Chiefs player commits suicide at team facility

What don't we just do a way with Football all together since these folks these days can't handle the hits...It makes them crazy...so crazy that they don't know that they can't get a concussion take medication and then drink liquor...freaking excuse to justify his stupidity!

Prescription drugs, concussion, and alcohol abuse are a recipe for disaster.

These men up in here will never get this...It's above their brain processing level...SMH!

According to a law enforcement official close to the investigation, Jovan Belcher was out "partying" the night before he shot Kasandra Perkins. He had been with a woman in the Power and Light District, an area of bars in downtown Kansas City, according to the official who is familiar with statements made by the woman to police.

Belcher and the woman had become separated at some point and he went to her apartment in a complex in Kansas City, but she wasn't there, the official said. According to two of the woman's neighbors, Belcher was intoxicated and they let him stay in their apartment so he could get some sleep.

Belcher asked them to wake him by 6:30 a.m. so he could attend a team meeting later that morning, the official said. "I'll get fined if I don't make it," Belcher told them.

The women woke Belcher and he went to Perkins' house about 6:30 a.m. or 7 a.m. She had come home earlier after a concert and being out in the Power and Light District also.

If this shyt is true we all know what happen when the he brought his cheating ass to the house at 6:30 or 7 am in the morning...the aruguement started and his punk ass pulled a gun...I wonder if he used the famous line from GR "Gone On Now" first before blasting his daughter mother to kingdom come...SMH!

Mental illness or not, concussion-related or not, regardless the reason, this is so very sad. It's so very sad when a person thinks that ending their life will solve their problem. Suicide is bad enough, but to take another life too? I'm thankful the baby wasn't killed.

I agree this needs to addressed more among us (African Americans). It is becoming more prevalent among our race. We have to emphasize that regardless of our circumstance, situation, whatever bad things we deal with in life, they do NOT dictate us or define who/what we are.

Prayers for the families and for the little baby!

Cheating! so he was out with another woman, does not mean he was cheating. She was out, she very well could have been at the concert with a dude. Anyway, both of them should had their "uncommitted" azz at home with their child.

But the NFL is just as guilty, and eventually it's all going to come out in the wash.

NFL could face thousands of lawsuits from ex-players over brain damage from concussions

That man didn't have a mental illness...he's a murderer. That chose to kill himself after he killed the mother of his child.

I agree. That punk couldn't take going to jail for killing that chick. Folks have been playing football for over 80 years, why all of a sudden head injuries got them killing folks? :retard: Weak mofo's are what they are.

Club officials knew about the couple’s problems. The Chiefs had provided counseling and “were bending over backward†to help, Sharp said.

But Belcher told Pioli that the assistance wasn’t enough to fix their problems and now, “It was too late.â€

When another Chiefs employee arrived, Pioli told him to stay back. Meanwhile Pioli tried to persuade Belcher to lay down the weapon, Sharp said.

Belcher thanked Pioli for everything he had done for him. He asked if he and Clark Hunt would take care of his daughter.

Chiefs Head Coach Romeo Crennel and linebackers coach Gary Gibbs arrived in the parking lot and Belcher reportedly announced, “Guys, I have to do this.â€

Crennel tried to dissuade him.

“I was trying to get him to understand that life is not over,†Crennel told The Star. “He still has a chance and let’s get this worked out.’’

As Pioli and Crennel tried to reason with Belcher, the men heard police sirens closing in. Belcher then walked a few steps away with the gun still pointed at his head.

“I got to go,†Belcher reportedly said. “I can’t be here.â€

Belcher knelt behind a vehicle and made the sign of the cross across his chest before firing a single bullet into his head.

Kansas City police believe Belcher killed himself because he was distraught over what he had done to Perkins.

“He cared about her,†Sharp said. “I don’t think he could live with himself.â€

I said that earlier in this topic.
Yeah, said on Facebook that's why he killed himself. Folks talking about concussions, black men don't speak up, suicide prevention and blacks ignoring mental health issues. Nah, dude shot himself because he didn't want to go to jail.

Well its not the first murder-suicide and it will not be the last one. These young guys with money need to learn to enjoy life, their money and fame before getting into a serious relationship.

Wrap it up, you can be happy single without all that drama and a baby.

I know I am about to ruffle some feathers, but there is always two sides to a story. What role do yall feel she played in pushing this man to the edge? Did she use the baby? was it money? Something else had to occur.......

That's what some other people have said as well....

She ain't did nothing to that black bastard...if he was this great dad he would have had his black ass home while she took a break from being with the baby all the time to go to the concert...you men shut up!

I'm just saying, why we never hear of these stories when these brothas got a Becky? is it something else that sistas are doing? makes you wonder. Hmmmmmmmmm :uhoh:  :read:

Hey it's not all you men, I would have been there for my kid not out all night drunk. That is dude's fault and if ole girl was soooo bad he should have broke up with her; killing her is so unnecessary. Seems to me he wasn't very responsible and she was mad about it, probably was her first time out of the house since having the baby. I give my wifey a break from our sons all the time, no biggie. She probably could have reacted different, but being from Kansas City this is 99.99999% his fault because his dumb arse knew that EVERYONE in small Kansas City parties at the Power and Light district so it wasn't that hard for his baby mama to know he was there licking on some other chick and whether he meant anything or not by being there with her, being a KC Chief everyone probably made a big deal about it and with her having his daughter just 3 months ago and being only 22 who wouldn't expect her to go bad on him? :smh:

Why some of y'all so up in arms? Murder-suicides like this happen EVERY DAMNED DAY. Just because dude was a mid-round pick from an FCS school trying to keep his spot just draws y'alls ire? Y'all talking about his cheating ass (allegedly), what she was doing, what was his mama doing and all that. The problem is with murder-suicides/crimes of passion is that WE WILL NEVER GET A STRAIGHT ANSWER.

Then when murder-suicides happen in our own communities, we don't throw out the theories like in the Belcher case. We be like "That N-word was crazy."

I grew up around domestic abuse. I grew up around dysfuctional families. I'm not saying anything regarding was dude cheating/was she cheating or what not. All i know is their baby is S.O.L. because the dude's insurance policies are probably voided because of suicide, and I don't think he played in the league long enough to be fully vested in the pension (plus I think the suicide deal voided that too). I'm no expert, but I'm focusing on the child, not the two young, and allegedly irresponsible, dead adults.

Also, we don't know what mental/developmental issues dude had BEFORE he even played football. To me this isn't even about football. This is about some young couple that couldn't deal with adversity like "normal" adults and shit went completely haywire.

Not about to speculate or judge anyone in this situation because it is sad on so many levels. Mental illness and anger management (especially when mixed with concussions, alcohol, and drugs) are real issues that are often overlooked in our culture. The good thing is that the NFL's CBA assures that the child will be taken care financially.

"According to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, as part of the NFL's collective bargaining agreement, Zoey's guardian or her estate will receive $9,000 per month over the next four years, which amounts to $109,000 per year. In the fifth year, she'll receive $48,000. From then on, she'll be given $52,000 per year each year until she turns 18 or 23, depending on whether or not she goes to college."

Good post! Just a sad situation that happens all too much in every day life with folks that the media don't care about. I feel for both families and the little girl left behind with no Mom and Dad.
