Cooper to USC?

U of H is much bigger than ULL. In the 4th largest city in America. No way should they even pay less than ULL. Lol.

Understood but women's basketball isnt a priority at most schools either, so I could see how that could happen.

Well they are paying the guy 180K at U of H to coach Women's basketball and they hired him at that salary in 2010. So all I was asking the TxSU crew were they paying Cooper more than 180K since she would have to take a pay cut to coach at U of H IF they had approached her. 180K ain't bad money to coach a non traditional power in basketball like U of H women. But it sounds like TxSU is paying Coop more than 180K which is more than what SWAC Men coaches are making. Hell only a select few football coaches in the SWAC make over 180K.

Actually looking at what they are paying that dude 180K who is not winning isht at U of H. Cooper probably could get 200K out of them or a little more.

It's all public information ($190K) and someone posted it around here when she first got the job.

That is some good damn money. LOL. She makes more than most of the football coaches in the SWAC. Now I understand why yall said she would have to take a pay cut to coach U of H. She probably could get 200K out of them though. I wonder what the USC job pays. You need 200K just to survive in L.A. lol. So I would imagine the USC job has to be at least 400K or more.

Exactly. The cost of living is so much higher, that 400000, might not afford her the lifestyle she is currently living.

True! They would have to pay her some serious money to live like she is living now. Plus give her a housing allowance etc. just to make it there. I don't blame her for being hesitant about leaving Texas. Just shocked no bigger Texas program has tried to lure her away. But she ain't going to come cheap.

Serious question...........what's the return on an investment like that? $190K is some serious cheese for women's bball in the SWAC. What's the financial gains of being the regular season champs in SWAC Women's BBall?

There is a market for good women basketball in Houston. Even though it still is nothing to write home about, attendance probably tripled last year. People in the seats not only provide ticket revenue, it attracts sponsor dollars.

I disagree. Houston couldn't even keep a WNBA franchise; and they were a dynasty. I never remember Rice, tsu or uh ever being popular when it comes to women's basketball;even during UH's chandi jones years. I've said it before and I'll say it again....Houston just isn't a sports town. Women's Basketball isn't even on the radar for most Houstonians.

I always wondered why that was too. All the talent that comes out of Houston, you would think folks would be more interested. Maybe that's why U of H is not trying to bring a name coach for Men's or Women's basketball. But yeah that is a lot of cheddar to pay. At least TxSU will not have to worry about gender equity when it comes to their coaches. LOL. Cooper got a good gig there. I doubt if PV or that school in North Carolina was paying that kind of money. She didn't make that kind of money playing the WNBA.

Charles must be making at least 200K as AD. I will give TxSU this. They shole do pay. TBF was right about that.

Personally, I don't want PV paying ANY coach (football included) that kind of money to compete in the SWAC. Its a waste. Coop is making more money than Sam Houston's football coach but atleast they've gone to the national championship. I'm not knocking her hustle though. We all gotta eat.

I know good in hell well we wasn't....and we ain't......LOL. Yes, sTu does pay, and good for them as long as you don't begin to see a negative return on your investment.

Who said anything about just competing in the SWAC? It is exactly that kind of mindset that has harmed the less heralded programs in the conference. In order to do better we're going to have to get out of our comfort zones and think outside of the box. More money may not be the answer, but we sure do know less money is definitely not the answer.

WWP, no one does and that's what I somewhat was alluding to. My overall point is that the aim of the athletic department is to compete outside of the SWAC. By pouring more money into the program we're looking for that return on investment you were talking about. Go back and look at what I typed at first to see my edited remarks.

Bruh, we all robbin' Peter to pay Paul. We don't have the overall resources that it takes to athletically compete consistently outside of other HBCU's. It takes a helluva lot more than just paying a few coaches more money.

Come on Storm96, you know I'm talking about those long stretch of OOC games everyone plays until they enter into conference play.

And winning all of those will get a SWAC school a what...a 15 seed instead of a 16? I understand being competitive out of conference but at the end of the day, you can only control what you can. It would have to take the entire conference upgrading and I don't see that happening anytime soon.

one would think that we would've learned this from seeing that SWAC football is likely near the top in head coaching salaries in the FCS but at the bottom when it comes to actually competing.

Point taken, but let me ask you are we still talking about basketball? If we are, then take into consideration there many D1 schools we could compete with by just adding sufficient resources. I'm not talking about the Baylors, UConns and Notre Dames of the women's basketball world,......I'm talking about the Southland Conference and Colonial Athletic Association types.

Point well taken, but Storm we're talking about just competing better oustide the SWAC for now. One small step at a time, and lets see where that takes us.
