MVSU Signing Day 2014

Although I'm not a Valley fan, I hope Comegy brings a winner to US82. He won in Jackson and his firing was some shullbit for real. Anything that helps the Valley, really helps all of us. The SWAC needs all the talent it can get. Our football product has to improve. So if this helps Valley, we all win.

Keep it up, Bookman.. :tup::tup:

Agree with all of this ....

Looking forward to seeing what Comegy does at Valley. This is a pretty good start.

(the one missed was Brent Lyles lol)

You mean the one he tried to back door his way in and steal? Yeah, he "missed" completely on that one.

Has he assemble a complete staff yet. all this optimism and he has nobody to call plays yet..He has no clue on offense..

You think woody will come back to Comegy, the man that fired him? Lol ok. How much can valley pay for full staff or good OC?

Thanks for the kudos dude. I am all over top ranked recruits. I find the background stories of these recruits interesting. I read that that kid impressed Mullins in the football camp in Starkville. I think Comegy and his men should really show this kid some support because who knows what will happen after he gets past the ACT.

If we can get him it would be great

This is a small class so far, but all of these players are something to talk about. Comegy is just a smart recruiter. These guys could go to any school in the FCS and fight for a starting job. If you don't believe me, then watch there clips and look at their offers. Comegy has brought in a small group of mad talent. Comegy is going to turn Valley around quickly if he keeps landing these type of players. When was the last time Valley signed 2 two star recruits? Big Ben Lyda is a nice size offensive lineman who is a 2 star recruit that Comegy flipped from going to Western Michigan. 2 star Jevon "Bubba" O'Neal was headed to the FBS ranks. I don't know how Comegy pulled that kid away from the big time! As someone already stated, O'Neil might be the best DB in this class. Nelson Hale of Pensacola Catholic is going to add pure size and power to go with MVSU's defensive line. He has 102 tackles last season on a 12-1 squad. DB Mark Pegues is a solid pick up. He had 89 tackles as a senior on a 14-1 Oxford High team. These players are going to be an instant impact on Valley's team because their defense already returns some key players I expect to see a much improved Delta Devils defense. O'Neil and the SWAC INT leader Avery Boykin are going to look good in that backfield. But then again, O'Neil isa hell of a WR as well.

Respect to Comegy's recruiting game! This man landed some players who only know how to win.

I asked someone very close to the Godby football program how MVSU was able to come in and snag 3 players...he said "Simple...they came with a serious offer...no BS"

Comegy ain't scared to go get him...maybe he can bring some pride back to the MVSU program

He seems to be just a good athlete period. He was the Godby QB in 2012 and I guess he transitioned into WR (while also playing DB) his senior year

Good points. Like I said before, Comegy must have used the buddy system to reel him in. It's just a bold statement to the SWAC on what type of kids he has the power to bring to Valley on signing day. He did a good job at Jackson bringing in leftovers, JUCO specs and D-I second chance x-cons, but to flip a Big Ten prospect to Valley is big news. I expect them to land about 8 more kids by August knowing how Comegy gets down. I would say he lands 2 more stars, 3 solid JUCO's, and 4 more unsigned high schoolers with speed or size begging for a home.

Recruiting is all about building relationships and selling yourself and your program. Comegy has said that they are still on the hunt and his phone has been ringing off the hook with folks trying to get at him. He's nowhere near finished crootin!

You will learn not to listen to anything Comegy says LOL. I'm sure he'll bring in some nice players before the season. At JSU we learned to ignore NSD and wait to see who shows up in the fall. There are pluses and minuses to that approach.

LOL all we had to do is wait for it.

Neal was a big-ten commit?

Crootin,...lol....you guys at Valley haven't seemed this happy in good while. Congrats on what Comegy and you all have going on.

Comegy believes in having talent and, unlike a lot of coaches, he knows where and HOW to get it. The man is a winner. BUT don't expect him to be an X and O coach...and don't expect anyone on his staff to be an X and O coach. They will win what they can with talent.

Who he gets to run that offense will be big. He will NEED a good OC.

..as for Woody and Benedict, they keep cutting that man's budget. No telling how long he will stay over there. You can win with no money. They do have a decent stadium tho.

mane you don't know nothing bout dat crootin! Seriously though folks appreciate the hard work our previous staff put in, but with the advent of this new president, ad, and coach they seem to be re-investing more into the program. That will definitely get people excited, especially when you see immediate ROI's in quality kids signing with your school. I just wished the previous administration would have made more resources available.

Valley, do not, DO NOT let Comegy hire Woody.

Yes, with Comegy, a few things they must realize..

1.) He just talks to be talking. He hates the camera and interviews so he says whatever comes to mind and whatever sounds good.. true or not. So just turn down the volume when he is speaking.

2.) Comegy's first couple of years NSD meant nothing but I think his last two classes were good and he signed some great HS talent that showed up and they are in the pipeline but with Comegy, the MOST important day typically is the first day of fall camp.

3.) Spring drills. Forget about it. Under Comegy, it's a waste of time. They don't use that time to teach anything new or even get better at old stuff. They are just out there wasting time for the most part becasue they don't know how to conduct a spring. Comegy used to use the Spring for cuts/tryouts. Since he can't do that anymore due to APR, he has no idea how to run a spring camp.

Yeah, Comegy can pull the kids in. But after all the signing parties end, the real coaching begins in the fall. And look for ALL your OOC games to be treated as "Pre-season" games. Meaning that they will not be interested in winning them. Those games will be used to judge the talent and see who wins starting positions. I remember one coach told us (small group of alumni) that.

Oh yeah, this is the worst. You will not be able to judge what kind of team you have from the spring or even your spring game. Kids will be out there just running plays. No techniques, no schemes, no nothing. Just playing football like the coaches just rolled the ball out there and said "Play ball!".

That is why it ALWAYS took our team so long in the season to find their groove and start clicking. ALWAYS.
