The FBS Football Playoff Debate Continues
By DeKendric Stamps on March 28, 2013

The words opportunity and accessibility stuck out to me after listening to comments made by SWAC Commissioner Duer Sharp during a recent interview from this year’s conference basketball tournament in Garland, Texas.

If Sharp is so big on giving the conference an opportunity, why not give the conference an opportunity to participate in the FCS playoffs?

Not only will that give each university accessibility to market their brands but will give their students athletics accessibility to a playoff experience.

It would, if we really get serious and put resources into it. And not put a D-2 product out there that is not able to compete.

MEAC proves your point every year. Gets beat like drum and a'int earned an extra dime. I don't see respect for those already participating in the playoff. Who won the Championship in 2012-13. FCS really not a lofty goal for anybody.

Watch it Cat. Folks will say you scared of competition and we think like the old school alums. LOL. Nobody sees that in the grand scheme of things, everyone wants to be FBS. They talk all that isht. But it is a reason some schools left FCS/1AA and some are doing it now. Now I do think we can do better. Much better. But you make a good point. The playoffs have not helped the MEAC really in the big picture and even Tn State being in a progressive OVC has not done anything. We don't have a plan on how to win big at the FCS level, no money to move to FBS. So what we should be challenging our leaders on is what are we doing internally to make our athletic programs competitive on the current level we participate. We have to play those teams in the regular seasons and not wait until the playoffs come and think we can just walk into them and win without playing teams of that caliber. Which brings us back to us playing that stupid 9 game mandate which keeps us from scheduling those types of teams regularly and of course the SCG and dates of a couple of Classics keeps us out of the automatic FCS playoff bid process.

Just waste money saying we FCS football but don't participate in nothing but ham bone HBCU classics. That is all people want and have faught until we got it. Stop talking about FCS and SWAC in the same breath. We would be better off dropping to club status in Football and save all this money on D1 FCS football facilities. :smh:

These excuses and "examples" of why we should not get funnier and funnier with each wasted playoff thread.

The schools that have gone FBS actually spent time working on it for at least a decade while we stood here making excuses for sorry azz football conference wide.

Ask 99.9% of the college football world "Who won the SWAC" and they would ask "What the hell is that.........They division 8 or something."

If anybody is truly that upset about where the conference is they have several options at their the disposal, the least of which is petition their school to leave the conference or simply stop supporting the school or the conference in any shape form or fashion.

This constant whining about not participating in the playoffs every year is old as dirt and tired as a Hebrew slave.

This is why I say don't make these threads anymore and don't say FCS Playoffs and SWAC in the same breath. I knew it would not be long before the "leave" talk started. It's either you agree with "the playoffs are baaaaaaaaaaad" or "You can leave if you don't say the playoffs are baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad."

Drop this mess down to club status and we can finish where Georgia State football started just a few years ago. At CLUB Status.

True, It's not like anyone has a gun to their president's head or water-boarding them to remain the the SWAC. If we can get 2 or 3 schools to leave the SWAC the 9 game mandate would disappear then we could schedule 2 or 3 more non conference foes during the regular season. :emlaugh:

Those same people would say the same thing about who won the FCS national title.

So why even start these threads. :noidea:

The non-playoff, pig foot classic crowd won back in 2000.
When these threads start, close them. We all know the SWAC ain't gonna do shat except TALK a good game about who OOC azz outside the conference they will kick.

We also know the SWAC ain't gonna do shat except talk when it comes to stop living in the past. Blah, Blah, Blah. Ain't nobody on the Pro-Playoff side even taking this shat serious anymore so ya'll can kill all the "they can leave" shat............as if that would actually be a bad thing if anybody did. This mess is joke status now. Just wait til fall, wolf and wolf about who gonna be king of the last or next to last place conference in the Nation.

Probably.
But one thing is for damm sure, I'll bet if mofo's handed out invites to a FCS school to join a FBS conference, a playoff run and NC on their resume will carry a hell of a lot more weight than that Big Ole SCG Championship will.

I guess you must have miss the fact the the have been serval FBS invites in recent years and not one damn MEAC school was invited.

Hell even when FAMU attempted their fail move and there wasn't one invite extended to them and their intention were known a couple of years ahead.

Maybe the real question here should be why are you making isht up then batching about your fairy tale?

Oh and FYI this thread isn't about the FCS playoffs.

I said A PLAYOFF RUN AND A NC ON THEIR RESUME WOULD LOOK BETTER THAN THAT BIG OLE SCG CHAMPIONSHIP IF INVITES ARE HANDED OUT. Ya'll kill me with this half reading and "putting words" in peoples mouths.

And you know damm well FAMU was about as ready to move up to FBS football as some Pee-Wee league team in Jackson was. They didn't have the facilities, budget, backing...........nothing. They had not even LOOKED at a conference to join. Heck in their first year of running to FBS like someone had a gun pointed to their heads, the state of Florida came up with all kinds of shat wrong down there. Millions missing out the athletic budget and tripple digit infractions in the athletic dept. Don't even try to use FAMU as no kind of example for FCS or HBCU's moving up and getting a invite.

Now tell me where did I make shat up. :noidea:
You the only one that bought up the worst example of a FBS move in the history of FBS moves, FAMU, to try to prove some point with me.

I just made a comment AFTER YOU NON PLAYOFF mofos started with that "they gonna come in talking about we scared of competition" before anyone had a chance to even read the thread post. The only ones here byotching is you and your friends. This shat is a joke to me and I told ya'll I don't GAS back when ya'll cheered playing all 9 SWAC schools again.

