For some, waiting two years to get a new smartphone is simply too long. However, navigating your carrier's upgrade policies to get your hands on the latest and greatest tech can be costly and hectic. To help simplify the process and avoid making customers drop significant sums all at once, U.S. carriers are introducing new plans to allow customers to get new devices every six months or a year on fixed payment plans.

Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile have all recently announced their new programs, each of which function differently. So how do they compare to each other? And more importantly, does it save you more money than a traditional 2-year contract?

All of them are basically a rip off.... but the Verizon options is the best...... simply because you dont have to pay a down payment and you can upgrade every 6 months.... but you are basically renting the phone..... with Tmobile you have to pay a down payment for your device.

They are a rip off because you never own the phone... you are paying a percentage of the full retail price.... soon as you get to 50% you can upgrade again and start all over as long as the phone is in decent shape......

Yep. You end up paying full retail price for the phone over the course of 2 years or so.

not necessarily.... because with Verizon, you can get a new phone every 6 months..... I see it as basically you are renting phones since it doesnt extend your contract. From what Ive heard, getting phones at 2 year subsidized prices are coming to an end with all carriers soon. Companies are losing too much money selling 2 year contract phones.

that will all change very soon.... I think Sprint is the only company who isnt on board yet..... AT&T, VZW, and Tmobile are changing their upgrade policy.

you dont.... buy the phone at full retail price and you can change as much as you want to. You have to wait because you are buying the phone at 2 year contract pricing. Thats the common sense that most customers dont understand. If you dont want a contract and want to be able to get a phone any time you want... pay the 700 dollars and own the phone outright.
