I know that, and it's not what I expect when I go to a college game. I was making the point that it's a lot more than "Houston don't support PV and TSU". The "high school stadium" that some people refused to go to was probably the best PV-TSU game (atmosphere-wise) in the last 20 years, and people didn't have to break the bank for it. Contrast that with Reliant, where you pay $15 to park, $30 for a ticket, and $20 for nachos and a beer. One person done spent $65 before they even get to their seat (and that don't count hair cut/do and outfit + pre-game liquor...LOL). THAT is why that game has dwindled in attendance...Once the economy started slowing down, folks started getting a lot more picky with their $65.

That is why I said earlier, if they use the same formula for the SCG as they do for PV-TSU, then expect similar results in attendance for that game. Don't have nothing to do with support. Has everything to do with the dollars making sense.
:smh:

The fans of the two participating institutions will drive the attendance numbers just as they did in B'ham. I can't imagine Bama State fans returning to Houston twice in a season. That 15 hr drive is too much.

Thats why it needs to be centralized. :smh:

I've said it several times before and I'll go on record again...

I wish the game was centrally located.

But as usual, the conference is in a no win situation with all the bitching & moaning some people are doing.

Furthermore, I can assure you the conference is NOT relying on Texas Southern nor Prairie View alumni/fans to help with attendance of this game just because it's in Houston.

As long as they do azz backwards stuff I'm going to kick up dust . :) I mean I like going to Houston, but it's just not right. How is this any different than Bham besides the dome.

I agree with this. I will say that Houston is a more attractive city than Bham, but will suffer the same fate being that it's at the opposite end of the conference.

truth.com.

I'm gonna' open me up a museum out in the woods that'll act like a tourist attraction for those SWAC fans wanting to get their civil rights on. Also, I'll be planning a tour through Vidor, Splendor, and Huffman for those who want to see real-live klansmen (plural) in their natural habitat. :D

not really...for the championship game folks will spend dollars to see their teams because that's it...the same problems we think of about reliant won't matter to the SU fan who wants to see their team in the championship game. The key is getting that casual fan excited and by it being in Houston there are more casual HBCU fans than Birmingham so at least you got a start.

Fans will go to Reliant for high school games and pay the same so the key is hoping you get that right matchup like SCG Part I

Yeah, but TBF, for that same price, you get AT LEAST 3 games. LOL

its not about SU, our fans coming regardless. Ain't no casual fans coming to no game in Houston. To many things going on. In Jackson like I said, it's the only show in town. You would get media coverage. Nada in Houston. :smh:

Basically the SWAC missed again. Nothing wrong with Houston but the numbers wont add up. Might just be worse than Birmingham in football, we will se though.

ain't as much as yall think in December as everything turns into indoor events :emlaugh:

High School playoffs will be three to four rounds deep so most of the schools will be eliminated....if its packaged right, it can be "the event" during that time period

but again, a one game title, fans don't care what they'll pay (reasonably) if they want to see their team.

As for the SWAC Hoops tourney...it was at TSU and drew real well as they beat SU the first time it was there in a 9 p.m. championship game..lol

Now your getting the freaking Toyota Center and Reliant Stadium....damn

This is college football. Fans will have to get out of this "something for cheap" mode if we are going to move forward.

I don't disagree. But I talk to lots of these "casual fans" who WOULD attend games. I'm not saying they should all be Delmar cheap, but sheesh....You think UH charged $15 to park or $30+ for tickets? They consistently draw the magical 30,000/gm.

When was the tourney at TSU?

This game should have been in either Houston or New Orleans from the start. At least weather shouldn't be a factor during the game. Even the SEC play their championship game indoors (Georgia Dome).

One game.

Bs the crowd was horrible. That SU team was ranked #23 during the season. Bobby Phills senior year. Remember tsu winning on some bs call. The Toyota Center is waaaayyyyyyyyyyy to big. It's going to look horrible on TV.

It was in the H&PE back in 1991 thru 1993 I believe.

Thanks...I figured it had to be about 20 years ago. Truth be told, TSU has a good venue for the tourney...better suited for our needs than Toyota Center, but obviously with less amenities. BBVA is also a better venue for our product, but has the disadvantage of being outdoors. I am on the fence about this whole thing. I love my city and am glad the championships will be here, but will wait for more details to emerge. TBF, you are right, it COULD be.....but in Houston, a LOT of things COULD be that rarely are.

I appreciate your honesty

Like I said in this discussion (and even going back several years).....In my opinion, Houston > Bham in terms of ability to host an "event"....but both face similar obstacles in hosting events for THIS conference. As for TSU hosting, I even said earlier that it must have been 20 years ago. We ALL know how much has changed in 20 years.
