I noticed that in the stands...there is always a microphone over Tnsu band at the classic..where as... JSU have no mic over the band. So...this may make tnsu sound like they r overpowering the Boom...not so!!! On the field Jsu was way more powerful soundwise than tnsu.

Yeah I saw the mics...& everybody in the stadium saw them to if u know what to look for. In the front of tn su band there is a tall arse pole with a microphone on it...that big arse mic is at that location every year dude! There's another mic close to jsu band ....but it is not in front of them.

Dang, somebody "finally" with some common sense. Some folks are just sore loosers!

I guess the next comment, the female with the directional mic., was hired bu TN State. Maybe you blame the color of the turf on TN State, better yet, why not blame the poor performance of JSU Football Team on TN State.

Ooops, your bad. Sorry that you feel that way. I tell you what, go on 5th quarter.com and click on the thread of of the southern heritage classic. Read all the positive and TRUTHFUL comments that TSU had the better halftime show and was the better band in the stands. When you are done reading all 40 plus comment that were in favor of Tenn St. taking the W this year, then come back and talk with some sense.

So...tsu got some numbers this year and wanna talk..what about for the past 11yrs...jsu band have been giving y'all major loses.

Yall should be sending a thank u letter to dowell Taylor...because if he would have keep the upper clasesmen.....meaning damnn near 300 piece band..yall would have got murked. Tsu has been the size of the current Boom before...but they never could push power like this small Boom did... Yall are bigger now...but barley louder & not powerful like JSU...there is a difference!!! anyways.....tSU did very good.

What did you expect? The 5th quarter.com is a pro MEAC/Tenn. State forum. I wouldn't waste my time reading that crap!

I would print that crap and use it as doggy paper. Who wants read that biased MEAC rhetoric?

Most of the JSewers opinion concerning Football you can respect. But, whenit comes to the band, they feel as Sonic is unbeatable, perhaps they are "in their own mind" The fude between the two school go back to the mid to late 60"s. What people don't understand two band, two styles and two missions, the Aristocrats and the Average HBCU Band.

Who really cares about what happen during the past 11 years. What counts is what happen Saturday Night.
 
Before I give my opinion on the topic let me say nice job to BOTH bands. Keep up the good work!!!!

I watched the field show and 5th quarter clips and I give the drilling aspect to JSU. Both bands sounded GREAT for it to be the 2nd game of the season; however JSU was more polished as a unit then TnSU (Drilling & Sound wise). Now TnSU were more entertaining on the field and in the SWAC if you have a decent well executed drill, which TnSU did have and a nice block band you get the win. So I would give the field show to TnSU only because they were the more entertaining band as a whole on the field.

5th quarter was very interesting. The Battle of the 80’s to Mid 90’s songs!!!! Both bands showed great musicianship. As stated before JSU was the more polished band but I have to give it to TnSU. Don’t get me wrong JSU play there butts off!!!! And I do like this “New Old JSU feel” but the CUT THROAT SWAC Style was missing.

Over all I give the win to TnSU (not by that many points .5)

To BOTH Bands, GREAT JOB and Keep up the good work!!!
 
There is a clear winner in this battle! The true winners were all who had an opportunity to see and hear (online or in person) these two bands.

That being said, all bands (Specifically Band Directors) should be mindful of how important it is to not disrespect the other band by playing while the other band is playing and/or marching, I hated when we did it to other bands and I hate to see it now, such is a disservice to all (fans and band members).

The Boom halftime was no less than one would expect given their great tradition. TnSt halftime was one of the best halftime performances I have seen from them. Both band were good in the stands; however, the "007-Theme Song" played by TnSt caused me to pause and replay.

Again to both bands...Great Job
 
Judging from these clips JSU got waxed, TSU's sound was full and JSU's sound was very thin. It all goes back to what I said earlier, seems like some people in the band are not really buying in to Taylor's method in the way he wants the band to sound. Never heard Secret Garden sound that thin before...

TSU uses mikes on the field all the time. Especially when someone is going to sing. They set them up on the sideline and leave them on so the sound will go through the speakers when the band is facing the stands. Make them sound louder on the field than they are because when the get back to the stands, their volume go from 10 back down to 3 1/2.
 
JSU sounds about the same to me, the drilling and marching is awesome!

JSU, why just cadences when they change formations or march off the field, no music, seems like something is missing?

Taylor not gonna show too much before the first home game. Thats his thing when he has a couple games on the road to start the season. Comming off the field against SU in JSU's first home game, no telling what he will do. They may run back on and act a fool some more. :lol:
