Do you feel the SWAC will be stronger as a whole next season??
Who knows.
Who's the Early Season favorite??
Jackson State and UAPB.

my early prediction is SU/PV vs AAMU....

with the players Jones left and a Coach who knows offense ....we will do some things next year

I know your talent was low on defense but are you all looking to hire a new DC?
\

Yea I like P.V. you guys have some of the best Athletes in the East if you ask me...I saw good moments out of the Defense, I feel if they just answer a few questions and sew up a few holes you guys could be damn good...

Why not? Assistant coaches get 1 year contracts. SOMEBODY needs to be fired over that mess.

jsu would be well advised to find a DC. You all were very fortunate Team Odums didn't bust the clock on you all. Your luck is going to run out soon and jsu will be embarrassed. Hear me now and believe me later.....

sheesh! Actually, our DC did an okay job. SU scored 6 point off of a JSU turnover and our offense gave you the ball back twice on running into the kicker AND our defense had stopped that 99 yard drive til the refs call that horrible PI call. On top of that, we ran a bunch of new defensive schemes. It was good to see that our coaches used that 3 weeks wisely. I hope they use the spring to perfect some of those defensive packages.

If anything we need an OC. The offense lost that game vs SU, not the defense. But with a better QB, our OC should be fine. He WANTS to throw the ball so dayum bad but Clayton was a runner, not a passer.

This is honestly not smack:

Alcorn and Valley have never gone to the SWAC Championship Game because of one reason... They only focus on Jackson State. There've been some down right poo years where the two of them should have slid in there by now. Until they get over the psychological hump of seeing only one game on their schedule, the drought will continue. That said... Hopson is probably the coach most likely to accomplish that.

In a nutshell: the SWAC in 2014 will be like the SWAC in 2013... close. You can't call rivalry games and from a talent standpoint, really every game is even.

Yep. You are probably correct with this post. Too early to say what is going to happen anyway.

And this is what the SWAC should sell as a strong point to the fans. The games are competitive and teams beat each up week in and week out.

True, but he has to at least get 2 years to implement his scheme and have input on recruiting his type of defensive players I would think.

The problem I see with PV is that they are too damn small on that side of the ball. I am actually glad Big Worm noticed the same thing at SU and is not recruiting that way. You got have a few big guys that can move and some that can take up space in those gaps or you will get gashed. You need a combination of size and speed on the defensive side and you have to have a scheme that fits the talent you have and of course able to counter being spread out. If you are going to be smaller on defense, you better have outstanding speed and folks willing to bring the hat and get people down to the ground.

This is not true.....at least not for Alcorn. However, I will say that the Alabama schools have not been a focus for some time now. And this is why we haven't haven't beat Alabama State in a long time and why we are hit and miss with A&M. This has to stop with Alcorn. The other teams in the SWAC get pretty much equal focus.

I do believe that Alcorn will show up next year. Gotta shake the Alabama curse though.

AGAIN....that PI call was the right call. I can post video of it if u like. It was a good call. GET OVER IT.

Right now, on paper, PV looks better than SU but they don't meet til October this time so that could all change by then but how you think Alcorn gonna jump over Jackson State and Alabama State?

The same way they jumped on dat azz this year. Alabama State game, Alcorn killed themselves on turnovers....Alcorn got better and will get even better...loosing on 7 seniors with 3 as starters......do the math...

Re: SWAC in 2014

I think 2014 is Alcorn's year to rise.

Of course, if AD Hicks finds The One then I will throw all of my cards on my Bulldogs!

I'm really puzzled that in spite of all of the support and backing he has received & the adjustments he has tried to make, Reggie Barlow has yet to lead Bama State to a SWAC Championship.

As for JSU, JROCK made a very profound statement on another thread. In a nutshell, he basically said, there is JSU before AAMU came in the SWAC and JSU after AAMU came in the SWAC. The later is no better than AAMU or Bama State as far as the east is concerned....

...of course, this is just one man's opinion :swink:

Dude, that jrock dude said that out of spite and sarcasm. You're saying it based on zero facts. Comegy basically owns AAMU, especially if any of his teams has a .500 or better record.
By the way, AAMU has lost the last six out of seven games to Comegy.

Dude, Alcorn has beaten JSU only like twice or three times in 8 years. Before this year, Comegy walloped Alcorn on a consistent basis. A one year winning streak is nothing much to brag about.
As far as seniors are concerned, Alcorn's been in this position several times with an experienced team and ended up having a worse record with more seniors.

Re: SWAC in 2014

yea, it's very hard to tell right now. For JSU, it's time for us to decide if we wanna be good every year or great every year. We fired Hughes for averaging 7 wins a year over 4 years. Comegy is winning 8 games a year over the same period. What do we do? We will win because that's just what we do. Aside from the **** years, we have only had one losing season in THIRTY years. But we have to still take things up a notch. How do we do that?

But as for your question, I fully expect the EAST to come down to JSU-Alabama State again and the WEST will come down to SU and PV again. I can't see PVs defense being that bad two years in a row. JSU will be losing our QB but Moore was never a Therriault and Ivy should be able to step right in and fill his shoes.

The EAST should certainly be tough again because I fully expect AAMU to do a little bit better and battle Alcorn for the #3 spot in the EAST. The EAST should once again have the top 3-4 teams.

I was kinda cool with what you were saying all the way till that part in Bold.....The top 3-4 teams will be in the East AGAIN.....wow.....So what do these numbers mean to you 08, 09, 10*, 11, 12, 13......seem to tell another story to me....:noidea:

Don't nobody care who a 3rd place team is returning. JSU had to replace a whole D-line this year and we still got to Houston. Get like us first. Sadly, ya'll might beat us again next year if the game means nothing.. and more than likely, the game will mean nothing. I just hope we don't let the same thing happen this time. We need to focus.

Minus Hopson....

Don't flatter yourself... Alcorn's problem has nothing to do with focusing on JSU. The coaching and AD situations we've had the last approx. 8 years was the problem.
