They called. The money was horrible lol.
LMFAO!!! Naw, Tulane isn't giving away 20K to FCS schools these days. I was told that they had the SLU game scheduled for 2014 a few years ago. Therefore, they had no intentions on opening up the new stadium with SU in 2014. My Tulane source also told me that Grambling's name was in the cards for 2013, followed by Southern. Grambling's name came up because CJ has family ties with GSU. SU's name came up because of the great numbers they have put up in the dome vs Tulane. However, Tulane alums were already pretty hot about their weak 2013 schedule. Scheduling a 1-10 or 4-7 SWAC FCS team would only make their AD, who is already in the hot seat, look like a fool. Even though Tulane has only won 4 games in the past 2 seasons, they don't want to look desperate. You already know how they seem to believe that they are on the same level as Vandy and Stanford.
Since the SWAC is the #1 way to go if your FBS program is trying to rebuild and sell a few tickets, Tulane had no choice but to offer Jackson State a FBS game. In my source's words, " Hell, MSU played them last season, and they almost won their conferance championship. They had a winning record and we know that the community will buy a ticket to see their band." I asked about why they didn't call UABP who won the SWAC title, but they said that UAPB is expected to play Arkansas State in Little Rock for 2013 and wasn't even on their FCS wish list. I think they made a good decision to go ask JSU for a game. It should be a fun trip for Jackson fans.

Trust me, they wanted to play SU bad, never said anything about opening their stadium.LMFAO!!! Naw, Tulane isn't giving away 20K to FCS schools these days. I never said that they didn't want to play SU. I just was told the reason why they didn't wasn't because of the money that would have been offered. It was because of SU's losing 2012 record and Tulane schedule rankings. Tulane is going to the Big East in 2014, therefore they don't want to schedule FCS teams with losing conferance records because it looks bad on their SoS.
If they wanted to play SU, they would've put them on the schedule, however as was stated above, they wanted and needed a quality opponent, something they knew SU was not, so they chose Mighty JSU. Case closed.
You don't understand Base, a 4-7 record for some is a winning season. You've explained it well....no need to repeat yourself.

I stopped reading at "me".:smh:
Right, so they choose a 7-5 SWAC team that got dominated by a supposed non-quality opponent? Folks, this has nothing to do with strength of schedule, if they worried about strength of schedule, then why schedule an FCS team at all?
Yes it was. The pay out was horrible. If SU is going to make up 75% of the crowd like the last time, SU needs to be paid accordingly. They even wanted to do a gate split. One of those games had 47,000 I think.I never said that they didn't want to play SU. I just was told the reason why they didn't wasn't because of the money that would have been offered. How much was the offer then? Maybe you know something I wasn't told yet because i am still awaiting on my Tulane source to tell me what JSU's check will look like. I agree with your 75% factor, however, SU is a FCS school. No FBS is going to give a gate split at home. That's just the way it is.
There was a gate split the first two games with Tulane, along with a lump sum figure up front. ULL let SU keep the money from all the tickets SU sold along with a lump sum, so your FBS theory is out the window. ULL set a stadium record that day, and the crowd was 65% JAGS. Like JROCK said, SU had problems getting paid from Tulane.. Tulane messed all over FAMU  , but that was their AD's fault. How much was the offer then? Get out of here with that crap. SU opens the season next year playing U of H who has a better football program than Tulane. So explain they wanted a FCS team with a better record again? Surely U of H who is a Big East school now, got the same memo you say is driving Tulane to play the Mighty JSU over SU. Or could it be your AD is not smart enough to pass on a bad payout. Lol.
