SU's Tony Clayton strikes again. Wants Grambling out of the Bayou Classic

“I understand the historic nature of playing Grambling ... but having to split the proceeds after having the lion share of the fan base in the Superdome consistently coming from SU, just doesn’t make good economic sense,” Clayton wrote in his email. “The Bayou Classic is a numbers game, and our dear colleagues from north Louisiana just aren’t traveling down I-10 to watch the G-Men.”

Don't worry about the messenger. I don't care anything about that dude. The question is can the BC be better? What are the ways to make it better? Is the lack of leadership at Grambling one of the problems? Despite the messenger, can you at least look at the situation for yourself? Make your own decisions. Rather than rejecting it outright because of who brought it up? That's all I'm saying.

JSU is the only other school that could bring the numbers and it would be possible to move the BC to another weekend which just may be beneficial for the entire conference.

For what it's worth though, the goal may not be to remove Grambling. Just to let them know that there are other viable alternatives available and not to take the BC for granted. Which it seems that they are doing.

There is so much more that can be done.... Again..People are in town the entire weekend.. but choose not to focus on the Game.. Marketing the Game itself is necessary... The problem is attention is placed on other events during the weekend and NOT the game itself. This is the same reason why making a "Classic" into the SU/JSU game would be the death of it.

Again there is more to this than many would understand, including you.. You do realize that there are OTHER events going on while the game is being played right?????

Man they must have at least ran that 'pre-game concert' ad on the radio about 9 times lol..I was like dayum I may have to go and check that out....

Yeah. I've been to the BC several times. But when the product on the field is boring and you can sit at home and watch it on TV after kicking it the night before...why would folks WANT to go to the game? :noidea:

You have it in New Orleans for the other activities besides the game, if that wasn't an important factor...then you can move it to Shreveport (just throwing another City out there). Maybe ya'll need to stop showing it locally (which has been discussed numerous times on TSPN before) and that way you can get people to actually attend the game. :tup:

Bottom line dude, this was the idea of the late Coach Rob and if I am not mistaken the late RWE Jones. The bayou classic is more than just a game. It's a family reunion during Thanksgiving. It's our game, it's our event. It matters to both schools and it's one of the most storied rivalaries in College Football.

So what if one @$$hole sellout is looking at who's not doing what. That's subject to interpretation. Give Tony Clayton enough rope, he will hang himself. (pun intended)

1. does he realize that Grambling spends more money to travel to the Bayou Classic than SU? We have to pay for 3 nights for the band, dance team and support staff, and 2 nights for the football team. plus, we purchase band uniforms for the BOTB. SU decided about 2 years ago for the band to only stay in new Orleans Saturday Night, I don't know if that's still true, but SU has the upper hand already when it comes to cost.
2. where was all this talk before 2012, before broadway left, and while Stump still walked the sidelines of SU, it's like Tony Clayton has been waiting to kick Grambling while it's down. Gramblinites stood with SU, when Jindal tired to merge SUNO with UNO, and our alumni president even said "if they give Grambling 5 million, we need to ask for them to give SU the same thing" We thought we were in this fight together
3. those 1974-1997 numbers were people coming to see Eddie Robinson, and the 2000-2004 numbers were because both teams were winning, both teams need to get back on track for 70k to show up again !

Yeah I do agree.. They should Blackout the game in the New Orleans area... This may help. Also, by No means am I saying Stop all events for the weekend, because this is what makes Bayou Classic what it is.. However, having events right before and DURING the game is just DUMB!!..

I saw some of the videos posted on IG during the game of major label artists performing outside... many people said that was a big reason why some people didn't come inside...
