Jackson State still searching for coach
Time becoming crucial in process

It’s been about three weeks since Jackson State fired Rick Comegy as head football coach, and the school hasn’t named a hire.

“The search is ongoing, and we expect to name someone as soon as possible,â€￾ JSU spokesperson Eric Stringfellow said Monday afternoon.

The seven-person search committee met Friday to discuss candidates, according to a source with knowledge of the hiring process. The committee came up with a short list of candidates and contacted them in the past few days, the source said.

Among the names linked to the Jackson State post are Mississippi State recruiting coordinator Tony Hughes and former Jackson State offensive coordinator John Shannon. Callaway coach Daryl Jones, a former JSU assistant, has also said he’s interested in the opening.


Hughes, a Forest native, has been with MSU since 2009 and was also an assistant coach at Southern Miss and Ole Miss. Hughes said he is interested in the position but had not been officially contacted by JSU as of Friday. He did not return a message left Monday.

That's right Coach Hopson. Use reverse psychology and destroy your in-state rival JSU. I would do the same thing if they offered me :lol:.
 



We are in the recruiting "dead" until January 15. So time is not as crucial as she claims. We have to get this right, no matter how much time it takes.

Only dead for in-person visits. Coaches are still making calls and sending letters. If someone is calling recruits, they are getting a lot of unanswerable questions.

At this point you're a candidate. You're interested in this job just like Everybody that's rumored to be on some fantasy list, yet haven't been contacted. Go stand behind Hopson in the waiting room and be patient.

Good luck JSU. I am hearing some good names associated to the search. But leave DJ at Callaway. You already took Brent.

I don't know if we can afford Pete. With Inflation, Pete should be making about 350k at this point. :lol:
 
Why is everyone not affiliated with us rushing us and worried? We are still getting commits...school starts Monday, i could see us naming someone by then. We pretty much know who the coach will be, they are working out contracts at this point. I would love for them to possibly make shannon OC if the new coach is willing to let him be on staff,keep knight and go get coach black back.

Nobody is worried. There were questions asked about other school's as well.

LOL. I think DJ is a good HS coach. But that JSU job is too big for him. Like you said, maybe he will come as an assistant. But I know he has been down that road with JSU before.

Everybody needs to leave Pete in retirement. LOL. Now Willingham is an interesting name. Don't know if he wants to coach again or at the FCS level.
 
If anyone is relying on the Beat Writer for info into the coaching search, you might as well ask the Brave911guy! She is clueless! She couldn't find a clue if she were related to Inspector Gadget.

We are in a good place as of today!