I don't care if I ever see another FCS, playoff thread here again. Ya'll the only ones that act like ya'll are the only ones that can speak on anything FCS, SWAC, or playoffs anyway so knock yourself out but don't try to lie on me and not expect me to throw it back in your face. FAMU..........Negro Please.

Frat no matter how you look at it. In the grand scheme of things is nobody cares about the FCS football level. That's what I am saying. Everybody wants to be FBS. Not everybody can be of course. But there is no prestige being the FCS champion other than beating your chest either about beating teams on the FCS level. The average person only cares who won the FBS title. Even grads of FCS schools align themselves with their state FBS programs like they went there. That's why certain schools have made plans to leave FCS for FBS.

I am not saying not to play them folks. But as I have said, you can't just move dates around/cancel the SCG to get the auto bid and think that's all we need to do as a conference without having a PLAN on how you will win in those playoffs once you get there. That means you can't play a 9 game schedule. Probably need a 7 game schedule in conference and you better play 3 games against tough FCS foes and maybe one D2 or a money FBS game for your OOC game. You better stop over paying our HBCU coaches and make sure the supporting staff is compensated instead of just one guy. You also better open the doors up to recruiting more than just black kids to play on our teams.

We have examples already on HBCUs who supposed to be more progressive than us Frat. You have Tenn State who has probably as big or bigger budget as any SWAC school. Been playing in the OVC for years now. You would think they would have won something or been to many playoffs. Same for the MEAC. I say this to say that nobody has developed a plan to win these games. Only developed a plan to participate. You can't win like that. You have to hire a coach who can take you to the promised land and we will never do it the way we hire.

There is no plan MEAC or SWAC wise to dominate FCS football. All folks want to do is go and say hey I tried. Fugg that. If you going to go. You better have the horses and coaching to win that thing. Not just show up and get beat 45-7 every year.

For somebody who don't break GAS you're sure doing allot of posting about something you don't GAS about.

What amuses me with posters like you is just how ignorant you are of your on worth.

JSU,GSU and SU all have had offers to move up, so your idea that they have to participate in the playoffs is simply you under valuing, under marginalizing, unappreciating your own.

But hey you don't GAS

I know frat.............But I honestly stopped caring years ago. You know that.

Since I don't fall into the NO-Playoff crew of posters here, I don't have the right to post my opinion on this, ACCORDING TO SOME POSTERS, without people going bat shat crazy with the leave and lie telling fairy-tale bullshat. I'll just read the experts opinion on this and post  's from now on.

Frat as far as America is concerned, if you ain't FBS/BCS football. We are all D2 or club. I hear the white boys say it all the time. They call FCS ball D2. Nobody cares about our level of football but us that went to those schools and like you see on here there are folks who root more for the FBS level schools in their state than their own. The white boys do it too. They rather be associated with Texas or Texas A&M than Stephen F Austin or Sam Houston. Not saying those schools have no fans. But they got a ton of alums who got grad degrees from those other schools and now root for their football programs because they don't think much about their own program even though they are winning. I saw the same thing in Ohio. Folks rather be at an Ohio State game and never set foot in a class room in Columbus than at their own alma mater.

Schools like App State want to have more cred than being FCS. They right now feel lower than East Carolina in that state even though they have won multiple FCS/AA titles. I am sure Ga Southern will feel more big time when they go to FBS so they can at least say they are on the same level as UGA and Ga Tech. LOL.

See what I mean JR?

I post............ I'm crazy.
I say I don't care............... reverse psycology 101 with the "you shole posting a lot" crap.
Then when the really senile and squirrley, then they go to the name calling and post about YOU IGNORANT and bullshat like this.

You know, typical IGGA shat.

And this fool is still putting words into my mouth. Never did I say JSU or anybody needed the playoff to move up. What I said that this dyslexic man have not seen in 3 post is A PLAYOFF RUN AND A NC ON THE RESUME WILL..........................

Let him go back and find it for himself.
And please tell me when and what conferences JSU, GSU, and SU have got INVITES to move up in Mordern times. Don't come telling me about some shat back when WC gorden was a assistant coach.

Mordern times............FBS CONFERENCE NAME, DATES, (YEAR), WITHIN LAST 20 YEARS?

Playoff runs have nothing to do with FBS invites. GaState, since you brought them up, have not even been to the playoffs AT ALL. It's all about money. When Georgia Southern is looking like Marshall at 3-9 every year, I bet they won't ever want to come back to the SoCon just to try to win a 1-AA national championship. Everything in 1-AA is smalltime/D2 to the rest of the world.

LOL. It is a good debate. Although we are all guilty of beating a dead horse on this subject. What is the real deal is our core fans could care less either. That's why none of our Presidents/Chancellors have been forced to do something. The average JSU and SU fan rather play each other 11 times a year. LOL. Only the alums and hard core fans who know football really well and follow entire FCS football is even remotely interested in those playoffs and even some of them are not. Hence no push to our administrations to change. Only banter on TSPN, which we all make up less than 1% of any of our fan bases. So our opinions are definitely in the minority.

UT-San Antonio and South Alabama also.

The only thing FAMU lacked was a conference. They had everything else. Budgets are relative but when you don't have a conference and you are a small school with no strong financial support, you must be in a conference to survive. Schools like BYU and Notre Dame have the money/sponsors/tv contracts to be independent.
