There's something fishy going on at bamastate ...I hope they figure it out. Does anybody know why they keep firing ADs and presidents. Something is going on. The FBI should get involved. Maybe one of the ASU grads can give us some insight

Alabama State University: Silver sent emails firing Knight, questioning contracts
Firings by iPhone.

If you had that in The Next Crazy Thing to Happen in this Alabama State University Saga, you’re the winner. And you probably should’ve bought a Powerball ticket.

Yes, it seems that on-leave ASU President Joseph Silver did issue letters of termination for executive vice president John Knight and university relations director Danielle Kennedy. But he did so from his iPhone while waiting on Monday’s meeting of the executive committee of the board of trustees to begin — you know, the one in which the committee voted to place Silver on paid administrative leave for reasons still not disclosed.

The termination letters, which Silver thumbed, barely qualified as letters due to the brevity of the body, which in its entirety read: “As president of (ASU), I am terminating you as (insert title) for cause and insubordination, effective immediately.â€

Really, these letters are a step — a small step — up from being fired via text message. And yet, they're quite possibly the greatest termination letters I’ve ever seen.

Ok, this is a mess now. :(

What in the world is going on at Alabama State? If this mess keeps escalating, I'm with GR and think somebody from the outside will have to step in and do serious clean up.

I hope Alabama State will be okay after all this is over.

Look how these crabs are so happy in the bottom of the barrel around here. Sad thing is every school in this conference has a bad rep or something going on their campus being done wrong. Carpet munching send help......

even though how much i don't care too much about ASU, these developments are very alarming. i'm more concern about the students, faculty, staff and of course, accreditation(s). i hope ASU can clean it's own mess before someone else has to. if someone is going to step up, they need to step up fully cause everyone is going to get hurt at the end with this current path.

Good luck ASU

I talked to several ASU folks. They feel the problem is John Knight. He has this big ego that he can do any damn thing he wants and when he wants too. ASU has spent a lot of money on settling sexual harassment lawsuits because of him. He is the one that needs to go! Good luck to the Bee Hive!

In a report to the board of trustees on Oct. 24, he informed them that several contracts have no discernable “deliverables,â€￾ meaning ASU was getting nothing for the money it was paying.

What I would like to know, who or what was getting monies from ASU without doing any work?

Gov. Bentley is going to be at the next meeting. He ain't having this mess. ASU better clean it up. Can the gov. Bentley find out what happened to Stacy?

I hope so, too. Outsiders always have the tendency to make things a whole lot worse; don't know all the details but hopefully Alabama State has a Board of Directors or some other governing body that can and will sort this out and that the school & students won't get hurt.

And the passing of Dr Silver's mother during this season and during this trouble makes it more sad. Prayers to him & family.

At the very least, SACS will be making a visit. The Feds may not be far behind.

SACS just completed their review. Plus, no evidence of illegal activities has been presented. A new independent audit was authorize by the BOT this morning to review all university contracts. Everything is at a standstill until that audit is complete. It appears we have a simple power struggle going on and it does not look good for Dr. Silver. Hopefully, this incident will put an end to cronyism and nepotism at my beloved Alabama State University.
