Thanks for sharing. That's over 50% cut in state support. How did the blacks in the state allow this to happen? I'm aware of Jindal and his Libertarian philosophy.

I don't think any of them said anything relevant to that situation or HBCU football going forward.

True.....Southern and Grambling needs to investigate/set up a commission to study closely whether there are disparities in these cuts (overt and covert) in comparison to other state universities and proceed with litigation if so. The state drove S.U. to financial exigency a few short years ago....Jindal is a sick puppy and can't be trusted.

Good luck with that. The funding cuts and their affect on the other colleges in the state have been documented and are readily available.

Let's not let dislike for Jindal cloud our judgment and cause us to spend the few resources we have on wild goose chases. I'm thinking that time and money could be spent in much more productive endeavors.

Yes, it's what is not documented that concerns me. Attempt getting a relevant grant and commission an independent study pro bono to negate any liability to the University. Don't be a sucker.....
 
And some folks busy talking about how prejudiced Mississippi is? Based on the stats, Jindal has done more damage to Black folks than any Mississippi governor over the last 30 years.

All of the schools in LA faced similar cuts. It wasn't just Grambling or just the Black schools

Here is and example:

I occasionally ask this question of my students: have you ever seen Gov. Bobby Jindal on the LSU campus? Their answer, of course, is no.

It’s no wonder. Jindal, having slashed the state’s higher education budget by more than $400 million, shows no interest in explaining his policies or hearing from students and faculty about the impact of decisions that result in cancelled courses, laid-off instructors or higher tuition bills.

I've always said, Black athletes that currently have the spot light on them can make a difference. What if Florida State University Black football players decided to boycott their last games until the State of Florida repeal that stand your grounds law that helped George Zimmerman to go free for killing Travyon Martin?

When Jindal leaves office, the folks that was appointed by Jindal on different boards will probably get booted clean out of the State of Louisiana once their term expires.

The difference being that GSU's boycott was associated with the state budget cuts which directly affected the schools ability to provide for the students. I would see FSU telling those students that this has no impact on what we do at FSU or the way we run our program. You have two options, get on the field or get off my campus.
 
I knew that the disparacy was there before the graph was shown in the video. But I could only :no: when she pulled the graph up showing Les Miles salary versus the GSU budget.

True, which basically says, "we would provide you the national stage to demonstrate your athletic talents, but you must remain silent concerning controversial issues that you believe in or we would pull your Black azz off that stage".
 
So what's next?

The budget is cut...the money is gone. What now? What's being done to improve the conditions and make sure the students don't (continue to) suffer?

I think there were emergency donations to fix and repair some things with more to come. What some people doesn't realize, Grambling and Louisiana Tech have been fortunate to be located in the Louisiana parish (Lincoln Parish) that has the most millionaires per capita. I'm sure the rich folks in that parish are making their donations to help Grambling along. IMO, I think it is the responsibility of the UL System to make sure that the university is operating within its means.

I think they are planning to add a student athletics fee like most other SWAC schools. That will account for a couple million by itself. They received many donations.

I think a MAJOR part of GSU's problem was that the administration did not communicate to alums/students/fans about the budget cuts. Many folks who have made pledges since this incident said they had no idea the funding was cut.

Why does it look like (on the outside looking in) that Southern was better prepared and handled the cuts better?

Basically what I'm thinking...and I'm trying not to...but it seems like Gram had issues prior to the cuts and...once the cuts hit, they couldn't hide anymore and now they are using the cuts as an excuse.

Other schools were hit...but Gram seems to be the worst.

That's because Southern operates its own system with less constraints. Grambling's Administration is stuck between the UL System and its alumni base. Both have a different vision on how the university should be managed. Now that issues have become public, I'm sure the UL System will work with Grambling's Administration and Grambling's alumni to make sure situations doesn't get as bad as it did.
