thinking that if SU wins or make it to the championship game they will have a chance for a NIT bid

Is there any possibly way SU can petition the NCAA to take another look at their paperwork since we will know have an additional week before Selection Sunday?

Our APR problems appear to center on record keeping and reporting. Our electronic systems and data entry processes need to be standardized. That would alleviate many of our problems.

I disagree with this ruling, however the NCAA does not decide which team gets the conference's automatic bid. The conference determines who gets it, whether it be the regular season or tourney champ or whichever team if eligible. Conference tournaments are not required.

I don't disagree with the ruling, but I do disagree with the timing of the ruling. I understand the reason for doing it is financial, but you can't make these kind of decisions in the middle of the season. The same applies in large part to the NCAA's decision to declare Southern ineligible for postseason play back in December, when they began their season in November thinking that they would be eligible for the postseason.

The timing for both announcements stink.
