Average couple spends $26,989 on wedding; many break budget

Nah BH. Not even close. She was reared upper middle class yuppie and I was reared single parent poor. I'm whoopi goldberg-flavor flav ugly and she looks like Sanaa Lathan(literally :smh: ). We didn't even look right walking around each other but I felt like I deserved someone of her caliber, physically. These days I'm not looking for 5'10" 135lbs. I look the inner solely.

That's real talk there, I think I'm in the same boat lol...

I'm trying to shake this shallowness lol...my lil boo in my avi, I'll die for lol

However, for the second, I'll admit that I was prepared to spend 30K+. Had an account with the cash sitting there with the money in it for that purpose. Some folks mentioned their whole weddings costing 4K ... 7K .... :( Heck, her engagement ring cost that much. :shame:
:

I didn't include the cost of rings in my number... My wife is ready for the upgrade in her ring. After 10 yrs, I don't mind her upgrading. I picked out the first one but she is going to pick out this one but I have already told her that she needs to take her time to find the right one because she won't be getting another one.

These are just the wedding prices.
Church, catering, dress, bridesmaids dresses, groom and groomsmen tux, etc, etc.

The ring is the mans debt while the wedding is SUPPOSED to be the brides and her families debt.

My expenses were the honeymoon, rehearal dinner, and her ring.. oh and the liquor for the reception. My wife didn't want any liquor at the wedding so she wasn't paying that.. I called my uncle like, hey unc, I need you to pick up some bottles of this, this and that.. Talk about folks getting lit.

I'm my biggest critic and I'm not too proud to say how dumb and stupid I was. Shielding and quieting my anger and disagreement on what I thought was wrong just to get along? All while feeding someone else's simplistic material desires and showmanship for the world to visibly see, all while one's stress level was rising to a point where abnormal blood pressure and irregular heartbeats were occurring? :smh: I was the poster child for stupid and dumb lol.
Don't do what I did. Lost a former roommate to that same type foolishness.

The biggest reason I didn't want a church wedding was so I could drink before the wedding in have some music playing while we were getting dressed.

I'm late on this thread. So much I could say. However with $26,989, I could take my wife on a nice vacation to Jamaica every year for a long time......either that or take her out to Ruth Chris ever week...Red Lobster 2 times a week...

Lesson to be learned...invest more in a marriage to make it last rather than a wedding and be without cash...

More power to em...people spend their loot the way they see fit...I DGAF b/c it's their choice and money. Should I marry again, I will not be having a wedding, so don't have to worry about this expense anymore. We'll take a nice honeymoon/vacation and either get married in Vegas or at the courthouse, or in the pastor's office.

Don't beat yourself up about it, ~P.

We live and we learn.

yea P mayne...but you did hit home on what you said...alot of folks wont admit to things...Every time I ask about the marriage aspect I get that gay azz answer "man bruh it's all what you make of it" lol and after that a bunch of mumbling and rambling then "man it's all what you make of it" lmao..like dude what the fuk does that mean. lmao
