Applicants For Grambling State Head Coaching Position Revealed

TSPN Sports, through an open records request fullfilled by Grambling State Univeristy, has obtained an official copy of the list of applicants reviewed for the position of head football coach.

  • A total of 88 names appeared on the list.
  • Five finalists (Dennis Winston, Andre Robinson, Broderick Fobbs, Henry Frazier and Ron Dickerson Jr.) were called in for interviews.
  • Broderick Fobbs was hired for the job.

Below are the names listed in alphabetical order.

So Pete did apply for the Gram job.
I see both Lee Fobbs and his son applied. Will Broderick bring his Dad on staff?

John McKenzie. Talk about a name from the JSU past.
Darrin Hayes? Isn't that the current JSU DC?

Chennis Berry is SU's current Co-OC

Eric Dooley, not shocked he applied

I assume Eddie Robinson Jr that applied is the former Bama State and Houston Oilers LB. Obviously Coach Rob's son just passed on.


Interesting list. Ron Dickerson Jr too. Son of former Bama State coach.

DaPoint, he was charged with assault. I had forgotten Comegy let him go with Woody and somebody else. Wasn't there a fight or some disagreement that happened at JSU with Woody? Was Bush involved?

But here is the article about Lincoln. It has to be the same guy.

Bush faces a third-degree misdemeanor assault charge for attacking assistant coach Kevin Faulkner during a meeting at Lincoln's athletic offices, said Herb Heinen, a spokesman for the Cole County prosecutor's office. The university said Bush was placed on administrative leave Wednesday and would be released July 31. Lincoln went 4-5 in 2001.

Nope. Just like I think Bo Pellini is an arsehole and idiot. I can't believe you support Bush after you dogged Odums out. That cat ain't won isht as a head coach. Gram would have been a stone fool to hire him. They would have been better interviewing Hayes over that cat.
 



I wonder what that rejection letter to Melvin Spears was like.

We would like to thank you for you interest in the head football coach position here at Grambling State University. After careful review of your application and a thorough check of your references, we have would like to schedule you to come in for an informal interview.
This interview will be used to determine what in the hell were you thinking when you applied for this position?!?! Man, we know who you are, your track record, and what happened the last time you were the head coach at Grambling. You're part of the reason why we're in the mess we're in now. Got our football team begging for Muscle Milk and other s**t!! You and your damned lawsuit. You will NEVER, EEEEVVVVEEERRR coach at Grambling again. As a matter of fact, enclosed with this letter is an official restraining order that forbids you from even getting within 200 feet of any entrance to Grambling.
Please stay the hell away from us! You must have your dates mixed up cause when we saw your name on an application, we surely thought it was April Fool's Day. Somebody actually let you apply to this job?!?! Whoever it is, please slap them and have them slap you. You must be out your damn mind!

He has a lot of experience as a position coach but that got him hired as the first African American coach in the Southern Conference. However, he bombed. He needs to try to get an OC job somewhere.
 
I believe Grambling made a decent hire(for them) but Fobbs salary is WAAAYYYY to high. He could've been had for 130K - that extra 65 could've been used to bolster his staff.

Seriously, some Gram alum or alums probably encouraged him to do so. There are still Spears supporters in North La.
