Fallout From SCG Moving

That is it in a nutshell Frat. Houston will still will face the attendance issues depending on matchups that Bham did. But some of the excuses made for not going to the SCG have been eliminated even by fans of the schools who are in the game.

1.Weather
2. Nothing to do after the game

weather I agree... nothing to do after the game, I disagree.... what are you looking to do. Birmingham has plenty of clubs, bars, malls, museums etc. What do you normally do after a football game? Birmingham has a metro of over a million people, trust me there is going to be SOMETHING for you to do. Ive never heard anyone complain about nothing to do Magic City Classic weekend, its always something going on in Birmingham.

I disagree. Legion Field may not have plush amenities, but I personally don't go to games for plush amenities.

Let JROCK reconcile these things is his mind......Legion Field/Reliant Stadium........mighty hornet/SWAC Fans.....SUn/Rain

 :emlaugh:

True.....every time I went, I had an excellent time. :emlaugh:

It was a unanimous decision. I'm not knocking Houston. I just hope folks got their eyes opened that Bham was not the problem with the SCG.

MH, you are old school like me. We go to games regardless of weather etc. I personally prefer outdoor games over domes anytime. But we all know how folks think. I am sure Bham folks pushing that Dome idea were concerned about the weather. Tailgating can happen as long as you have space around any facility. Most domes screw that up when they are built. But the one thing that Reliant did do, they took tailgating into consideration when it was built since before it was built, the Astrodome never allowed tailgating for some reason.

As Bham being an issue. I personally didn't have an issue because I don't go to games just to party. But I know the younger folks want to get their party on afterwards and I guess the city of Bham if you are not from there or know it well doesn't appeal to those young fans like a New Orleans or Houston or ATL. That's the only complaints most folks have had. Being outside in Dec and nothing to do in Bham. Neither one bothers me.

Well, maybe its just outsiders' perception of B'ham. But we do know that a person's perception is their reality.

but the thing is the SCG is a couple of weeks from Christmas. School is out. How much of the young party crowd is interested in the game then if their school aint involved?

How much do they charge for parking at Reliant Stadium? Is there alternate parking in the area?

Parking fees vary dependent upon the event.

Yes, there are alternate parking with several surface lots in close proximity to the complex. Metro has a light rail Park-N-Ride lot just 3/4 a mile south from Reliant as does the Texas Medical Center with a huge parking lot just north of Reliant. Not to mention the parking lots to your immediate west of Reliant where the Methodist Practice Bubble is located.

If done right they would come. When SU use to go to the Heritage Bowl, SU students and other young folks went to ATL by the boat load. It was even better for us that school was out.

SU has 2 times the fans in Houston than GSU.

I remember back in the day Gram use to play in The Space City Classic in Houston. I also remember traveling to Houston back in the day when S.U. played and they were good crowds too. We use to play sometimes at Robertson or Rice stadiums. I believe a championship game with Gram or S.U. would be decent.....We'll see.

I don't disagree with you Dahill. The problem is the Bama school fans know Bham better than the rest of us. Secondly I am sure during the MCC there are parties and clubbing galore because of the large of amount of folks who flood Bham for that weekend. So that can't be compared to what Bham and the nightlife does for the SCG. Them folks in Bham are already preparing for yall's game. It is a must be at event and the city and businesses understand that. Just a different vibe. Most of us not from the Alabama area do not readily think of Bham as that Sexy city. No different than folks think of Baton Rouge or Jackson being any different. Folks who have not even been to Houston will automatically assume that a city that large has plenty of things to do. Bham just don't grab the casual fan of our schools that way. If it was Atlanta, no one would have been saying isht. LOL.

Different day and time. I think you would agree that a whole lot has changed in the last 15 years or so. Heck, when I was in school, students actually went to games. Now, I guess they have too much going on for a game. LOL

MH, stop being so negative dude. Houston is a party city much like Atlanta so the young adults will be ready. Also, HBCU games are not surviving off of young party crowd dollars. If the CIAA had to depend on young folks dollars, it would fold. The age group who will spend money and attend the games is older than that. ..and again, some of us just need to stop being so lazy. I KNOW if we had a game in ATL, I would have a huge entourage of friends. My entourages in Bham in 2007, 2008 and 2012 were mainly people who didn't go to JSU. I generally have about 20 people in my party and only 2-3 of us went to JSU. My party typically consists of people from UAPB, Del State, Alcorn, A&T, USM, and Howard grads or those who went JUCO. When I get to Houston, I got a few Alcorn and USM folks who I am sure gonna be happy to ride out to the game with me 'cause that's how I do. :-)

Let's pray that JSU makes it this year. .. a PV vs JSU match-up would be ideal. :)

That is true. But I am talking about the folks who school is involved. Maybe that will entice them to attend the game. I don't think even the SU students were coming like talking about to the SCG that we participated in. Maybe in 99. But I remember seeing more alums and fans of the program. If we were to play in Houston. I think our students would readily come more than they would in Bham. They would have no excuses to throw out there. Like I said, for some schools it is not a bad thing being in Houston. The La schools definitely can't complain about the move. That's for sure. I would imagine the Pine Bluff folks are happy too. Just looking at distance to travel, not worrying about weather, bigger city with that more things to do perception. Not to mention, alot of folks got people in Houston.

....The MCC changes Birmingham its not on that level any other weekend or event.......

Fixed it for you. And it is growing. LOL. I think more Gram alums are in Dallas than Houston.

SU, GSU, PV and TxSo should be good for 20-25K fans in Houston. UAPB is father but I think they would represent too. It's gonna be hard on the BAMA's and JSU tho. Valley and Alcorn not going anyway so they are non-factors.

This I do agree with MH. These kids today be on some other isht. LOL. TP is right (did I just say that). We can't depend on them for attendance. But hopefully they will decide to come out more than they have been. But I do think Houston will appeal to even the older fans who want to get out and about in the big city during that weekend as well as go to the game. It will be interesting to see.

I am still waiting to see what the ACTUAL deal is between the Houston Sports Authority and the SWAC. JR wants to see the financials. LOL.
