Re: MBB: Jackson State vs Louisiana-LaFayette

I don't think you'll have any team run through the conference schedule with 15-16 wins this year. I expect to see a very tight battle among the top 5.

I think you are right. If these pre-conference games are any indication, this may be one hell of a basketball season. What I think is UAPB has taken a step back, jsu has taken a step up and Bama State is an enigma at this point. I need to see how they compete against Tulane tomorrow.

Thanks, I made the edit........I am trying to get a read on who is best but it can't be determined. We'll just have to see when conference time begin.

It doesn't matter.......We loss and they loss. The bottom line is we can't sleep on anyone. I don't see much separation at this point. Injuries is part of the game. We let Tulane come in our house and beat us worse than jsu loss in New Orleans. We may be better but it has to be shown. And you can please believe everyone will be gunning for us....That's just the way it is......

Re: MBB: Jackson State vs Louisiana-LaFayette

A 29 pt swing? LOL that Godfrey kid must be Michael Jordan.

Midway through the first half, Southern looked like it might be the team to pull away. Southern moved out in front by as many as nine points on a Calvin Godfrey jumper to make it 19-10 with 8:14 remaining before halftime. But Tech battled back to take a 35-29 lead at halftime.

Southern coach Roman Banks said turnovers (the Jaguars turned it over 23 times, leading to 14 Tech points) and the loss of 6-9 forward Calvin Godfrey, who left the game with 14 seconds in the first half with a hyper-extended elbow, played a big role in the Jaguars losing the early lead they built.

“We started strong with a lot of energy,” Banks said. “They press so much they cause turnovers, and that got to us after a while. And when Godfrey went down, we got small. We lost our inside presence, and that really hurt us, because he’s so important for us down low.”

Re: MBB: Jackson State vs Louisiana-LaFayette

Its called rose colored glasses

If a game comes down to free throws, SU has no chance . Currently, they are ranked 335 out of 345 D1 teams: http://www.ncaa.com/stats/basketball-men/d1/current/team/150/p7

And they are lucky they have depth mmentioned many times on TSPN because they commit an insane amount fouls as they are 322 out of 345 D1 teams: http://www.ncaa.com/stats/basketball-men/d1/current/team/642/p7

We are 17 and 59 in the same categories. Of note, there is no other HBCU in the top 50 for free throws and Grambling leads the nation in fewest fouls.

I agree our free throw percentage is terrible. Can't dispute that. But do y'all really think SU's committed that many fouls lol. A couple of games SU straight got cheated. Middle Tennessee , Marquette, Tulane and Denver.

One thing I've noticed with SU's statistics is they are the best defensive team in the league. Which means, they may have more fouls because they are playing extremely aggressive. I remember you guys saying SU haven't adjusted to the new rule that has caused many teams more fouls. Just think, refs are worse in the SWAC. They way you speak, is that every ref is against SU in all sports.

We will be fine. The defense is good and our offense is slowly getting there. We just need to work on free throws, and not letting teams make a living on the free throw line. Hard to win those games when a team scores 30+ points from just free throws.

We have TXSU in Houston on ESNPU on Jan 6.....looking forward to it

Re: MBB: Jackson State vs Louisiana-LaFayette

Free throw percentages for an entire team rarely improves from beginning of season to the end of the season. It might improve somewhat for a couple of individual players but when a team can't shoot during the beginning, they'll struggle during the middle and end as well. Either you can or you can't.
