Domed Stadium for JSU

Parking will always be an issue. There will never be enough parking spaces for everyone. Even if they built a parking garage, the next student will be complaining about it's too far from Peoples Science building, etc.

What y'all sleeping on is that Gov. Bryant was pushing a new stadium for JSU during his campaign. But we all know how that changes.

Phi thats what folks complain about when actually thats a problem at all universities and colleges...There really isnt a sure way to solve it unless the university just goes staggnant and stop growing or makes a rule to wear freshman cant drive their cars on campus then u will have people complaining about that...

And JSU students need to realize that JSU is in the middle of Jackson and with the eminent domain restrictions it will be harder to build...The stadium if ever built probably wont be directly on campus anyway....Go to Ole Miss and see how bad parking is there...

TIGERDOME aka THUNDERDOME

:rolly:

If this project goes forward I would like to see Jackson State University name logo and mascot on this stadium....I do not want it to look like Dynamo Stadium in Houston no smack. Especially since we will be the primary users.

When this stadium is built, what is going to happen to memorial stadium? I mean JSU has put a lot of money into renovating it like adding the jumbo screen, and etc.

Jsu has not put one dime into the renovation of Memorial. All the renovation and upkeep is still being done by the state of Mississippi.

Hella' move. Would be nice diggs for SWAC hq as well.

P88 has only one request, make it a convertible(retractable roof). :D

Am I the only one who thinks this is a bad idea? Last I checked, our endowment was at $12M.

It's not like we have that kind of money to throw around. Why the need for a dome when the avg. temp is 70 degrees in the fall? Why the need for 50K capacity when you only avg. over 30K for two or three games out the year?

That's some serious cheese. And if you think that State of MS is gonna fund that kind of thing? C'mon now.

Dr. Meyers must've got some of that Steve Jobs' inheritence or something. I guess that explains the Apple Store. LOL.

A lot of old houses not sure if it could be purchased some people still live there. If you asked me, I would want the new stadium where the MetroCenter Mall is. Right off I-220 and US Hwy 80
What type of property is adjacent to the university and can it be purchased?

Our regional alumni representative reported this in August and stated that football and basketball would be played in the dome.

Honestly.
If the state "give" us $75,000,000, we need to go back to the original 35,000 to 40,000 seat open air stadium plan with the estimated cost of $93,000,000. Thats $100,000,000 saved and a open air stadium can be expanded years from now if there is a need to do so. You build a dome, you are trapped with no expansion option once it is outdated.

I'm not complaining but I am not a big fan of domed stadiums unless you live in 15 feet of snow country.

Also long-term pay for upkeep and renovations, nevertheless I ain't complaining if it comes to fruition.

See that's why I would be against a dome. Really by the time it would be paid for renovations would need to be done and it could possibly be outdated. The same thing is going on here in GA. Falcons want a new 1B retractable roof and want the state to pay 300 mil. Folks balking at taking the tax money away for that when they feel we have a perfectly good stadium. But in actuality, the stadium needs work and you cant expand it. I really dont want to be stuck with a raggedy ol dome ala Metro and Silver dome.

so they are going to tear down memorial down once yal move out of it

The property will be turned over to UMC and the stadium will probably be torn down. The bill giving operations to jsu was originally a 3 year deal. Phil Bryant wants to build some type of medical complex on the property. There is something similar in Houston that he has patterned plan after.

Sound like the Doomed Stadium Larry Langford proposed for Bham a few years ago. Sound like someone finally asserted themselves, and had the gonads to push their president.
:mrt: "I pity the foo" who believes otherwise because they are

I mean c'mon we're talking about Jackson, SIPPI for crying out loud.

I guess that's a good point as well. Especially when you are talking about Mississippi lol

We ain't in no position to be expecting 100s of millions of dollars by expanding or renovating a stadium. Why is it that we wanna get brand new??? All these old ass stadiums these schools play in now, and we already talking about expansion and renovations. By open air stadium standards, Memorial is a dump. But we love it. If we build a dome, 80 years from now we will love our old ass dome. Lets not compare ourselves to NFL stadiums. They have major revenue potential by getting new digs. We ain't nowhere near that.
