GOAT FARM!
Old stories for JSU people.
Just putting it here. Have fun.

Brent, Jackson State pick up two commitments...............Provine star Thompson, Todd of Illinois plan to sign with Tigers
Wayne Brent has been on his job as Jackson State men’s basketball coach for just a week.

Seven days in, Brent has picked up his first two verbal commitments: one from right at home and another from the suburbs of Chicago.

Donta Robinson, a 6-foot-4 forward from Provine, and Marquis Todd, a 6-foot- 9 power forward/center from T.F. North (Ill.) High School, committed to the Tigers after visiting over the weekend.

“To be honest, I made up my mind when coach Brent got the job,” said Robinson. “He is a good coach, and he helps players. He is known for winning and is just a good person.”

Robinson was a second-team All-Metro selection after averaging 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists to help lead the Rams to the Class 5A state title game.

He chose JSU over Alcorn, Mississippi Valley State, Tougaloo, New Orleans and Alabama A&M.

Brent adds Dandy Dozen star to Jackson State's haul

It’s been six years since Jackson State last signed a player off The Clarion-Ledger’s Dandy Dozen straight out of high school.

Callaway Dandy Dozen forward TreShawn Bolden plans to change that.

Bolden committed to Jackson State on Thursday with plans to play for his high school coach Wayne Brent, who continues to reel in recruits in just his second week as the Tigers’ new coach.

“Coach Brent was my head coach for high school so why not go play for him?” said Bolden. “I had my mind set once he got the job. He has passion for basketball, he’s a caring guy and he’s all about success.”

The 6-foot-8 Bolden also had scholarship offers from Auburn, Louisiana Tech, Tennessee State, Illinois State and Western Kentucky.

I like that kid. He can get even better. Po Auburn. LOL.

Looks like he is putting in work!

He will do that. Good X and O's guy too. I think that is his best attribute. These new recruits will serve some notice to the kids already there at JSU. Especially the ones who ain't disciplined. Brent ain't going to play that.

Will be interesting to see what Riley continues to do at Alcorn as far as recruiting.

Yep. He's bringing in a lot of those local players we always miss out on. Guys that usually end up at SELA, Murray State and the like. And I like to 2 big men, especially Bolden. We need someone to work with them tho.

We got a real baller in that kid.
That kid can flat out play around the rim. Great shooting touch.
Whole package.

Any word on who will replace Brent at Callaway? Can't have my school falling apart because of you JSU mofos taking Brent away. LOL.

brent don't have much to do in that area. T-Vest did a good overall job of handling attitudes and weeding out nutcases on the team.

 Callaway is gonna be alright.
They got to hire the right coach to keep Malik in the fold. I think his father has convinced him to wait and see who Callaway select as coach before they make the final decision on if he will be transferring to one of those "Prep Basketball Factories" for next year. His parents want him to remain at Callaway but they have always said it's his decision as long as he take care of business on and off the court.

They still going through the resume process. They have not released any names officially yet.

You can kiss Malik Newman goodbye lol. Mario Kegler is just as good tho, maybe better.

They holding out hope though. It would be nice if he decided to stay a Callaway. They got a really good squad comming back next year with or without him.

True, problem is the kid has won 2 state titles and been named Mr. Basketball already. He's done everything you can do in this state.

Yep.
Only thing left is a Dandy Dozen Selection but that won't come until after his Jr. year if he stay at Callaway this year.

Both Alcorn and JSU have signed high school coaches to lead their respective basketball programs.
This is going to be very interesting.
TSU has a proven big time college coach who won the SWAC conference his first year.
SU has a former college assistant who won the SWAC Tournament and represented bi time at the NCAA tournament.
MVSU just lost their coach to Murray State.

Either these guys have demonstrated tremendous upside or high school basketball in MS. is a step above the rest of the country.

Funny part about that is Luther Riley moved up to the Head Coaching position at Provine when Wayne Brent left Provine for Ole Miss after that State Championship season in the late 1990's. I think it was 1998.

I've heard that Lanier girl's basketball coach Jonas James will be announced this week as Callaway's new coach.

You have to pick the best coach for your situation. TxSou was fortunate to have a Mike Davis available. Riley has been a great improvement on Alcorn's previous coach (who himself had a vast amount of pro experience). We will see if he can take that next step or if they remain mediocre. Wayne Brent has 6 years as a college assistant in addition to his High School success.

...in addition to quality AAU contacts across the nation.

I would love to see what he and Kegler can do together next year. But you're right. he has nothing else to prove in the State. Except solidifying himself as the best ever to come out of MS- above Chris Jackson (Mahmoud Abdul-Raouf) and Monta Ellis.

Not even close.

I like the moves J-State...

Lets get some new blood coaching, recruit better and hopefully in 2-3 years we'll have 2-3 teams in the NCAA Tournament
