Atlanta dubbed 'Most Redneck' city in United States

Published: May 13, 2013 at 5:29 PM

SAN MATEO, Calif., May 13 (UPI) -- A California real estate brokerage firm dubbed Atlanta the "Most Redneck" U.S. city, using criteria such as the number of NASCAR tracks and Walmarts.

Movoto, based in San Mateo, said its criteria also included the number of gun and ammo stores, taxidermists, cowboy boot stores and country radio stations, and the percentage of the population who haven't completed high school to rank the 10 "Most Redneck" U.S. cities, ABC News reported Monday.

Atlanta was first on the list, followed by Kansas City, Mo.; Oklahoma City; Nashville; Tulsa, Okla.; Fort Worth, Texas; Arlington, Texas; Sacramento; Cleveland; and Mesa, Ariz.

The Movoto posting has resulted in several angry comments from those who took exception to the "Redneck" label. (probably from folks on TSPN) :emlaugh:

Bama hate never goes away. Well as we say in the great state of Georgia, "Thank God for Alabama. As long as it exist, we shall never be last in anything....." :emlaugh:

You're certainly not last in rednecks. :emlaugh:

It sounds like Atlanta is the perfect place for those redneck folks in Forsyth County. They can take a short drive to Atlanta with their weekly wildlife kill, have the bodies or heads of their weekly kill stuffed and mounted on a plaque, buy more ammo for next week’s hunting, take in a good NASCAR race, listen to Hank Williams, Jr. and Charlie Pride on the radio, shop at one of the many Wal-Marts for something to wear on Sunday, get hit on by a sissified brother wearing a tutu that marches and twirls a baton in downtown Atlanta, watch ratchet mothers with their babies get tazed by a Rent-A-Cop for acting a fool at the Flea Market, and last but not least, get your azz whipped for starting a fight because the funky chickens lost another game. Seems like rednecks in and around Atlanta are entertained well.

Here are a few sites and sounds from the ATL:

I believe this movie was filmed somewhere in Georgia. I'm sure a lot money was saved filming this movie since the production company didn't have to go far to find people to play background parts.

While y'all raging on the Mecca and Kingdom of King, don't forget that In The Heat of the Night television series was filmed in Covington Georgia. :emlaugh:

Uh uh, that movie was filmed in the backwoods of North Carolina....that movie kinda messed me up mentally...thanks to this movie and that boy with that banjo, you ain't gonna ever see this brother go canoe riding or camping in some wilderness in N.C., Alabama, or Ga...neva...LOL

Four Atlanta businessmen, Lewis (Burt Reynolds), Ed (Jon Voight), Bobby (Ned Beatty) and Drew (Ronny Cox), decide to canoe down a river in the remote northern Georgia wilderness, expecting to have fun and see the glory of nature before the fictional Cahulawassee River valley is flooded by the construction of a dam. Lewis, an experienced outdoorsman, is the leader. Ed is also a veteran of several trips but lacks Lewis's machismo. Bobby and Drew are novices.

Deliverance was shot in the Tallulah Gorge southeast of Clayton, Georgia and on the Chattooga River, which divides the northeastern corner of the state of Georgia from the northwestern corner of the state of South Carolina. Additional scenes were shot as well in Salem, South Carolina and Sylva, North Carolina. A scene was also shot at the Mount Carmel Baptist Church cemetery, which now lies 130 feet under the surface of Lake Jocassee, on the border between Oconee County and Pickens County South Carolina.

I do believe the Chattoogna River flows in the same basin that feeds Atlanta's main water supply located in Forsyth and Hall Counties aka Lake Lanier.

I'm sure a lot folks in Georgia were thrilled that Howard Rollins spent a lot of his leisure time there dressed in drag before his sudden death.

Here's another reason why Atlanta and Georgia is the No. 1 place for rednecks:  :emlaugh:

The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence has filed a lawsuit against the small rural town of Nelson, Georgia. Nelson officials recently passed a bill requiring the head of every household to have a gun and ammunition. Violators could be fined up to $1,000, which is significantly less than the cost of a new handgun and a box of ammo.

Nelson is a city partly (0.631 sq mi) in Pickens and mostly (0.792 sq mi) in Cherokee counties in the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1314. It appears in the Atlanta metropolitan area.

I had to post this. I didn't know Atlanta had brass bands. I really liked how they sounded up until the 2:24 minute mark. After seeing what I just saw, I would hate to participate in one of Atlanta's Second Line parades. :emlaugh:

That must be the Atlanta City Hall Pep band. Not a single person buck jumping with an umbrella out there.

I guess being born and living in these other southern states make you hate and feel like this. Po yall must be hard living and growing up in third world states. Guess all them trips throwing piss out in a bucket and drawing well water gets to your brain.....

I love ATL, one thing I've notice about the city is that people are willing to come together to make a dollar. Y'all dont discriminate but would rather live in separate locations.
