I'm just waiting for the day that many of these top notch athletes will get the picture and say screw the big schools and come back home.
Don't you have establish ties somewhere first before thinking about coming back home?
At the end of the day, HBCUs and everyone else gotta step their games up to attract these kids. It's a business as we see the collegiate landscape changing with super conferences, conference realignments all in an effort to grab multimillion-dollars that go along with huge TV contracts and other agreements.
I'm on the student-athletes side here. These kids are and have been getting used for a long a time at all levels of intercollegiate athletics, and it's time it stopped.
It seems like everybody is thinking about the school, the conference, coach and fan best interest than the 18-21 year old who has little to no representation, and doesn't get fairly compensated for his contributions to the university.
Nobody really cares about these student-athletes as people or even students. They only care about them as athletes and what they can do for the school from a financial and marketing standpoint.
Dude gets kicked off the team for allegedly failing a drug test and folks crap themselves over the prospect of that kid transferring to their alma mater. Never mind he obviously has some discipline issue. Never mind it is unclear how he'll adjust to new surroundings. Never mind we don't know what safeguards will be in place to prevent future missteps.
Nobody thinks like that. Folks just envision how great he will make their secondary and how many butts he will put in the seats.
