AAMU looking for a new head band director


Well, word has it that their are some interesting candidates applying for the position......I know of two so far.......Mr. Wright who is the head band director at Minor High School in the sub-burbs of Birmingham is applying for the job.....Mr. Wright attends my father's church and my father told me today that Mr. Wright is applying.....In addition, Mr. Wright also mentioned that McDonald who is the acting (interim) band director at Tennessee State University is also applying.....Mr. McDonald who use to be the band director at Southwest Dekalb years ago was hired at TnSU as an assistant, and then became the acting band director at TnSU when Prof. Edward Graves became ill.....Most people and myself thought Prof. Graves ( head director at TSU) was or had retired, but word has it from Mr. Wright that Prof. Graves is returning to TnSU...... sigh........ after Mr. McDonald was doing so well at TnSU......I would hate to see hime leave to go to AAMU......but business is business.

those are two of the names that Ive heard have already interviewed. I loved what McDonald did when TSU stepping in as acting. Also Minor is one of the best sounding bands in the state and Mr. Wright is MMW alumni. I also thought Graves had hung it up, but we all know that older directors have a very hard time giving it up. Graves hasnt led a TSU band in about 2 years due to health reasons. This years edition of TSU was SUPER NICE under McDonald. That DR. in front of his name just may get him the job.
 
I'm hearing a couple of folks with SU ties are interested in the position.

Was Mr. Wright at litchfield before minor if so he's a solid guy. McDonald being MMH would be interesting.

He was at Carver High before he was at Minor.... soon as he left Carver's band went downhill.... I believe he won a national highstepping championship while at Carver.

Bamasax you may be thinking of Mark Hatten. He also played trumpet in the MMW but he is much younger than Carlton Wright. I think Mark graduated from A&M around 98 or 99. Carlton Wright was the band director at Fairfield High School back in the late 80s and early 90s and he graduated from A&M in the early to mid 80s
 
Yeah, TNState was nice last year. At Honda, people raved about A&T. I thought A&T was pretty bad actually but TNState was very creative and executed well.
 
What is even funnier is you all are from a state that is last in education. Number one in obesity. Just got slavery off the books in 2013. Just got running water in 80% of the state in 2000. Grew up throwing piss and mess in a bucket out the door. Number one in welfare. yeah that's funny. Gotta love that great state of nothing called Sippi......
