I am not a baseball fan [unless the A's] are playing.

The Giant's are out for blood. 5 - 0, top of the third.

Yep. They were down 0-2 to the Reds in the LDS and won three straight on the road.

I actually got the chance to meet Mudcat Grant at JSU.

But you don't have to go back that far to find great postseason pitching performances. Pedro Martinez in Boston, Schilling and Johnson in Arizona, Roy Halladay with the Phillies. Cliff Lee with the Rangers. The 2005 White Sox starting staff.

Seriously, I have not followed baseball that much since the days [mid 70 to late 80] of McGuire, Rickey Nelson Henley [Henderson - had scholarships to play football], Jose Canseco, Tony LaRussa, Vida Blue [now Blue was a pitcher, once said he was the hardest throwing pitcher in MLB]

I remember those A's of the 80 and early 90s. Fun team. The Henderson at the top creating havoc, The Bash Brothers driving in runs and Dennis Eckersley at the end shutting it down. One of my favorite player on that team was Dave Stewart. Just a menacing figure on the hill. Great pitcher.

I've heard of Vida Blue. He pitched for the team when they won the three championships in the 70s, right? Now my grandad used to tell me about how hard JR Richard used to throw when he was in the league back in the day.

Those days were dominated by a lot of great pitchers, and a lot of great black pitchers.

Yep, there are very few black pictures [American Born] pitchers these days. I guess they all decided to switch to football and basketball.
