SU Tennis Team Sweeps all conference team Wow

so what u JSU'ers are saying is......It took the State of LA to try n take SU down?......Seems like everybody is banking on budget cuts at SU to get ahead......sad day in the south

To answer the question. We no longer have a men's tennis team. Not saying they weren't beating down the SWAC but the program had to be cut because of Title IX concerns. We had too many men's sports compared to female sports, in addition to budget cuts.

those days are long over...the Texas neglect allowed that but once Texas schools came back into the fold things have changed next door

With more budget cuts looming over there and a surplus here, what else can Louisiana cut?

Dude, you need to worry about if PV will be able to pay your basketball coach and not let TxSU or someone take her. Not to mention it ain't looking that great for yall in other sports. SU ain't afraid and Big Worm is going to kick yall's arse this year. It ain't all about Texas like you think. You act like the rest of the SWAC needs to fear Texas or something. Those kids still ain't loading up and coming to either Texas SWAC school like talking about. The State of Texas is rich. But it ain't passing down to everybody. Build a stadium and get a full time AD before addressing us again. LOL. Where is P88 when you need him.

All it takes is good coaching to beat yall. Ain't like yall loaded at either school to the point that neither La school or Ms School or Bama school can kick yall's arse consistently. Sheesh.

I would say S.U. football woes started in 2005 with population issues in New Orleans due to the storm and magnified with a bad hire of Stump Mitchell. I'm pretty sure that the state of Texas had nothing to do with it. But in spite of the little you have achieved with any economic issue that involves Louisiana or any other state, the fact remains in the two largest revenue sports Texas hasn't produced but 1 football championship, 1 NCAA Tourney bid in years (see above). The Commissioner Cups signifies athletic excellence and the state of Texas has only one of those since it's inception. That tells me sure you all have isolated wins, but as a rule of thumb, your overall athletic departments are still consistently inferior. I agree Texas is slightly more competitive here and there compared to in the past. Since 2000 here is what the facts show relating to athletic department (Commissioner Cup Championships) superiority:

Louisiana 6
Mississippi 5
Texas 1

LOL @ Jrock

At the rate Grambling sports and su sports are headed, Louisiana won't be getting a cup for quite sometime.

Now getting back to your tennis post. Does su have a men's tennis team?

Really? Can't speak for Gram. But you really think SU sports is on a decline right now? Seriously?

I live here bruh. I know that surplus is smoke and mirrors.

And it is not passing down to his school anyway. Texas could be sitting on piles of money and that helps at nothing athletically. You can pay whatever you want to a coach. Just like they are overpaying Heish. Good guy and all. But his salary was not called for. Oh well. Sam Houston State don't pay their coach that much. Nor their AD.

Must you be so cruel? :emlaugh:

JR, what I'm saying is that su won't recapture commissioner cups with such ease like it did in the past. Other schools have caught up to yall and are passing you by. Look at Valley.
su just happened to have one decent year in basketball, eventhough Texas Southern had the best team in the SWAC.
Up til now, basketball is the ONLY sport you can stick your chest out about so far this year....oh and women's tennis.:emlaugh:
A 4-7 football team is missing the mark by a long shot.
Your baseball team is currently in third place. All you have to really crow about so far is men's basketball....oh and women's tennis.

And what does JSU have to stick their chest out about? IJS.

And saying TXSU had the best team in basketball is not exactly set in stone. We split games. They won on their home floor and we won on ours. We were one game behind them in the regular season this year. So who knows what would have happened on a neutral court. That's not taking nothing from them. But it wasn't like they were so much better than SU or we lucked up to win this year.

These jsu fans are still salty about Southern University Running Gunning Jags sending Lindsey Hunter to the NIT his senior year. They will never be able to be objective and always embellish to compensate. That is pretty much up there with S.U. capturing the very first SCG from them and Walter Payton being denied the end-zone 3 times from the goal line which denied them a share of the SWAC crown in 74 his senior year. :smh:  :emlaugh:

What's the big deal?

Wasn't SU's men tennis team canceled a couple of years back as a result of budget cuts along with golf.

Meanwhile congrats to Xavier's women tennis for being ranked #1 NAIA. Of course someone should do a spell ck on TSPNS front page on the spelling of Xavier.

JR, you left out su's football record during your intelligent diatribe. As far as basketball teams, Texas Southern was better than su. The only sport su has won outright so far this year is women's tennis. Congrats again on that.

Again reading is fundamental. We split games with TxSU in basketball. Ain't our fault they could not play in the tourney. We are SWAC Tourney Champs period. If TxSU was in any other conference they would have been ineligible for the regular season title as well. But that is another story. Had Someone else won the regular season title they could have gone to the NIT and we would have had two teams in post season.

You keep harping only on football. You said SPORTS. You should really keep quiet about that sport since you lost the SCG the way you did. Not to mention losing to us had to hurt. Don't worry we will continue your pain next fall Jayrob. You really gone be cussing SU. LOL.

So with that surplus, will PV be able to build something better than that poor excuse for a middle school football stadium? I mean while you are so worried about our sports program, you should be more concerned about why that big Texas $$$$ hasn't helped PV do anything for their horrible football facilities.

If you look real hard on the Internet you'll find the plans for a $40 million dollar rec center and the athletic facilities plan that was voted on recently at PV. Yes, you'll see the shiny pictures soon but the coaches here won with little, so just imagine them having something. Plus, the new AD will be on board and folks are sweating bullets hoping PV doesn't hire an AD who'll come in with a kick ass rolodex :emlaugh:

If Wilson is wanted by someone else, that's progress as the last coach we had moved on and lo and behold she's at USC with a Prairie View A&M degree. That's what you aspire at this level, not committing more financially and then shoving them out the door after 3 losing seasons with a new contract.

Texas is good to us.....but don't act like if you cut Texas off from us we will drop dead........Pay attention......our Focus is back on Louisiana.....We have just as much talent here as we was getting from TX

You know damn well USC could care less if Cooper's degree was from PV or U of Phoenix. In their eyes she is a Trojan and only a Trojan. LOL. Look how they threw yall under the bus in her bio. At least they list PV as where she got her bachelor's degree.

Cooper-Dyke was able to have such success at Prairie View, like Texas Southern a historically black college that faces financial and recruiting hurdles, despite having to endure NCAA sanctions her last 2 years that included scholarship reductions and probation. The program was penalized for violations that occurred during Cooper-Dykes' first season, but the NCAA said those violations were the result of the school's failure to educate her about NCAA rules.

It is going to be harder for your Football coach if he don't get some help sooner than later or you will be hiring a new one sooner. Your facilities are good enough for basketball so all you need is a decent coach. But football is a different animal. Not every coach can win THESE days with no facilities. Your bigger problem is what TxSU is doing. If them mofos had a fan base that really showed themselves and raised hell to win like C-leb and his friends do they would kick a lot of folks to sleep constantly. The first thing needs to happen is to stop overpaying coaches. Heish makes more than the Sam Houston AD and their coach. So does most of the SWAC.

I ain't going to comment on the proposed facility yall are going to build. I will let P88 expound on that. I am going to take the high road.:hat:
