At 260K, hiring Tony Hughes from Mississippi State would have made more sense. Tony Hughes is from Forest, MS. So, he knows the Jackson area. He already knows the high school coaches in Mississippi. He knows the players that are available in Mississippi. He's up to date on compliance issues including APR. And he's a coach that could help them build a sound football program that could possibly move out of SWAC and make the dome seem like a reasonable venture.

But, nooooooooooooo! Not JSU. They had to screw up this hire on a grand scale. Let's make a hire that makes no sense whatsoever and tell people this was the plan all along and they got just what they wanted.

Bleedbluefan said Hughes really didn't want to be at JSU and he didn't like what they had. So I guess no money offered could get him there?

I think they didn't even take him seriously because them old heads wanted one of their own. They have been wanting this for years.

At least 3rd in the West and like 7th or 8th best in the SWAC. I didn't expect UAPB to collaspe and I didn't expect the PV defense to be so bad. I figured ya'll would be better than Grambling and TxSo tho.. :lol:

Your alums are killing me tryna rationalize this. Hughes was never anyone any of us REALLY wanted. We would have taken him but he was not some dude that we just really wanted.

And you didn't expect jSU firing Comegy and hiring old man Jackson for $260k. I guess your expectation of the SCG wasn't right either. Has anything you expected been right? :lol: :emlaugh:

That's not true TP. Some folks were fans of his. Let yall tell it. No one applied that yall really wanted. If that's the case. What does that say? I told yall last year, that JR was going to sit back and watch how the great JSU conducts a Coaching hire after all the smack and downing of how our AD handled things. Which he did very much in PUBLIC with no secrets or surprise last minute coaching hire after everyone had interviewed. This would have been the equivalent to us interviewing Jenkins, Spady, and Big Worm and then hiring Mel Blount. Hell Mel Blount is younger than Harold.

Well, that further shows how dumb your administration and fanbase is. If y'all never "really" wanted the guy that could have helped you get closest to your stated and unstated goals.

JR, again, the difference is.. ya'll had a clown show. Then you hired a guy you gave a courtesy interview to. JSU, for whatever reason, wanted Harold Jackson and went and got him. Maybe not the alums but the committee and the people calling the shots go their FIRST choice. SU didn't.

The two women that are running the show at jSU could give a hoot about what jSU's alum and fanbase want.

Neither do you. LOL. Even Robber said, he don't know what the fugg they talking about in his post yesterday I believe. You already said they don't talk to yall. So for all you know, the Queen could be plotting her way out of JSU and say the hell with that place. I am telling you TP. This was not her doing. She got punked. Which means the end of days is near for her and Viv.

That's what so bad about it.

The emotional decision to fire Comegy could have been made better with a great hire that improved the future prospects of the football team and the university.

Didn't happen. :shame:

Not at all. We hired a guy that had been in the program, had a clear plan, great attitude, and didn't command a ton of money. The following year he won a SWAC title. Maybe y'all should be taking notes. We could have hired Jenkins but he wanted to dictate the process. Our AD didn't go for that.

Yeah at least Jenkins asked us to wait on him (even though we know he pimping BCU and hoping that PWC job offer would come to him) and put together a video presentation for his initial phone interview. He didn't even give JSU that courtesy. LOL.
 
I'm no football expert, but how do you offer a guy who hasn't been a head coach at the college level since I was 13 more money than the previous coach who was 20 games over .500?

Good question Kendrick. Not only that. Made him one of the top paid coaches in all HBCU land and possibly top 10 in FCS land.
